Hi @awtown
With regard at the code from child theme there is an important aspects that must be considered:
â if in previous themeâs version a specific code added in child theme worked fine that doesnât mean that will work with a new theme version. When theme update many of its files are changed and itâs a good practice to check update_log.txt file for each update and see what files had been modified so if those specific files are used in the child theme you will have to check your customizations to not break the functionality of the theme.
In this process is recommended that you first backup your child theme and all modifications then check each file youâve customized and if itâs ok add it in the same path in the child theme, if not make adapt the changes then add the file. In order to compare files you can also use winmerge according to this tutorial: https://forum.tagdiv.com/compare-theme-files-winmerge-tutorial/
If you still canât manage this and you need additional assistance or informations, please fell free to ask and address us via email at contact@tagdiv.com and also provide a link to this conversation and give us ftp and wp access.
Thanks!
You need to update visual composer, and speed booster plugin if using then when updating theme, usually. Might not be your issue, but worth a try. Update via ftp.
Hi,
I’m having trouble while manually updating from 2.1 to the latest version of Newsmag.
I’m using ftp to do so, I renamed the “old” folder Newsmag to a different name and uploaded the latest version instead. I’m also using a Child theme and wp_super_cache (which I flushed as well)
So with the latest version I get the following errors on any page, even in the wp-admin panel:

What’s happened ? how can I have it fixed quickly as my website is in production and I can only update at a certain time of the day ?
Thank you so much,
mikedo7
Note, there is update plugin 0.3.1 today (2/24); also the “Yoast SEO Glue” plugin is now in the WordPress.org repository for auto-install from WP panel or FTP without having to mess with the github dev version!
For those using YOAST SEO + AMP, get this:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/glue-for-yoast-seo-amp/
In my test pages, the “image” works when loaded/placed between paragraphs but didn’t work when it was a featured image loaded on page outside the actual post meta.
If using the YOAST SEO GLUE addon for Yoast SEO, it looks like that will pick up the description and also make sure featured image (fallback to OG image) will be inserted into the code.
Be sure to read the threads for the plugin on WordPress.org (for both plugins).
In my tests in December I found the social plugin I was using didn’t work with AMP, as the FontAwesome font would not load and hence had broken elements for sharing.
I’ll be testing AMP with the Simple Local Avatars plugin, which is the one I happen to use for local hosting of author pix.

NOTE THIS IS EVOLVING AS WE SPEAK
I just got ping back to help debug the alternate wp-content folder path bug, so will be following up with them on that today to help fix that issue.
Hi,
The theme makes all database requests via wordpress, we don’t use direct database queries. The following function is used to on all blocks – http://screencast.com/t/rZk523NGAai
Try to disable all plugins and check if the issue is still there.
If this doesn’t help please send us a copy of your error.log file via email at contact@tagdiv.com , also include more details about this issue and if possible provide wp-admin and ftp access so we can take a look.
Thank you!
Hi guys and thank you for your answers.
@Chris: I did not mean to merge the plugins CSS and/or JS but rather to make “local” their calls that are made in every site page header. In other terms, I’d like to copy these resources (CSS and JS) locally to my server filesystem and call them from there to avoid the TCP/IP delay overhead. I have already tried commenting the wp_head() and including them straight forward by their local paths but this approach causes malfunctioning to the page load. There is something of “dinamic behaviour” of wp_head() that prevents this approach to work successfully. But what?
@Andrej: I’ve deeply read the Speed Booster approach and I’ve tried it, firstly getting the blocking resources names by means of Google Speed Insights tips. It reports that the above fold blocking resources are:

As you can see, no one of the registered CSS and JS listed by functions.php curresponds to those found by Google Speed Insights! So that I don’t have any ID of CSS and/or JS to use to move their loading in the footer by means of td-speed-booster.php hacking.
What is wrong with that or what could be done instead?
Thanks in advance,
Giuseppe

Hi
I am not sure why this error appear on your site as the cede it’s tested and works fine. Try to replace only this function in td_module.php file. The function begin here: http://screencast.com/t/s9R3SxjokIL and ends here: http://screencast.com/t/5DMZLPKdApi Delete the origilanl function then paste this one:

