I am not sure what you mean now. As I said earlier, I managed to get it to work by using categories for pages – with the aid of a plugin. However, as you already can loop pages from within the theme (and other custom post types for instance) – it really should be other options there as well, other than category or tag to sort them out by. For instance by using “children of” as a mechanism.
It would be easier if you could attach images here. But I managed to get this working through a plugin that gave me the option of adding categories to pages. What I wanted was to instead of looping posts, I wanted to loop pages with pagination.
When you are on a page, and choose the template “Pagebuilder + latest articles + pagination” – you also get the block “Homepage latest articles” – it has three tabs: General, Post loop setings and Unique articles. Well, under “Post loops settings” you get a lot of options and filters, one of these is the option to use different kind of post types. In my case, I wanted to use pages, but I could not figure out how to for instance use only pages that where children of another page – so it just looped all pages.
But it feels like a “hack” to have to use categories for pages, in order to specify what pages I want in a loop, it would be much better if it also was a filter based on “Children of ID” for instance.
The site I am talking about is ondogbreeds.com – On the homepage I loop both pages and posts in the “Homepage latest articles” section, in the top grid I loop only posts. In the block below the top grid, I loop only pages from certain categories.
In the sub-pages like this one ondogbreeds.com/dog-breeds/a-c/ I then loop only pages with the category “a-c” and it’s working.
But if there is another way, other than adding categories to pages, in order too loop specific pages I would be very much interested. As I said, it just feels like a hack if you need an extra plugin to do it. Also, what if that plugin stops working at some point.
Ok, thanks. Will test out single post of slider.
That looks beautiful! Thanks for answering, will that change be deleted if/when updating the theme? You should really consider doing this as a template for the next update. Thanks for answering.
Actually I just found out it has nothing to do with updates… There is an updating waiting. For some reasons the theme settings have gone all by themself. Common problem? This is the second site this has happened to.
Yeah, it was the theme panel. Logos, colors etc that are gone.
Am I really the only one with this problem? This has happened on two different sites in the past. I haven’t fixed the site above, in case you want to have a look at it and understand what is happening though. But I have to fix it eventually… I would like to know what is going on and if this is a problem I can’t get rid of.
I don’t know. But one of them was unactivated, I just took one random serial from Themeforest and used that for activating, so I guess I was lucky. They should all be activated now.
Not so easy 🙂 They are all about a year old or so. Can’t really tell the difference. Is it possible to “unactivate” the theme on all three sites and activate them again?
I can easily make this. However, I try not to mess too much with a theme if I don’t need to, because of upgrades and such. Child them might work, but I saw so many had problems even then. Will take a look at the plugin 🙂
Doesnt seem to work on featured images?
Great! I was looking for something like this myself!
Also. What about having a page resemble a “category” page, but instead of listing posts from a category, the page lists subpages of the page you are on? Is that possible?
Ah then. Great. I thought it also applied to front-end pictures. But if using a youtube video and video posts it generates an image all by itself, however, that image is way smaller than the block?
Ok? I thought the cropping feature also worked on the front end? Ie newspage? If turning of cropping, the front-page image (745x483px) will still work as they should? Same size etc?
http://helsesenteret.com – I have turned on cropping now and all work as expected, except I can’t have vertical images on single posts – because they are being cropped too…
Oh, I know the images are too small for the big front picture, that’s not the problem. If I turn on cropping it all works.
However: What I wan’t is to have it on as standard but on some posts I want to NOT use the crop feature. Only one some posts.
Standard cropping is fine, it will work on the front page and all, I can work with that. But on some posts I wan’t to have vertical images, not cropped.
1. Turn on cropping – everything looks ok, but on single posts, these images are also cropped. Not what I wan’t.
2. Turn off cropping – the single pages work as expected – even vertical ones. However, doesn’t look pretty on the front page.
3. This also applies to youtube.com links that automatically generates featured images. They also look to small on the front page (the big image)
I might experience the same thing. But the focus keyword is still therethough. Just that that Yoast SEO cannot find it. It also sayd “No H2 tag” and much more on a single post sometimes, even though it is still there. Haven’t experienced that with other themes.
