It works with PHP 8.3x and WordPress 7.0x
Usually clearing the cache after update fixes it. I had same issue on one of five sites, with the “problem with site” message. Clearing cache in browser worked.
Remember to update plugins also, like classic editor if using that, Yoast, etc. — many plugins gets updates with new version of WP.
You can always roll back the version of WP if needed.
Hi,
after updating WordPress to the latest version and updating PHP on my server, the System Status page in the Newspaper theme stopped working.
Instead of showing the theme version and server information, I get this message:
“There has been a critical error on this website.”
Everything else works correctly:
the frontend works without issues
the Theme Panel loads
the website is fully functional
Only System Status is broken.
My environment:
Newspaper: 12.7.6 (the latest version available on ThemeForest)
WordPress: latest version
PHP: recently updated (likely 8.2 or 8.3)
No other changes were made
The issue appeared immediately after the WP + PHP update
Disabling cache/security plugins does not fix the issue
It seems that the System Status module in Newspaper 12.7.6 is not fully compatible with the newest WordPress/PHP versions.
Questions:
Is Newspaper 12.7.6 fully compatible with the latest WordPress and PHP 8.2/8.3?
Is this a known issue affecting the System Status module?
Is there a recommended PHP version (e.g., 8.1) for Newspaper 12.7.6?
Will there be an update to restore compatibility?
I see it now. I see it’s a background image set for the content zone, and there is a 1 second opacity transition before it fully loads.
Since there’s no setting to disable that transition effect, I could provide some CSS to override it. Please copy the code from here https://pastebin.com/TR1GsHjh and enter it in the theme panel here -> https://prnt.sc/HIjJ3Py7GQrU Then clear the cache if you use any, and check the post again. Let me know if that works. In case it doesn’t please leave the code in the theme panel so I can check while it is there.
Thank you!
Hi,
Could you check if this setting is disabled perhaps -> https://prnt.sc/i4Jmyra4dzNl ? If it is, please enable it, clear the cache and check again. Let me know if that was the case.
Thank you!
Hi,
Something must have happened. I checked your website and it looks like the the lightbox is functioning incorrectly. But I’m not sure why it’s like that.
There is something you could try however. Please copy the code from here -> https://pastebin.com/Q7Asfyax and paste it in the theme panel here -> https://prnt.sc/TSbvb6mDJ3_W Then clear the cache and check if it’s working correctly. Let me know.
Thank you!
Hi Newspaper/TagDiv support team,
We are running Newspaper theme version 12.7.6 on our WordPress site (https://www.opisantacruz.com.ar) and we are experiencing an issue with the mobile menu not opening when tapping the hamburger icon on mobile devices.
Here are the details:
**Issue:**
The hamburger menu icon is visible in the mobile header but tapping it does nothing — the menu does not open on Safari (iOS) or Chrome (Android/iOS).
**Setup:**
– Theme: Newspaper 12.7.6
– Page builder: TagDiv Composer
– Mobile header configured in TagDiv Composer with the “Mobile menu” block set to “Mobile Theme” menu
– WP Rocket plugin active with “Delay JavaScript execution” enabled
– WP Engine hosting with server-level caching
**What we have tried:**
1. Excluding tagdiv_theme.min.js from WP Rocket’s Delay JavaScript execution — menu still not opening
2. Excluding /td-composer/legacy/Newspaper/js/tagdiv_theme — menu still not opening
3. Excluding tagdiv_npm — menu still not opening
4. Excluding /wp-content/themes/Newspaper and tagdiv-composer — this caused a blank page on article URLs and had to be reverted
5. Clearing all caches (WP Rocket + WP Engine) after each attempt
**Console errors detected (Chrome DevTools):**
– [Violation] 'setInterval' handler took 133ms in tagdiv_theme.min.js?ver=12.7.6:236
– Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token '.' in swg-basic.js:1
– Two 404 errors: /wp-content/cache/min/1/wp-content/plugins/td-composer/css-live/assets/external/ace/snippets/text.js and ace/mode-less.js
**Question:**
Which specific JavaScript file handles the mobile hamburger menu toggle in Newspaper 12.7.6, and what is the correct way to exclude it from WP Rocket’s Delay JavaScript execution without breaking other functionality?
Alternatively, is there a recommended configuration for using Newspaper 12.7.6 with WP Rocket’s Delay JavaScript execution enabled?
Thank you.
Hi,
We are running Newspaper 12.7.6 with td-cloud-library 3.7 and td-composer 5.2 on a server with 56 CPUs and 64GB RAM.
