Hi,
It dose work, I’ve just tested it, so make sure you empty all caches and/or purge cdn files and test this again.
Thanks for the message!
Hi,
I did not found any issues using the latest version of the theme, so please make sure that you test this like Emil suggested without any plugins active, leave just Visual Composer active, clear cache and purge your files if you use CDN, also resave your permalinks.
Also if you still have this issue send an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide wp-access so we can take a look, also paste a link to this topic so we can know who you are and what your issue is.
Thanks!
Hi,
I have checked your site and you have some js errors in the console that may cause this issue – http://screencast.com/t/Imbv3nUDSMlq So please make sure that you test this without any plugins active, leave only Visual Composer, clear cache and purge your files if you use CDN. Also please disable all js/css minification and see if you still have this issue.
Thanks!
Hi,

Hi,
Sorry for the delay, we take each message from the old ones to the newest. If you bump the message it will go among the latest and the reply time will be increased.
Did you solved this issue? Please check this without any plugins active, leave only Visual Composer active, clear cache and purge your files if you use CDN. If you have the js/css compressed please disable it.
If you still have this issue please provide a link so we can take a look, also you can try to disable lazy load effect from Theme Panel > Template Settings – http://screencast.com/t/mMkDL3Sk5LmV
Thanks!
a) did you re-generate your thumbnails to fit this theme ? This is noted in the docs
b) did you clear all your caching/CDN reset to serve up all the new content
try those and you should see huge improvement! 🙂
Also, check out my sticky topic on optimizations I’ve been using with the TagDiv themes the past 2 years, based on stuff I’ve been doing with WordPress since 2005.
Hope that helped vs annoyed 🙂
Hello everyone!
I was recently running my website (www.christianholydays.com.au) using the Enfold wordpress theme and was receiving an average of 80 in the google page speed test. After deciding to try other wordpress themes that appeared to receive good reviews for speed, I changed over to Newspaper. I spent a couple weeks transitioning the site over to newspaper, and then received an incredible shot when I did a google page speed test:
http://grab.by/JhpM
http://grab.by/JhpO
35/100 on the mobile version, and 40/100 on the desktop version. When looking into the reason for the poor score, I discovered several issues. It appears that all of the images are being resized and instead of optimised files being delivered, full size images are being resized via css/html. This is affirmed through GT Metrix as well. GT Metrix gives 65/100 score, and states that several images are “resized in HTML or CSS from 845×475 to 178×100.”
Can someone please help me with this issue? I’ve tried to do several things to help the issue, but it doesn’t seem to be working.
I’ve currently got MAXCDN installed with additional zones, using the fastest hosting package through Siteground, purchased the ewww image compression functionality, have w3 caching plugin installed, and static/dynamic/MEM caching through my server. I’d hate to see what my score was with out any of the caching plugins! Perhaps it’d be better??
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
-Richard
CDNify 🙂
Hi,
We’re sorry to hear that you had issue with our theme. We make a lot of tests on each update before releasing it, unfortunately it’s impossible to replicate all conditions. There are many servers and each come with different settings.
On most cases the layout issues are caused by cache or cdn, it may still deliver an old version for some of the theme files(ex. style.css). The demos download a few images from our servers, this process should run smooth but in some rare cases the connection it too slow and results in a connection timeout. Try to install it again or try installing another demo, see if there’s a difference in behavior. Let me know how it goes.
We’re looking for an alternative to this.
If the above solutions are not working please send an email at contact@tagdiv.com , paste a link to this conversation and provide wp-admin access so we can take a look.
Thank you!
Hi
If you place the custom css or you alter the original css of the theme in the style file then that styles would load first just like you want it and without other css to overwrite it should work fine.
Make sure you do your changes to the style files then purge cdn files and empty caches and test again.
Let us know how ti goes and give us wp-access via email at contact@tagdiv.com so we can have a closer look at this if you still can’t manage to solve it.
Thanks!
Hi
That happens because the setting you currently use has been changed in the latest update. It’s enough to go to theme panel >categories and set the category template: http://screencast.com/t/JmI2zZx8xoV make sure you clear the cache, purge cdn file if you’re using and test again.
Thanks!
Hi,
Please update the theme to the latest version, clear the cache/cdn (if you use any) and check again.

I use W3Cache and a CDN 🙂
Just reinstalled wp and the theme in default demo version.
