All solved! The conflict was with the w3 cache, if someone has the same issue, go to the documentation! 😉

The Speed Booster Pack somehow broke the js on the site, now the search and the affix are not working! I´d excluded those files mentioned above! But most likely I did touch something that I shouldn’t.
Also had trouble with css, but that I fixed it. With js I´m lost, wherever I did, didn’t solve the problem. Which files should I upload from the backup to fix it?

HI Lucian,

I deactivated all the plugins and re-added the plugin but it is still like that. The settings are same and I deactivated W3 Total Cache as well but didn’t worked. I tested on my localhost and it worked with the same theme. It would be really appreciated if you could take a look at it. I will send you the login info through email.

(2) If I understand you right: A child theme doesn’t store menu info (as in Appearance -> Menus); that’s in the MySQL database. I expect custom sidebars are the same but I’m not sure. I would probably just use a backup plugin if you have trouble finding your way around your database. If someone else has an easy way to backup just those settings, please share. :p

(3) A quick fix is to add this custom CSS in the theme panel:

.td_mod2 .meta-info {
  display: none;
}

.td_mod2 {
  margin-bottom: 10px;
}

Change the 10px to whatever spacing you want — default is around 40px.

(5) Align left with this custom CSS:

.td-social-wrap {
  float: left;
}

For the other edits, you’d have to extensively edit td_social.php and td_social_icons.php, if those files can even be replaced in a child theme. You might want to just look at a plugin instead.

First make BACKUP of your dbase, and any special files you’ve modified; turn off all caching, clear caches, clear cache on CDN if using one; turn off mod_pagespeed if using it.

1) switch to main theme, NOT the child theme if using one
2) turn off all plugins while doing update
upload theme files via FTP
3) turn on ONLY the plugins included with theme after upgrade of both theme and plugins
4) if sidebars disappear you can usually just go to appearance and resave them and then back
5) turn on any “extra” plugins

I tried regenerating thumbnails, no luck. Unfortunately, I don’t know anything about CDN cache that has been mentioned somewhere before.

Note with twitter that once they cache a certain page, they don’t recache it once updated typically. I have this issue on couple of sites where we did some major updates and wanted to re share some pages, but both FB and twitter keep the OLD info, old photo, etc. and won’t update the NEW info, since they already have been “shared” the “old/bad” version. This may not apply to you, but keep in mind FB and Twitter have so much traffic and frequent technical issues, that sometimes there is simply nothing you can do about it as it has nothing to do with your site whatsoever.

Basically if you look at your page source and see all the properly formatted og:tags and twitter tags, description and title tags, then the issue is NOT with your site.

For example, I was sharing some stories from CNN to my G+ account, and all that was showing in the share was the photo and the page URL, no headline, and no description. Issue not with CNN, but with Google.

Likely doesn’t help, but it’s an on/off/on problem with sharing stuff to FB in particular, and sometimes G+. Twitter has been mostly stable, but they do have problems but they do at least have a developer page to SHOW what systems in their network are/are not working in realtinme.

Well, the sidebar is easy to remove under “page template settings” on the editing screen.

As for the header and footer, there are a few ways you could do this. Here are two:

1. You could edit the respective template files in a child theme to check the page id and only include the relevant elements if it’s not your thank you page.

For example, once you set up and activate a child theme, you could edit the header file you’ve selected in your theme panel. Find this in your-child-theme/parts/header… .php, and add this line before the first div:

and this at the very end:

Then you would do the same to other files you want to remove (menu-top.php, footer.php), save, upload, and clear cache.

2. If you’re not comfortable with child themes or php, you could instead do it quickly through CSS:

.page-id-4994 .td-header-bg {
  display: none !important;
  }

And add any container classes that you want to hide, putting them where .td-header-bg is, e.g. .td-header-menu-wrap. You can find these using inspect element.

The CSS solution isn’t great because all the content will still be downloaded by the client’s browser, but it’s very easy.

3. Create a custom page template. WordPress checks for page templates in a hierarchy of importance, including the slug and the ID, so if you your page’s slug is /email-landing and you have a template named page-email-landing.php, or page-4994.php, and so on, WordPress will use that rather than the default one. Then you could edit that one to suit your needs. You could copy page.php from the parent theme’s folder as a starting point.

From what I’ve read, this is probably the most natural solution, but it would still need a child theme to survive theme updates, and to be honest I haven’t looked at enough custom template building yet to know what to advise you. For example, you can’t just remove the call to get_header() from page.php or you’ll lose a lot more than the logo div, etc.

Those are my two cents, coming from a relatively new learner of this sort of thing. If anyone has a better solution, feel free to mention it so I can learn too. 🙂

In Newspaper/includes/modules/module_modifier/ you have td_module_blog.php. This is one of the files you can overwrite (at least I find) in a child theme, which you can set up here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/child-theme-documentation/

Once you have the child theme set up and activated, copy and paste that file into the corresponding folder in your child theme. Then edit the file.

The function get_author_box is the one you want to change.

Specifically, change these lines:

to this one line:

$buffy .= get_avatar(get_the_author_meta('email', $author_id), '106');

to this:

Save the file and upload via FTP. Clear cache and check the bottom of a post.

Note if having issues with your setup it’s best to check with your CDN provider to debug any issues between hosted content on server and on the CDN and how they sync.

Some of these plugins only affect new posts, but that one looks retroactive.

(Note that after you use that plugin, if you don’t see a change, clear your cache if you’re using a cache plugin.

@cleverliving – If you do want to target all pages, you can use the CSS above in the following way (and this is the same process for any CSS @Lucian gives you) :

1. Open your theme panel
2. Scroll down and find the “Custom CSS” section on the left
3. In the first box there, paste this CSS:

body {
  font-family: 'PT Sans', sans-serif;
  font-size: 14px;
  line-height: 21px;
}

This section works by overriding the CSS specified in the theme by default, which is what you’ve just copied in. So now…

4. Change these style attributes to the ones you want. For example, let’s say you want your page text to be Times New Roman at 16px and lines that are 24px high. Your box would contain this:

body {
  font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;
  font-size: 16px;
  line-height: 24px;
}

5. Save settings and clear cache (if you use one) when you’re done.

Why does this work? Because the text on pages is just a <p> that doesn’t have any other font info to inherit. Note that by changing the body CSS like we do here, you’re hypothetically affecting a lot of the site, but most of the other text has other styling that overrides this body styling.

you can see where I am trying to use the 7 day popular posts on the front page of this site http://myturriff.co.uk/ just below the big picture, titled ‘Most Read’, I’m seeing one post from this week and 2 from 2013. The two posts from 2013 according to jetpack stats have not been viewed once in the past 30 days.

I’ve tried turning off all non required plugins and still get the same result.

I turned off W3 Total Cache when you first highlighted the issue with it so there are no caches to clear.

Any ideas

CDN, W3 total cache, mine is cleared, but still not changing.

You’re using W3 Total Cache – Be sure to empty all caches after selecting the Blog Style header and saving changes, then load it up and see how it works. The only other thing coming to mind would be custom CSS hard-coding the header into place, which isn’t likely.
