I think I figured it out…

I used the “Update the theme via WordPress” option, and then ran the update script. However, the layout still is not what it used to be:

I cannot run the script after installing Newspaper if I don’t know where I can find the script. 🙂

I have downloaded the themeforest-5489609-newspaper.zip file, which contains the latest version of the theme.

Is there a “run the script now” prompt (or similar) during the installation at some point, or how do I actually run the script?

When I previously installed the theme, I don’t remember seeing a prompt to run a script.

The texts on the site’s front page are the same that now, strangely, appear in Visual Composer’s “Backend Editor” mode!

Note that I also updated Visual Editor as instructed.

Ability to raise older posts, in one way or another, back to the front page is a very important function. I hope you will implement it.

One obvious way is to republish old artiles, but that of course loses all the comments and likes for the articles.

I still haven’t upgraded the theme – but I just found some example page created with version 4 that contains exactly what I need, complete with the Previous (“Edelliset”) and Next (“Seuraavat”) texts with the appropriate arrows. Please have a look:

However, I cannot figure out how that section was created! Could you please tell me what block is in use in that picture and what pagination options I should choose to get that functionality.

(I’m asking because, for some reason, I cannot locate that section in the page editor to check for myself.)

It works!

I then tried removing the date field by commenting

$buffy .= $this->get_date();

However, the end result was that there was a hyphen after the author’s name, eg:

Is it somehow possible to also get rid of the “-” at the end?

I can live with the date, but I’d rather just have the category name followed by the author.

I was able to get the texts shown alright, but I felt that the following would have looked better (I’ll use English for clarity in the example — “Earlier” means earlier blog posts and “Later” means later blog posts):

However, the result was always that the “<” and “>” symbols ended up on a separate line, like this:

And that didn’t look good. Adjusting the font size in CSS didn’t help. I returned the original, untouched php files to the server for now. However, if you could help me have the above text + symbol combination work, that would most likely be the optimal solution. 🙂

I only now began to work on this.

Alas, I cannot find a file named td_block.php in our folder structure. In your screencast it is located in a folder named wp_booster, but there is no such folder on our server, and I don’t find the php file in any of our folders.

We switched to Block 8 to avoid the smaller thumbs, and also decided that the Next/Previous pagination works best for us.

However, I wonder if all visitors notice the ” > ” symbol and/or understand that clicking it makes the next set of blog posts visible.

The symbol (encircled in red) may be a bit inconspicuous, i.e. not very noticeable. I wonder if the texts “Seuraava” (Finnish for “Next”) and “Edellinen” (Finnish for “Previous”) could somehow be made to accompany the symbols ” > ” and ” < “, respectively.

Great advice, Alin! I was confused about the concept of “page” in this context, and your screencast clarified it for me.

I have now set Pagination to “Infinite load”, and

“Infinite load show ‘Load more’ after x pages:”

to 4. There is, consequently, a “Load more” button — although after the *5th* page (which is OK) in the “Kaleidoskooppi” section:

Two related things:

1) After all the articles have been loaded, the “Load more” button (=”Lisää artikkeleita”) continues to be clickable, suggesting to visitors that there are more articles to load, although there aren’t.

2) As the number of articles in this section keeps increasing, it would actually be better to show the articles in groups with a set number of articles (and I talk about the front page, at http://vastavalkea.fi/ ) so that the “next” group replaces the group currently shown/loaded on the front page, and vice versa. Here the other Pagination options (“Next/Previous Ajax”, “Load more button”) seem to come into play.

Yes it does, but we’d like it to appear after 10. But if that is set, the thumbnails are smaller after the first two. But I guess switching to Block 8 will solve that.

Ah – sorry for the confusion. I was wondering how to limit the number of the blog thumbnails shown on the *main page* at

and not the number of blog links on the category page at http://vastavalkea.fi/category/blogit/

We haven’t been able to have the “Load more” button to appear appropriately after a specified number of blog links on the main page without the thumbnail size change issue. I ended up removing the oldest blog posts from the blog kategory (“Kaleidoskooppi”) so that not too many would be listed on the main page.

I’ll try using block 8 first to see if that helps us forward by solving the thumbnail issue…

Hi Alin,

There are currently something like 15 blog posts, so it’s not the case that there are no articles to show after the infinite load is over.

I have limited the post to 2 precisely to avoid showing articles using small thumbs and titles – we would like all articles to be shown with large thumbs (as with the first two). That is the main problem. Is there a way to have every post shown with large thumbs and complete texts?

Thanks – I installed the plugin. The “Add Open Graph metadata” option was selected by default.

When I then entered the troublesome article’s web address in the Facebook debugger, the following cryptic error message is shown:

As we can see, the values that the debugger gives are identical. What could that mean?

The debugger also telle me “Based on included and inferred properties, the above preview is what users will see when they share this url”, and one of the images in the articles is shown. Not, however, the featured image.

Ok, I found the Add Element view as follows:

Open page editing view -> click Backend editor -> click “Plus” sign

The “Like” button is now in place, but yes, it does look a bit unesthetic, especially right next to a menu item.

And the accompanying text (“Be the first of your friends to like this”) should preferably be in Finnish.