But the problem persist. what can i do?
a) clear your caching, reset CDN, if applicable OK
b) set your permalinks in the WP admin panel and resave? OK
c) make sure your .htaccess is writable to allow changing permalink structure I THINK OK: IS rw-r-r with 644 PERMISSION
d) go to a demo post and click preview, and check the “slug” shows the link structure you want from post edit page? I SEE THE LINK BUT PREVIEW DON’T WORK (404)
Other ideas?
Hi,
If you update from Newspaper 4 then note that Newspaper 6 is practically a new theme, the code structure was modified and the old custom modifications(or custom css) have to be rewritten.
If you refer to the latest update then yes, you have to save the custom code modifications (or backup the current theme) on you local hard disk, install the latest version and reapply the code modifications. The css added in Theme Panel -> Custom CSS is not affected because it’s saved in the database and you only update the theme files.
The best practice is to backup the side before updating (usually there’s a backup option in the cpanel/host administration area). If you use a cdn or a cache plugin clear the cache (purge cdn files).
Thank you!
Hi,
Have you updated theme from version 4, if so you have to run the update script after updating the theme, like instructed in the update guide here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
Updating the theme right shouldn’t cause you any issues so you can try to update the theme based on this guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ backup your current install, run the import settings script, update plugins and check the result. You can always get back to the previous working theme version if something goes wrong as long as you backup it but doing the update as instructed the theme should work fine.
You should also consider into the process at the following aspects:
– backup your current theme/WordPress/database: https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups
– setup a maintenance mode and you can use a plugin for that.
– empty all caches/purge files if you also use CDN host then disable any services of this type until you switch to the new theme
– disable all plugins
– install the theme then install the required plugins
– switch back the rest of the plugins and start other services
Let us know how it goes!
Thanks
Which plugin are you using for Cache? Or are you using a CDN?
I find the plugin very stable now, I would say it’s 5 times better than what I had available originally 8/9 months ago, when I started this as a hobbie at first. Again, I recommend a decent server, the cheapest one will require work to stay fast and deliver a pleasant user experience (like CDN, cache, optimized images, etc)
Dates are now easily set, used to be an headache. Depends what one consider “small things” I guess 🙂 everything that is standard or mainstream works very well.
Comments are not affected by the plugin (except for the labels of the input fields ofc), a comment made in a post, regardless of its content or its language, will appear in all versions (languages) of the post/page. I remember I stumbled upon an extension/plugin which allowed to show comments separated per language, I see it can be useful in some cases but it is not for mine, a least for now, so I never used/tested it. Out of the box, no option is given to the user commentating in regard of classifying a post as being in any particular language.
Menus are great, I just need to customize the theme or the plugin to show a flag in mobile, between the icons of search and slide the menu. Right now is ok but (just one click away) but I kindda like gimmicks
You can have a look at http://www.infoporto.pt but I still have some bugs and it might not be the best example because it has some customizations and custom post types and custom post fields… I just started January and I have other things not related to the site it self to deal with… The hobbie became serious but I had to focus first on one language first because, in my case, there’s a will to have some depth in the differences of the contents of each language (2 so far, soon professionals will be hired to translate a more solid number). I also had delays in releasing “final” and complete version of my site cause of constant developments, newspaper seems to support child themes and custom post types now so I need to check out that first before continuing to fine tune the custom functions I already made.
Did you
a) clear your caching, reset CDN, if applicable
b) set your permalinks in the WP admin panel and resave?
c) make sure your .htaccess is writable to allow changing permalink structure
d) go to a demo post and click preview, and check the “slug” shows the link structure you want from post edit page?
Hi,
I can see it working fine for this post: http://screencast.com/t/GDOSh3zfXC for which the fetayred image is set: http://screencast.com/t/LLryDTEX
Make sure you empty all caches and also purge files if you sue cdn host and test this again.
Thanks for the message!
Hi,
Sorry for the delay, we take each message from the old ones to the newest. If you bump the message it will go among the latest and the reply time will be increased.
I’ve checked your site and it seems you have some js errors in the console – http://screencast.com/t/vmAV1uusyqRS
The smart sidebar is uses js and those errors may interfere with it’s functionality. I suspect the errors come from a plugin conflict or a custom code added. Try to disable all plugins, remove all custom code and if you use a cdn disable it. Enable only Visual Composer and see if the issue is still there. If it’s gone enable the other plugins one by one and see which one is causing this issue.
Thank you!
