We stopped updating the theme over a year ago because it requires to update the PHP version from our 7.4 to 8.3. We could update the PHP, but when we did try to update it broke everything. All the pages got messed up and we had to roll back the site. So it either broke the WPbakery page builder or the Tag DIV. We were afraid to update again as it took hours to roll back the site. We are not sure if you started using your own builder or what, but this is a very large site and we did not want to lose everything. Not sure why now the mobile menu will not work – but it does not open. We would like to either find a way to update the site with the existing theme but NOT break everything we have; Or we will have to abandon this theme. Any suggestions? Our site is located at https://brahmanjournal.com/ Maybe we did something wrong when we updated the site. If you can help us we would appreciate it. If we need to pay for a new support I can do that, we have had this theme a long time and would like to keep it if possible.
Hi,
No problem. I can provide WPBakery 8.7.3 so you don’t have to wait until we include it in the next theme update. It will work fine with the theme. You just have to deactivate and delete the version you are using now, and install the new one.
I can provide the plugin by email, please send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and include a link to this forum topic in the email, so I know what it’s about.
Thank you!
Hello tagDiv Support,
I recently purchased a new Regular License for Newsmag and downloaded the current full package directly from ThemeForest.
The package is Newsmag 5.4.3.6, and the bundled file:
Newsmag-tf/plugins/js_composer.zip
contains WPBakery Page Builder 8.7.2.
Our website currently uses WPBakery 6.13.0, and the homepage depends directly on WPBakery shortcodes. We need to update it securely without breaking compatibility with Newsmag, tagDiv Composer, or the existing homepage layout.
WPBakery’s official changelog lists version 8.7.3 with an additional security-related fix involving capability and nonce verification for frontend preview requests.
Could you please confirm:
1. Whether you can provide a Newsmag-tested WPBakery 8.7.3 package;
2. Whether WPBakery 8.7.3 is officially compatible with Newsmag 5.4.3.6 and may be installed manually;
3. Or whether you recommend installing the bundled WPBakery 8.7.2 version while waiting for a future Newsmag update.
Please also confirm whether an updated ThemeForest package is planned.
Thank you.
Hi,
Thank you for your previous guidance.
I’m following up because I already completed the recommended update process, but the issue still persists.
What has already been done:
WordPress was updated.
The Newspaper theme was updated from the old version 7 to the current version 12.
WPBakery / Visual Composer was updated.
The bundled Newspaper/tagDiv plugins were reviewed and updated.
The site files and database were backed up before making changes.
PHP/server compatibility was also reviewed.
After completing those updates, the main issue remains:
The frontend still displays the WPBakery / Visual Composer shortcodes as plain text instead of rendering the page content properly.
For example, the page still shows code like:
[vc_row][vc_column]…[/vc_column][/vc_row]
Also, when activating tagDiv Composer, the website shows an error, so the builder functionality is still not working correctly.
At this point, since the recommended update process has already been completed, could you please help us investigate the remaining issue directly?
It seems that one of these problems may still be happening:
WPBakery shortcodes are not being parsed correctly.
tagDiv Composer is failing during activation.
A required Newspaper/tagDiv component is missing or corrupted.
The old page content from Newspaper 7 / WPBakery is not being processed correctly after the migration.
The page content may need to be repaired, but we need confirmation before rebuilding anything.
For security reasons, I will not post credentials publicly here. I can send fresh temporary WordPress admin and cPanel access privately through email or the proper support channel.
Could you please confirm where I should send the access details so you can review the activation error and shortcode rendering issue?
Thank you.
Best regards,
Adalberto Larios
this website is built so differently than any other wordpress template ive used. I took the advice to remove “SVG” which ive never had to do before, but now its pulling in some title information from another area and not showing the logo. Very frustrating…how come it’s built with all of these extra loops? Any way to change it? Don’t love this editor either – elementor or wpbakery would be so much easier.
Hi,
There’s much to discuss here.
Did you maybe update wordpress before all these issues happened? I see the website uses wordpress 7, which is the latest version released recently. And it uses Newspaper 7, which from 10 years ago. Also WPBakery 5, which is from 10 years ago.
I suggest updating everything, because it will have to be done eventually. Then the remaining problems can be investigated.
