Hello!

I suggest you upload the images in your Media Library in full size (1920 px): https://prnt.sc/YzxtrT24bGKM
We have some settings for the rows and different stretch sizes: https://www.screencast.com/t/bsbB5P97A -> https://prnt.sc/icoqdTR9_DMS4

Thank you!

I basically have 3 sizes for home page plus slider; and then use one of those in sidebar; and one in sidebar with no images. For posts we use inline image not featured image, so the image we upload *is* the image used in template. Heh, so maybe we have 5 modules. Better than 12 + the 3 from WP default!

simchris
tagDiv Member

Usually good to go into the theme settings and deactivate all image module sizes not actually being used. I try to limit mine to no more than (4) module types to limit this issue. Also, go into the WP default media settings and put 0 in all three items to not have those sizes built.

Hi ,

I’m using Newsmag already few years without big problems, but lately while maintaining/tidying up the server, I noticed that for one added image (I use 651×500 in the post) there are over 20 duplicate images of different sizes.
This is only visible on the server. There is probably some conflict with Imagify by optimization, but unfortunately I have been waiting for a response from them for two days.
Has anyone had this problem or can give me any suggestions on what to do?

Peter

Thank you for your answer. So in theory the images should load equally fast in different elements? I have tried all the different sizes, the delay is still present. Please note that the delay is also existent when using the “Text with image” element with the exact same image I use in the “Fancy text with image” element with no delay. Thanks in advance for your help.

Thank you for the answer but frankly I don’t understand it.

How come that the site does not display thumbs but it displays original images, keeping their aspect ratio? Is that a bug? I thought that these modules are supposed to display thumbs of uniform sizes, generated from the source image stored in the Media Library.

I have already tried two regenerating plugins, which are supposed to be the best ones, and it did not help. I also tried the regeneration function in the Media library.

Btw I believe there is a deeper problem with the Media library because my posts do not display images from the library. They simply do not load. I can see them when editing the post, but when I view the post on the live website, images from the Media Library are not there.

I would really appreciate if you guys could have a look at it. I purchased Newspaper 9 long time back, now I bought the N12 version, I love the product but these untidy images ruin the look of the homepage.

Thank you

Hello. My website now displays the thumbnails in inconsistent sizes – each image is different. I tried the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin, I tried the Force Regenerate Thumbnails plugin – to no avail.

See example here – the home page uses Block 11 but images are not neatly cropped. The source images are sufficiently big – usually around 1600 pixels on the wide side.

https://www.jarosovi.cz/

This forum has several posts mentioning the same issue but the solution points to a non-existing page. Please help.

Hi @ncalex,

The plugin Regenerate Thumbnails does not regenerate size 265 x 198 Module M1 (Mobile Theme) and 741 x 486 Big Grid (Mobile Theme).

Because of this, on AMP related articles use full image size, instead of 265 x 198 Module M1 and same full image in Big Grid.

*265 x 198 Module M1 (Mobile Theme) and 741 x 486 Big Grid (Mobile Theme) works fine on upload of image.

*Regenerate Thumbnails works for all other sizes, except for Mobile Theme sizes.

– Looks like Regenerate Thumbnails plugin doesn’t “see” Mobile sizes.

Can you please check.

Thank you.

No, I’m afraid you aren’t answering my question.
I’m not talking about the various fields like “meta property=”og:description” set by Yoast.
I’m talking about this line, which is set further down in the page, appparently linked to a logo or something?
Could you please look at my code and help?

Hello Mariano!

Yes. If you run this plugin: https://forum.tagdiv.com/thumbnails-fix-strange-looking-images-on-blocks/, then the images will automatically be cropped for blocks.
This will help to improve your page speed, but also to fit the images in the blocks.
For other places, you can choose the sizes you want. For example, here:  https://cloud.tagdiv.com/how-to-use-basic-design-principles-to-decorate-your-home/ the image you talk about is a featured image, which we chose to display in full size.
We’re here to help you and answer all your questions.

Thank you!

Hello Mariano!

