Thank you Bogdan for your time. Adding separate images is fine. Just need to know how you placed it next to each other in a row. Have you used a 4-column layout?

What I have done is, inserted a Tab element. Entered three tabs- Volume 1, 2, 3 (more to come). In Volume 1 I entered an Image gallery element with 6 images representing six articles. I linked every image to an article (.pdf file) using Custom link.

On desktop the result looks ok (need space between the images) but when i reduce the browser window size to check how it would look on other devices, the results are different as shown – here and here

Is it because of the image size?

Recap: I need to insert space between the images. I need them to be responsive.

I thought so and after you suggested I tried. I used Image gallery and linked images to different .pdf files. Seems to do the job but I can’t find a way to add space between images. Here is a sample I picked up from the net. That’s what I need to do. Any suggestion?

Also I can see the image gallery is not responsive?!

Thanks. I think I wasn’t clear enough. I understand your point about posts having multiple categories but what I was saying is _not_ about displaying posts. I am referring to the Post Grid settings window itself, i.e., after removing one or both categories in this window (https://gyazo.com/014d81da8d4e9fc923f43df33fdf60f9) and saving it, if I again open the settings (again open this window https://gyazo.com/014d81da8d4e9fc923f43df33fdf60f9), I find that both the categories are still shown there. In other words, I am able to add categories in the Narrow Data Source settings but unable to remove any of them.

Didn’t look like a browser problem as I was able to download other things normally. So far I saw the problem was with Themeforest server as the download was extremely slow and gradually went down to 0kb speed and then disconnected giving error message. It happened a few times. It was a waste of time.

I tried after a few hours and it downloaded without any issue. So it’s all well now. Thanks.

Thank you Catalin for your comment. I understand it. However, for the record, my question was a little different. In other words, if Mayapur Voice loads in say 3 seconds with version 6.x, how much time the same website (with the same host, same visitor, same browser, and same available bandwidth) would approximately take to load with 7.x. Again, I know you can’t give an accurate answer to this but basically I was trying to figure out how fast or slow your 7.x version is if all other factors remain the same.

This is just a comment hence you don’t need to answer this unless you want to share your observation.

If that does the job, great, but the problem is, the theme only does it *before* you enter the article. Once you are in, no images or buttons for editing the article. And as you know, often we end up wanting to edit an article while reading it. I don’t see any way to do it without using the WordPress meta widget. Any trick? That’s the question. Hope this is more clear. thanks.

What about WordPress 4.5.1? Is the latest version (6.7.2) of Newspaper (including visual composer plugin) fully compatible with it? Yes I will make a back up copy before upgrading.

The other question I had asked was what is recommended – upgrade the theme first or upgrade wordpress first, in case it makes a difference? Thanks.

It worked a charm but later on I realized it also wiped out author names on posts! I do need author names to appear on posts (meaning after clicking the thumbnail and opening the post for reading). I just would like to not show them on the category pages I mentioned yesterday. See if it’s possible.

Thanks. That all worked great but I am unable to remove author’s name when browsing category posts without creating a specific page for a particular category. For example if I create a page called vedic-wisdom for a category posts called vedic-wisdom, I am able to remove author names using the code structure you provided but instead of creating a page, if I just create a link on the main menu called, say cow-protection, and make a category page for that, the code you provided doesn’t work (obviously). I am managing with it although going back and forth from back-end to front-end to see the end result does take more time. My question is, is it going to be always like that or do you have any plan in a future release to fix this so we can see the end result directly in the back-end editor? In other words, to keep it WYSIWYG even after making changes in the theme panel setting. Pl let me know. Thanks.

I read the thread with interest. As a user of Newspaper and having seen it doing great, I want to say a couple of things from my perspective:

1) What TechRanker says makes sense to me. Also, he is not defaming Newspaper
2) Chris knows well what he is talking about

It would be good for the Theme authors to add a few lines of harmless codes if that matters to some well-meaning users, who also know what they are talking about and are talking from their experience.

For a website like ours every small issue counts when it comes to ranking high on search engines. One thing I did notice when I switched to Newspaper is that the page views immediately after publishing a post dropped to almost half. It may not be the theme causing it as Google may have hard time indexing new page structure, or whatever, but yes, I did notice an initial drop. The page views go up quickly after I share them on social medias. Somehow the good news is, our Alexa global rank is soaring high organically as if we paid for it :-). I believe our new hosting, Newspaper theme, our new mobile app, SEO alertness and on top of all, our insightful content played a role in it.

So yes, Newspaper is undoubtedly an awesome theme but as everyone else in this world, TagDiv also can do better. I think they work really hard to bring their clients maximum satisfaction. Keep up the good work, friends!

Mentioning the version number might help get a more accurate answer from the authors. Most of the things they have covered in their documentation.

Since I mentioned Hummingbird, i also would like to mention that there also are some free alternatives to achieve similar results. I have not used any of them so would appreciate your opinion.

I understand it, Catalin. Thanks for the clarification. So the only thing I can now think of improving is, eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content, Leverage browser caching, Minify CSS and JavaScript.

Just to get your opinion- WPMUDEV has released what they call Hummingbird plugin, which supposedly takes care of this stuff. Do you think it’s safe to use it with this theme?

I saw significant change in the google page speed insight after I figured out that my Gzip compression was not turned on although a test showed it was on. As soon as I turned it on, the speed went up significantly, to 80+. But on mobile sites it’s still hovering around 50.

I have noted that turning off the Unique articles feature helps the speed go up (makes sense to me) but it’s an important feature for us.

My question is, if I turn off Unique articles and instead use the Offset post feature, will it help increase the page speed or will it be the same if I apply it throughout the page? In other words, my question is, if by using the Offset feature instead of Unique articles, if the visible result on the homepage is as good as it would be using the Unique articles, will it make any improvement in the page loading time?