We still provide WPBakery in the theme package -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-visual-composer-plugin/
WPBakery does not require a license, it has always been provided by us as a bundled plugin according to the guide -> https://help.market.envato.com/hc/en-us/articles/213762463-Bundled-Plugins
So a bundled plugin doesn’t require activation -> https://prnt.sc/nAR4whjbEtY5
If a page is displaying code, it usually means that either the plugin that renders that code is not active, or the page is broken. If the WPBakery plugin is active and there is still code, then the page must be broken. Updating the theme will not fix a broken page. The code from the page must be reviewed to see why it is broken. Or, if a recent modification broke the page perhaps and the page worked fine before, then an older revision can be restored -> https://prnt.sc/JgbjlyL-i6W2
Worst case scenario, the page must be rebuilt, which takes a few minutes, but not necessary if it can be fixed.
My suggestion is to update everything first. Then I will investigate any remaining issues. You can send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide admin login for the website so I can investigate. I’ll help as much as I can.
Let me know.
Thank you!
Hello,
We are currently working on the website:
https://www.sostenible.com.mx/
We are having an issue with the page editor / builder. The pages are no longer editable through the builder, and on the frontend the content is being displayed as raw Visual Composer / WPBakery shortcodes instead of being rendered properly.
For example, the homepage is showing content like:
[vc_row][vc_column][td_block_ad_box spot_id="custom_ad_2"]…
[td_block_2 custom_title="ACTIVIDADES PRIMARIAS"]…
[/vc_column][/vc_row]
The site was originally running an older version of the Newspaper theme, version 7. Everything was working correctly before, but the issue suddenly started. We then migrated/updated the theme to version 12, expecting the problem to be resolved, but the issue still persists.
Based on what we are seeing, it looks like the problem may be related to Visual Composer / WPBakery Page Builder, because the builder is not loading correctly and it appears to be asking for a license or activation. Since the content depends heavily on Visual Composer / WPBakery shortcodes, the site is currently unable to render the pages correctly.
Could you please help us review the following?
Confirm if the bundled Visual Composer / WPBakery plugin included with the Newspaper theme is active and compatible with version 12.
Check if the plugin requires a separate license or if it should be activated through the theme package.
Verify why the shortcodes are being printed as plain text instead of being parsed/rendered.
Confirm if there is a missing plugin, corrupted builder installation, or compatibility issue after the migration from Newspaper v7 to v12.
Let us know the recommended steps to restore the page builder functionality without losing the existing page content.
The main issue is that the website content is still stored using Visual Composer / WPBakery shortcodes, but the builder is no longer processing them correctly.
Thank you.
Best regards,
Adalberto Larios
No where to enter the text. Tried on Chrome and Firefox…
Also, when going into edit mode, I am now presented with this error.
I’m assuming it’s related to WPBakery.

I see it. There is a problem with the width of the columns. While the rows in the composer limit the available space for regular posts built built with the wordpress editors, WPBakery has its own rows and design. So there are rows inside rows, each with their own layout and design.
Thankfully it’s not that much of a problem and can be fixed with some CSS. Copy the code from here -> https://pastebin.com/h5NFKKyL and add it in the theme Live CSS -> https://prnt.sc/FAacVlMRdULy Then clear the siteground cache and check the posts again. They should display properly like this https://prnt.sc/t-Ec67Uk6cY4 Let me know if that works.
If there are other issues someplace else, let me know where.
Let me know.
Thank you!
We might have emailed about this before. There are a few pages done in WPBakery, but not too much that I was planning on rebuilding them anyway. The main issue with one category of posts that was done in WPBakery (everything else was just in classic editor). You can see the difference between the live site and the staging site.
Biggest issue I see unless I’m losing it is with the tags.

That depends on how you used WPBakery on the website before. Did you use it for posts perhaps, or just for pages? If for example you just used it for a few pages, then those pages can simply be recreated with the composer. But if it was used on a lot of pages, and maybe even posts, then it must remain active and I’ll start looking for solutions.
Let me know.
Thank you!
Thanks Simion. That did it. How would you advise me making the move from WPBakery to Newspaper if I have to keep builder deactivated?
(I think I may have just answered this myself…)
Hi,
No problem, we’re here to help.
That’s right. If you want to import something from the cloud library inside a page, you can use the load template option or the cloud button up top https://prnt.sc/Y6GoxmR0vA2L
Pressing them should open the import window like this https://prnt.sc/3jez0fGCOtp7 Then you select what you want to import and confirm. But if these steps aren’t working correctly, then it means there’s a problem.
From what I see you have the WPBakery plugin active. And I believe there is a bug because of that, which affects the composer. Could you make a test and deactivate the WPBakery plugin and try again?
Did you use WPBakery before for the website? If not, I suggest removing it. The theme doesn’t require it in any way.
Let me know.
Thank you!
