Christopher is a long time WordPress user. Anything else you need to know is private ;-) I *do not* work for TagDiv, but I've been using their themes since late 2013.

Been there 😉

categories in WordPress show all content assigned to that category; so if you don’t want or do want a post in a category simply select/deselect on the actual post.

So, for something about books on the books category page, it must actually be selected to the books category.

View the WordPress codex docs on wordpress.org under ‘bulk edit’ for posts screen — works very well.

I just did this after migrating our old custom CMS into WordPress, and had some random items (about 500 out of 12,000) not assigned to a user/author, so I had to select them, click the bulk edit, hit apply, go to the drop downs, choose new author, click apply. Done.

Speed it up!

Test one of your posts with GTmetrix.com to see all the stuff you need to fix.

Yes, if you just hit return it will do a complete search.
Welcome to WordPress search 🙂

There are some nice plugins you can use to change the way search works.
Or, switch to Google CSE.

(( I don’t work here; if that didn’t help in any way, my apologies. 🙂 ))

Login via FTP and disable all plugins by changing plugins directory to xplugins;
delete all themes except the default ones.

This will allow you to login.

Once logged in, go to appearance, themes and change to “twenty-sixteen.”

Rename xplugins back to plugins; Then turn back on only those known plugins which are good.

Then properly install the NP theme, plugins, and then activate again.

Theme does not control account login in any way for the admin user.

See the sticky post at top of the forum.
The included version is bundled version and has no update/paid license.

The plugin is updated when the theme is updated only, as it’s bundled with the theme, not separate license.

Simply ignore the nag screen asking you to pay or activate the full version. As already noted!

You would need to either
a) switch to desktop view in Chrome mobile browser

b) create a javascript switch button to load the desktop CSS over mobile version — you’d have to hire somebody to make that for you, if you don’t know what that means

Theme does not support “view switch” — as it’s setup to “look for mobile” device, based on the device sending notice that it’s mobile, then serve the mobile version. This is why Chrome and some other mobile browswers let you send the notice it’s pretending to be a desktop device to serve that layout instead.

Not sure that helps – just some background.

For example on the iphone there is a button “request desktop version” of site built-in.

You launch VisualComposer from a “page” you’re building and not from the VC settings page. You can ignore the “buy me” nag screen as not applicable with the bundle version – just ignore it ! 🙂

It’s not; WordPress uses Gravatars for default author pix. So each user must have a Gravatar picture setup, usually keyed to their email address.

Optionally you can install a plugin to load local images using the default WP hooks.

We use “Simple Local Avatars” on all our sites; take a look at that 🙂

Dunno. Good to check the support forum for the IA plugin to see what other people are running into.

simchris

You get new version of the plugin when it’s been tested compatible with both WordPress and t heme, and then when the next version of theme is updated.

To get notified, just check the box on your theme downloads page on ThemeForest.

Just because a new version is out doesn’t mean you have to install it “right now.” First versions of new stuff can often have bugs that break your site or even have exploits — it has happened before. So no need to “rush” to get a new version just because it’s there.

Always good to check the support forums for the plugin for known issues when new version comes out.

Which plugin ?

simchris

Note that like most themes with a ‘featured image’ turned on, this image lives “outside” the post meta since not placed into the actual post meta.

On our news portals, we turn off inserting featured image in post, and then actually place the image into the post “inline” so that it is part of the actual post meta; this is only way to have media appear in things like AMP, FB Instant Articles, etc. — unless you have custom feed setup.

So, best to turn off the post option for featured images, and then simply “place” the image into the post (we do it after first paragraph).

Try it 🙂

Do you actually have open graph tags added to your site?

You need to use a plugin like Yoast SEO or similar to actually add the needed OG tags for FB to see them!

I think the ad system suopports either normal static ads, or AdSense ads from Google and not other types of networks or the like.

Might be better to
a) install Ad-Rotate
b) add custom ads to that as ad units
c) put the ad unit shortcodes into your templates or sidebar widgets where you want to display ads

(( I don’t work here. ))

Probably need to hire a developer to help you.

Newsmag has no mobile theme.

For Newspaper, you can find it in the “all files” download from your ThemeForest account.

Download the ‘all files’ folder, unzip it, and you will find all the additional files and folders in addition to the main theme zip. Good idea to keep this for reference and future use, explore the info, etc.

Clear cache and all that stuffin’ again 🙂

Might also be a bad plugin that isn’t mobile friendly … so presumably you’ve also tried disabling plugins to see what might cause that?

What is the actual jquery error ?

simchris
tagDiv Member

You might try my trick in my long winded optimization thread toward the end to load jquery via Google CDN vs local copy. We do that on our newsmag sites.

I had a function for functions.php to unhook local copy and load the CDN copy of jquery.

Mobile is kinda funky, but not having any issues with our sites.

This also presumes you disabled the stupid lazy loading “effect” on your site. ?

simchris

Try disabling your cache plugin.

Also make sure you updated WP memory limit in the wp-config.php file.

Depending on server setup, make sure you set php memory limit to 1G (some systems prefer 1G vs 1000M); frankly 768M is plenty.

Consider moving from Visual Composer to the TD Composer beta (we did on all our news portals running Newsmag 3x).

Disable “related posts” “more from author” and “flyout” bottom right stuff. Try to use just ONE post module image size type in sidebar, vs multiple. Try only having ONE advert in side bar.

Seriously, all this stuff helps!

Well… if the old content is not actually there, and your dbase is optimized, and the info shows up on a mobile device, perhaps problem with mobile device cache not cleared.

It’s technically impossible for a site to show defunct content if no longer in dbase as dynamic site, unless it’s been “cached” someplace, like opcache, mod_pagespeed, CDN, Varnish, cache plugin, etc.

Obviously if you load up an old version of site layout, with, say content in old categories, no longer updated, that old content would show up again.

Do you have same issue switching to a default theme, view on mobile device? Then, reactivate this theme, visit again on mobile device?

Have you done normal house keeping like
a) optimize dbase to clear transients, such as with wp-optimize
b) resave permalinks to clear temp WP redirect cache
c) checked your site via FTP to see if you still have a caching folder with cached files
d) checked your htaccess file to see if you have links to cached files or cache redirects leftover from caching system?

All that can possibly be culprit.

simchris
tagDiv Member

Server caching issue, sounds like.
Theme does not control content, only layouts.

simchris
tagDiv Member

Regardless. Check the above options. Themes which use Visual Composer need much more RAM to function at all.
