The issue was that the full-sized images were being loaded and resized on the page rather than that they were displaying full-sized. My fault – poor communication.

*The images on Latest Articles was my also fault. I had permission issues on my server and Newspaper was serving the full-sized images because it couldn’t reach the thumbnails.

*The instagram issue is real, however. Newspaper is loading (but not displaying) a 640×640 pixel image and displaying it as 171×171 pixels.

I have attached the screenshots you requested.

Note that I have ads activated in only four Newspaper provided positions, Header Ad, Sidebar Ad, Article Inline Ad, and Footer Top. Every legitimate position has the Ad Title, “Advertisement.”

I have explicitly set all other ad positions to be turned off on all four platforms.

I’m still seeing rogue ads intermittently in either the sidebar widget “Adoptable Pet Of The Week” and “Featured Happenings” but never both at the same time.

There are rogue ads in the homepage “Most Recent Posts” section intermittently.

There are rogue ads either in the sub-footer or below the sub-footer but never both at the same time. This one is the only one that is not intermittent and shows on every page view. Hopefully, it can be helpful for diagnosis.

Reminder that I have no other plugins that serve ads. I’d be glad to grant you access to the site if you need it.

I have read this page
Custom Post Type Support and understand about copying taxonomy.php to taxonomy-custom-type-name.php but that doesn’t seem to replicate all the functionality of the main category pages.

Thanks for your help. This is a great product, and I have read all the docs. Sometimes I need help connecting the dots between what I’ve read.

Thanks, Simion. I was able to solve this problem by making Bars & Restaurants the top-level category in the custom taxonomy and everything else subordinate to it.

You may close this ticket. I found the problem. It was a plugin conflict.

As you can see in the screenshot attached to the initial post, I’m trying to figure out how to set the Newspaper Theme Panel tabs text back to white so they are visible.

I am not looking for a setting that affects the public site but a setting that affects the Newspaper theme panel.

These are the tabs on the Theme Panel with the text in question:
