I am not using HTML in a sidebar name. I am just using the same name as the title of the sidebar.

I have been using WordPress for many years & never encountered a similar problem with any other theme.

This is a bug in the Newsmag theme & should be documented or better still fixed.

I am disappointed as I just purchased Newsmag. The theme is great. The Quality Control on the update is #$%^&
I got an email that there is a new version so downloaded the update from Themeforest. Then my problems started.

First off the documented updated process via the WordPress dashboard fails with with an error that the directory already exists. So I use ftp & upload & unzip & get an error “Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘[‘, expecting ‘)’ in …../wp-content/themes/Newsmag/includes/wp_booster/td_menu.php on line 191”
So then I remove the whole Newsmag directory tree & install via the WordPress dashboard but still get the same damn errors. So I have to once again remove the whole Newsmag directory tree & reinstall the version of the theme that I originally purchased from Themeforest. So now all is working again but I haven’t got the update installed & I have wasted an hour or two of my time.

I recently purchased the Newsmag theme & just received an email about an update which I downloaded from Themeforest but I have the same problem.

Initially I followed the documentation regarding installing but the update failed with a message about the directory already existing. So I used ftp to upload the new version. Then gI ot the “Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘[‘, expecting…” error which broke the site. So I deleted the whole Newsmag directory tree reverted to default theme then installed the new version of the theme downloaded direct from Themeforest & installed & activated that but I still get this error.

I have had to revert to the the version that I downloaded from Themeforest when I purchased the theme last week.

It looks like your update is broken. I don’t expect to have to edit code to get this working. Please update the download on Themeforest to a file that will install & work correctly