Our site has:
– 214,000 published posts
– 209,000 attachments
– PHP 8.0, MySQL 8.0
Every time we activate td-cloud-library or td-composer, the server load spikes from 8 to 90-127 within seconds. We see 100+ php-cgi processes and 80-100 simultaneous MySQL queries running against wp_posts and wp_postmeta tables.
We have already tried:
– Updating plugins to latest versions
– Adding database indexes (including spro_tagdiv_recent_posts from Scalability Pro)
– Increasing PHP memory to 512M
– Clearing all cache
The plugins are incompatible with large sites. Without them active, the server runs fine. With them active, the site crashes.
Please advise what is causing this behavior and how to fix it for large sites.

Hi TagDiv Support,
My site https://www.selemedia.org stopped being indexed by Google immediately after I installed and activated the Newspaper theme.
Problem:
1. Before installing Newspaper, posts were indexed normally.
2. After activation, new and old posts show as “Crawled – currently not indexed” in Google Search Console.
3. Google reports “No referring sitemaps detected” even though my sitemaps have URLs.
4. Viewing the page source shows Google is not seeing noindex, but indexing still fails.
What I’ve already checked:
– Deactivated RankMath and all other SEO plugins. The issue remains.
– My sitemaps at /wp-sitemap-posts-post-1.xml are working and list 45+ URLs.
– “Discourage search engines” is unchecked in Settings > Reading.
– Using LiteSpeed Cache and Cloudflare, but I’ve purged all cache.
I suspect the Newspaper theme’s built-in SEO settings may be setting a global noindex or blocking Googlebot.
Request:
Can you tell me exactly where in Newspaper > Theme Panel I should check to ensure posts are set to index, follow and not blocked from Google?
Site URL: https://www.selemedia.org
WordPress version: 7.0
Newspaper theme version: 12.7.6
Thanks,
John Sele Philip
Most of the things I suggested apply to that website as well.
I checked the posts you mentioned. While they are pretty long posts, the caching does the job very nicely. You are getting loading times of half a second on all the posts from the website that I checked -> https://prnt.sc/FwCdgaVmQZUX That’s a great job. Or do they load differently for you? Maybe after clearing the cache the first visit will be slower, but once the cache is created there is a consistent loading time of half a second.
What I could add to the above, if you are using popups to load other pages or custom content, those can also be delayed from loading -> https://prnt.sc/9hVlEidCHOFD This can matter a lot. So delaying the mega-menus, delaying the popups, delaying the footer. This provides a faster initial loading speed. But please test after using those options, to see if there are any problems.
Thank you!
That’s the same page. Assuming you did set a mobile page for this page https://glostv.com/glostv-assistir-tv-online-ao-vivo-gratis and it doesn’t look exactly the same, then it means the mobile page isn’t being served. The page looks exactly the same for me on desktop and mobile. I can’t see any differences.
One thing that can cause issues with dedicated mobile content, such as mobile pages, is the caching. For example if the desktop page is cached, then it will be served to everyone regardless of the device they are using to access it. I believe you are using litespeed, please activate this option -> https://prnt.sc/qIm-aoyqUiIe and clear the cache. Then the desktop page and the mobile page should be served properly.
I should mention again, that the purpose of using a mobile page is if you want to display something different on mobile. If not, there is no reason to use them.
Thank you!
And here are a few example blog pages you can review for reference. Of course, you can inspect any page on the website, but my primary concern is specifically the loading speed and performance of the blog pages.
Examples:
https://product-wiki.com/12-tips-how-to-stop-doomscrolling-on-social-media-easiest-way/
https://product-wiki.com/what-is-google-gemini-omni-ai-how-to-use-it/
I’m mainly trying to make the blog pages load as fast as possible because that is where the majority of the traffic lands from search engines. Even if the homepage or some other sections are slightly heavy, that is still manageable for me. But the blog pages should ideally be lightweight and extremely fast.
So if possible, could you please suggest some practical changes or optimizations that might genuinely help improve the speed? If required, I can also share the list of plugins, cache settings, optimization setup, or anything else that may help in debugging the issue.
Please do let me know if you need anything from my side.
Hi,
Sure, I’ll take a look and try to provide suggestions. I believe this is your website https://product-strategist.com/
I checked a few post pages and for me the loading speed is usually below 1 second https://prnt.sc/k0jMr6tL1b_Z That’s certainly not very slow. I see you are using Litespeed which is a very good plugin. You could try the option to delay the JS https://docs.litespeedtech.com/lscache/lscwp/pageopt/#js-settings-tab this one here https://prnt.sc/-qSiTgI_hUMf which would make it faster, but it could also cause problems with how the page looks or works, please test it carefully.
