Thank you Alin, I just sent you the credentials of the staging site. I have had this very same situation happen at multiple Newspaper sites I maintain, so hopefully you guys can figure it out.

for the moment I disabled my child theme and that immediately fixed the problem

I updated to 9.7.3 and now cannot make any changes to the theme - reply

Hi Robert, I seem to have similar issues after upgrading 9.7.2 to 9.7.3.
My PHP.ini entries are as follows:
upload_max_filesize = 256M
post_max_size = 32M
max_input_vars = 5000
Yet it is still not working. Can you tell me what you changed your values to please?

Yes I have cleared the cache.