I’ve already using Google DFP to manage all the advertising spaces on my web site (please see http://43b.60a.myftpupload.com/). Here, all the ads banners are currently served by Google DFP and I’m wondering if the site skin, (i.e. the background image) could be served by Google DFP as well rather manage it through the Newsmag theme panel. How can it be achieved?
Thanks in advance for any appreciated help.
Giuseppe
Also, I think we used this once, but not recently….
a) install the wp-optimize plugin
b) switch to default theme
c) delete old theme folder via FTP
d) in wp-optimize, optimize your DB, and delete ALL transient data
e) use the WordPress database reset plugin:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-database-reset/
[ read the docs for above plugin before use !!!!!! ]
you should then be able to reinstall the theme and there should not be any pre-existing data from the first theme setup …
this is presuming you have a blank slate test website, and presuming you have a full backup of your data and mysql file for safe keeping.
Hi
Thanks @Chris for your feedback.
@DaneOLeary if you still can’t manage to solve this issue please provide wp-admin and ftp accesses so we can take a closer look at this issue.
Thanks!
Hello,
The link to the database tutorial works on my end. Please try it again: http://screencast.com/t/XVWHMQfSFuso
For the email, please check your spam section as well as it happens sometimes.
Please send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide wp-admin and ftp access so we can inspect this issue.
Please also include a link to this topic.
As for the activation, at the moment if you do not activate the theme, there will only be the notification message. But we do plan on implementing some restrictions for this to discourage piracy but we cannot provide any details at the moment as it not yet set into motion.
Thanks you!
If the image works with the default image, but not with your version, it may be that the file you’re uploading to replace the original image is malformed in some way, or that the caching is not letting go of the cached file.
You might try this
assuming the file permissions of the files you’re uploading via FTP actually have the correct CHMOD setting … perhaps try using different image editor in case file corrupt in some way …
a) get it working with default placeholder image
b) make sure the /path/to/placeholder works by loading it in web browser based on what prints on page
c) refresh all caching, etc., turn off lazy loading, make sure if using CDN image is actually in ALL places content is being loaded or being redirected from
d) if using https, make sure you have your site properly setup to ONLY load https and NOT both http and https
e) try deleting the placeholder image, not over-write; upload your image, clear all caching again, then reload page and see if new image is there
f) if not, then try using a different image editing program
sorry … might not help, just food for thought
Hi there,
Since yesterday, I am facing a weird issue related to the footer and the sidebar: the footer stretched itself, but not in all the pages/posts (just in some of them), and the posts main sidebar (located on the right), has now “moved” to the left, leaving a huge blank space on the right and covering up the post content.
I have tried by disabling all plugins, cleaning cache, deleting and reinstalling main and child theme but, no luck: the issue is still there.
Since the site is not live yet so, I can provide the support team both FTP and WP admin access (if you give me an e-mail or way to contact you by private message, I will send the details to you), so you can check what’s happening and what might be wrong.
Thank you
Hello jtobler,
I have checked your website and I saw the full-width mode. Unfortunately, our theme has not been designed to be used in full-width version, sorry! If you have some custom modification in this regard, please remove it because the theme does not support this. Also, please ensure that you have installed the theme in correct way according to our documentation here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/
Thank you for the message!
Hi,
Please disable any plugins you might have. Simply leave visual composer active and clear your cache. Then activate the theme. If the problem is still there without other plugins, then please make a copy of the error log and send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide wp-admin and ftp access (as well as the error log) and as many details as you can about the issue. Please also include a link to this topic so we can identify you quicker.
Thank you!
Try uploading an image via the media manager and make sure the file is actually there ; if so, then it’s writable (or learn to use FTP and what CHMOD and file permissions on web server folders are). If it’s not, then theme cannot create pictures in the folder for the thumbnail sizes.
One also presumes you didn’t turn “off” all the image sizes for thumbs in the theme panel. đ
Also make sure you’re not using any “auto minify” plugins as that can break stuff too.
See theme docs, link right side of page, on how to update theme.
Usually via ftp is best method.
Best to edit files via FTP so you can make a back up locally on your HD.
Use a text editor to edit php files.
Good to learn how to do this if you plan to modify files, make backups, etc.
Well .. again (sigh) .. .a clean install of WordPress would solve that.
if you DELETE the wp-includes folder and install a new copy then that solves that, right?
Simply go to WordPress.org and DOWNLOAD the zip file for WordPress … follow the upgrade instructions on WordPress.org to upgrade via FTP.
If you learn to use FTP, you can see all your files and directories, and you can easily delete both the wp-includes and wp-admin folders, and upload fresh ones from the zip file for WordPress. And then over-write the other “root” files from the install zip (it won’t over write the wp-config.php file as there isn’t one in the installer).
So, unless you actually do what I suggested which is a clean install of WordPress, not much else I can say on this topic.
Hi, you can just upload the theme files via FTP which is the best way to do that.
There is no infection in the TagDiv booster and Newspaper theme. So, installing clean version of that is best way.
The simple way to do it is this:
deactivate all plugins, then via FTP, delete the booster plugin in wp-content/plugins/
delete the newspaper theme folder in wp-content/themes
upload fresh copy via FTP of the Newspaper folder to wp-content/themes
As far as infection — I had suggested also doing clean install of WORDPRESS, which is always a good idea if you know you were hacked.
You can often hire somebody to do all this for you if you don’t know how.
Hi
That file is not available in WordPress editor. You have to edit it manually on your computer, apply the indicated changes then upload it via ftp in same exact folder.
Before making any changes make sure you do a full backup to your current wp-install and the database. In case something goes wrong you can always get back to the previous version.
If this is not what you mean please provide more details.
Thanks!