The images are optimized and they are lazyloaded, which is very good.
One suggestion I would make is to delete the standard pack plugin -> https://prnt.sc/ARUZDej2rw2C this is not required for the theme demo you installed. Deleting it it stops resources from it from being loaded unnecessarily.
Maybe also try delaying the loading of the mega-menu, there is an option for that -> https://prnt.sc/y0F9L98R-gEf
Also try delaying the loading of the footer -> https://prnt.sc/hGvAdiY8wm3I
If you try a few of these there should be improvements. But there could also be issues, so please test carefully.
Thank you!
Hi,
@susanapri Maybe it’s the same issue from above, but there was no WordPress 7 back then. I see my colleague Calin provided a code to fix it in that case, as it was the best solution to avoid making changes on the website or disabling plugins. You could test the same solution to see if it works.
The code is here -> https://pastebin.com/TZY7Q0Gx
Please copy it from there and add it in the theme panel custom JS section -> https://prnt.sc/OsEw4xhC4c2H
The last step is to clear the cache and check if the problem is solved.
If the problem isn’t solved, I will take a closer look at it. You can send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide a link to the website and admin login, also an example of the issue. And please include a link to this topic in the email.
Thank you!
Hello developers,
I am currently facing an issue with my website performance and really need some help.
A few months ago, I purchased the Newspaper WordPress theme and started using one of its templates. I actually tested multiple templates before finalizing the current one, but even after trying a lot of optimizations, the website is still loading very slowly, especially the blog pages.
I have already tried several cache plugins, optimization tools, image compression, and other performance improvements, but nothing seems to be fixing the issue properly so far.
It would really help if someone could take a look at the website and suggest what might be causing the problem. If possible, any direct optimization support or performance improvements from your side would be greatly appreciated.
I genuinely want to make the website fast and smooth for users, so any help or guidance would mean a lot.
Thanks.
Hello tagDiv Support,
I am experiencing a responsive layout issue with the Newspaper Theme / tagDiv Composer on mobile devices.
Problem description:
On the second/narrower mobile viewport, the entire layout suddenly behaves as if the desktop width is still active. Rows, columns and content containers expand to desktop width instead of adapting to the smaller mobile viewport.
Important details:
* The issue only appears on the narrower mobile viewport.
* Desktop and larger mobile/tablet viewports work correctly.
* The problem affects the entire viewport width, not just a single element.
* I already checked common responsive settings and cleared caches.
* The problem persists even after removing several header elements.
* The affected pages are built with tagDiv Composer and Cloud Templates.
* I suspect either:
* corrupted viewport-specific Composer settings,
* a responsive inheritance problem,
* Stretch Row / fixed-width settings not resetting correctly,
* or a known issue related to the lower mobile viewport.
Additional observations:
* I found references in your changelog mentioning fixes related to:
* responsive checkbox behavior on lower viewports,
* sticky columns on mobile,
* viewport-specific layout issues.
Questions:
1. Are there known issues in recent Newspaper versions related to the second mobile viewport?
2. Is there a known bug where desktop width settings persist on smaller mobile breakpoints?
3. Could this be related to:
* Stretch Row,
* Sticky Columns,
* Cloud Header templates,
* Mobile Theme plugin,
* or Composer viewport inheritance?
4. Is there a recommended way to fully reset viewport-specific Composer settings for rows/columns?
Environment:
* WordPress
* Newspaper Theme
* tagDiv Composer
* Cloud Templates enabled
* Classic Editor
* Responsive mode (not AMP)
Thank you.

Sometimes, i got a saving succcess message but there is no change on my homepage… It drives me crazy. I refresh the page everwyhere without any cache. I always got the same homepage from the template.
Hello,
i just buyed Newspaper template to update quickly my website with a better design. I chose NFT News Pro prebuilt website. It works good… But when i use DivTag Composer to modify it, i cant save anything !
The saving wheel just turn and turn… Sometimes, it ends to save but i cant see any change on the website. I cant do any edit on this design since 20 minutes.
No cache problem. I removed all cache plugins and i use Chrome with private browsing.
Please help me; thank you.
Hi,
I see there was no option added for it. You could however use some javascript to make the button link open in a new tab. Please try the code from here -> https://pastebin.com/3QhizUuS It can be added in the theme panel -> https://prnt.sc/Vv94LIQB1TKP It should make the link open in a new tab. Be sure to clear the cache after entering it. Please try it and let me know if it works.
Thank you!