On my Newspaper theme, I still use WPBakery Page Builder. I have have created a simple row , 2 columns, each with a single image in it – image 1 and 2. I have duplicated that row, now with images 3 and 4. All is fine on desktop and tablet, but on mobile the images are 1, 3, 2, 4. How can I get them back in the right order?
Hello, Issue:
WPBakery save_post hook fired during a Composer save
Blocks visible but not clickable/draggable in Composer editor
All other template types work fine – reloading the template and others had same result it looks like Base64 code
Frontend renders correctly
I can’t seem to solve it with mySQL
Can I get some assistance?
Thank You
Hi,
Please log in to your Themeforest account and download the theme with all files (full package), unzip it, and inside it, under: Newspaper-tf/code/other_plugins/js_composer.zip will be the last version of WP Bakery provided with that theme package.
Thank you!
Hi, I need to update che WP Composer on my newspaper theme. I followe this tutorial https://forum.tagdiv.com/update-the-visual-composer-plugin-wpbakery/ but inside the last theme packages there is no js_composer.zip and without that i cannot update php version and use my site
Hi, I have had a website (thinkbeef.ca) running Newspaper theme for almost 10 years. It was originally created using WP Bakery plugin, and I continue use that as my page maker.
I have moved 29 of the pages over to an all new website with the latest version of Newspaper 12.7.5. I have not made the website live, because two big things are not right:
1. I now have no control over the header theme – that has gone to your tagDiv Composer which I don’t use. How can I get the website logo at the top of the HOME page and globaly? Right now there is just the text “Thinkveal” and sub head “Discover the art of publishing” at the top.
2. I have also lost Article Display View? On a Category page all the entries have Author, date, tag and title. I only want the version with TITLE ONLY. How can I get that back?
Here is my info:
Lori Kennedy
lori.kennedy@sympatico.ca
Purchase code:
URL: thinkveal.ca (is not live yet)
Thanks Bogdon I look forward to hearing back,
Regards,
Lori
Hi,
If you want to use tagDiv Composer and cloud templates, you need to install the plugin tagDiv Shop – https://forum.tagdiv.com/tagdiv-shop/
In case you are using the Bakery, you should use the WooCommerce shortcodes, not the cloud templates, because there can be problems when those 2 are used.
Thank you!
Hello,
I would like to integrate a WooCommerce shop into my website, which is running on Newspaper 12 with WP Bakery Pag Builder. I would like to use a shop template for the woocommerce shop. What is the best way to do this?
Can I use a template from the TagDiv Cloud Library, or can I use any shop template from the WooCommerce Marketplace? Or would that conflict with the existing Newspaper/WP Bakery installation?
Also, which tool would I use to edit and customize the shop templatesa after installation?
Thank you very much and best regards
Sönke
Hi,
I just tested on my install and it seems to be working correctly – https://prnt.sc/Q5PTCqjKhpM2. Could you please do a test using only the theme, theme plugins, and the WP Bakery? Also, if you have a child theme, set the main theme during the tests.
Thank you!
As of the latest theme update, critical functionality of the plug-in WPBakery Page Builder is broken. We have used this builder since we first purchased the Newspaper TagDiv theme, before the TagDiv builder was as robust as it is now.
It is no longer working with the theme.
Specifically, the tabbed index/content slider and toggling content on a page.
We have two prominent places we use this functionality. One is on the about us page.
https://nondoc.com/about-nondoc/
We use the tab content for our staff and later on the page for board members.
The other is on a history page were we allowed to toggle through different years.
https://nondoc.com/history-of-the-oklahoma-legislature/
It appears that the theme is overriding the JavaScript and style sheets, not allowing the page functionality to properly load.
Hi,
The problem you have is related to the WPBakery, which is interfering with the cloud templates and is changing the rows to full width. So, in case you want to use cloud templates, you should disable the WPBakery plugin.
Thank you!
Hi,
WPBakery is a bundled plugin provided with the theme for older users who created pages using it. Some theme users have also created articles with this builder. However, it is not required, as the theme has its own builder, tagDiv Composer, which handles the theme layout.
If WPBakery is updated to the latest version, it should work with PHP 8+. We even recommend using PHP 8.3 for both the theme and WordPress.
Thank you!
Hi, I tried installing PHP version 8.1, but the site is having issues with the WPBakery Page Builder plugin.
Here the details:
WordPress 6.4.2
Newspaper Theme 12.7.3
tagDiv Composer 5.4.2
PHP 7.4 works
PHP 8.1 → E_COMPILE_ERROR error in js_composer
WPBakery is required for the theme?
Thanks.