I need help. since years my Newspaper Theme works wonderfull. But now, where my site is well ranked in Google and already very big, „Theme image Lightbox fails for portrait images when tdShowModal is enabled. Direct image URLs work. Simple Lightbox is installed disabled makes no difference.“ All my portrait Pice on the page are not working anymore. There is always the error “The Pic No ## could not be loaded”. I enabled disabled, I empty the Cache etc. Error ist stable. Landscape Pics ae working.
Hi Simon,
Thank you for the detailed explanation and clarification regarding the current category filter behavior inside Cloud Templates and Flex/Grid blocks.
Your explanation actually helped me better understand the design philosophy behind the system and also why our setup behaves differently from what Newspaper normally expects.
I think part of the reason is that I still approach content structures from a more relational/database-oriented mindset. My background goes back to older database systems like dBase II/III/IV, BASIC, DOS scripting, Excel VBA/macros, etc. Because of that, I naturally tend to think in layered logical relationships rather than purely in single-category archive structures.
So in my head, the logic becomes something like:
IF current category = Regio Gouda
THEN include:
Regio Gouda (the regional page + the region category)
Zuid-Holland (one of the 12 provences of the Netherlands + the region category Gouda)
regional/national shared pool (one category showing on all regionpages)
AND exclude:
Binnenland (the general page and category for nationwide news without a specific regional topic)
rather than simply:
“display current category archive”.
That is probably where my expectations differed from how Newspaper internally handles Cloud Template category logic.
Our setup is also somewhat unusual in scale and structure for a single-site WordPress installation:
1 VPS-based installation
Ubuntu + Apache2 + Plesk Obsidian
16 vCPU / 60 GB RAM / 2 TB storage
single WordPress site
67 main sections/pages
57 dynamically related regional structures
55,000+ news posts since 2017
40,000+ featured images through Google Drive (WPMF Cloud addon)
database approx. 740 MB
site files approx. 600 MB
WP Rocket + Redis Object Cache
approx. 79,000 unique visitors monthly
approx. 325,000 pageviews monthly
Performance remains extremely stable:
GTMetrix A / 100%
Core Web Vitals all green
SEO 100/100
average TTFB around 55ms
So for us, the discussion was never really about performance gains. The static regional pages already perform extremely well.
The real motivation behind the Cloud Template migration was primarily:
maintaining one centralized template instead of maintaining 57+ manually structured regional landing pages.
Your explanation now makes it much clearer why our relational regional/province logic does not fully align with the intended behavior of _current_cat inside Cloud Templates.
To be honest, I actually appreciate the clarification because it confirms that the behavior we observed was not random or broken, but simply outside the normal archive-oriented design philosophy of the system.
Thank you again for the insights and technical clarification.
Best regards,
Egbert van den Bosch

Hi,
The website is very slow, as if the caching is not working at all or something is consuming all the website resources. Looking at it with the browser inspector the page appears to be cached by WP Optimize. I’ve used this plugin before and the website should be much faster with it.
I noticed that there are a lot of admin ajax requests made by the Ad rotate plugin https://prnt.sc/iTqlq3PQCXq7 I believe those requests are related to this setting from the plugin https://prnt.sc/VwTLdQuvYk4S which is and was known for causing serious problems with the website performance. I suggest testing to see how the website loads without this plugin. Make a quick test, deactivate it, clear the cache, then check the website. Or disable the stats tracker and test https://prnt.sc/vAgJ7054BkTT
If the situation is the same, it must be something else. In that case I suggest to send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide access to the website, so we can take a closer look.
Thank you!
Hi,
Some of those are resources loaded by the theme, which is normal. I see you are using litespeed, the settings that help with reducing render blocking and improving the LCP score, are these:
1. https://docs.litespeedtech.com/lscache/lscwp/pageopt/#load-js-deferred
2. https://docs.litespeedtech.com/lscache/lscwp/pageopt/#load-css-asynchronously
Please note that some optimization settings can cause problems with how the website looks or works. Be sure to check the website after activating such options.
I believe you are using mobile pages and templates from the theme, is this correct? If so, please make sure this setting is also active https://prnt.sc/jG610I0zDd7m Clear all caches if you activate that setting.
Thank you!
When attempting to access any existing Page via TagDiv Composer for the purpose of revision, we experience a never-ending loading screen. We are also unable to close that window without closing the browser window. All site caches have been cleared. To recreate this issue:
Admin/All Pages/(select any Page)/Edit with TagDiv Composer)
Site is https://www.bizcatalyst360.com/
Hi,
I’ve just checked the site and can see that you’ve updated the block, and it is now displaying correctly. It looks like the issue was related to cached content that was still being applied.
Thank you!
It must be the cache, because I carefully checked that the entries were only assigned to their correct categories. Thank you so much!