If you upload an image that is smaller than your size from settings, then this could appear blurry and not of high quality. I suggest you upload the images in your Media Library in full size (1920 px): https://prnt.sc/YzxtrT24bGKM
In the tagdiv Composer, you can use any size that will look better on your website.
Or check out this guide to check the ideal sizes for SEO: https://flothemes.com/flothemes-image-sizes/
Our recommendation is https://prnt.sc/oF12rwqmqAh7

Dear forum,
on my foodblog https://www.mundgefuehl.com/ all featured images on single posts are automatically scaled to the maximum width, distoring the display due to lower image resolution.
How can I change this setting for single posts so that the original image size is displayed?

I had a look at the single post template, but could not resolve this issue via selecting different image sizes. The default (696×0) seems to be too large as well, as most of my featured images are portrait.

Many thanks for your support
Betty

Hello Gus!

Other workaround is to add a new row, place the element Single Post Featured Image and stretch the whole row. We have some settings for the rows and different stretch sizes: https://www.screencast.com/t/bsbB5P97A
Please try and let me know the results!

Thank you!

Hi, I’ve reset the formatting for that zone area but it seems that the template header and footer don’t align with the mid zone (content block)

The problem is that we want to use this template sizes as it fits the theme we would like, it’s just the zone / row for the home page content does not seem to align.

Any suggestions?

Hi! Where do I customize the caption for a post’s featured image (.tdb_single_featured_image .tdb-caption-text)?

I was able to customize the fonts and sizes of the images and photos in the post’s body in “Theme panel >> Theme Fonts”, but I’m not able to do the same in the featured image…

Hi,

Please check if you have the necessary thumbs size enabled for mobile theme from Theme Panel-> Block settings. This can be found here: https://www.screencast.com/t/N18dR3qZrh -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/theme-thumbs/
The mobile theme requires the “265×198” and the “741×486” thumbnail sizes in order to show the featured images properly.

Hey everyone!

I am on Newspaper 12 using the travel guides template. I installed everything on my website to include content and it looks great. However, when I replace an image, like the header image, it is blurry. I have tried multiple image sizes including the same size as the template image. If I replace the header image with the exact same image it blurs it as well. If I exit without saving the changes it reverts back to a clear image. I’ve tried jpg, png, webp, etc…

I have another site that is running Newspaper 12 and this is not happening on it.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Newspaper 12 AND the template 3 times.

Is anyone else experiencing this and know how to fix it?

Thanks so much in advance!

Bettina

Hello!

You can disable the thumbs you are not using. Set up your thumbs from Newspaper -> Theme panel -> Block settings -> Thumbs on modules/blocks. If you deactivate a dimension from there, next time when you will upload an image, it will not be resized to that dimension.
After changing the thumbnail sizes you need to regenerate your thumbnails using a plugin. Check this: https://forum.tagdiv.com/using-the-theme-with-existing-content/
NOTE: If the thumb specific for that block is not enabled, then the image won’t be displayed.

Thank you!

Hello!

I’m not sure what do you need to achieve. But, you can adjust the width and height for the images by using the flex block: https://forum.tagdiv.com/flex-block-settings-guide/. Or else, they are cropped automatically: https://forum.tagdiv.com/featured-image/ ; that’s why you can disable the thumbs you are not using. Set up your thumbs from Newspaper -> Theme panel -> Block settings -> Thumbs on modules/blocks. If you deactivate a dimension from there, next time when you will upload an image, it will not be resized to that dimension.

My website runs out of inodes, when i open the files, i saw that there is almost 30 copies generated of every single image with different sizes that causes server problem, you can check here, check here what should i do, it might be the problem from theme panel, please let me know

Hi chrisfoxatx,

1. For the size of the images you have, you have perfectly selected the thumbs to use – https://i.imgur.com/UM6OgFa.png They work like this after they are activated in the theme panel, these thumbs are created for each image that is loaded in the media, now the problem is with the ones that are already loaded, for these, you have to use a regeneration plugin that should resolve the problem with the retina resolution.
Normally when you select that thumb, for example, 696×0, the thumb with the size 696xauto and retina size will be used instead of the original image.

2. You should use the retina option for all 3 sizes of thumbs you use, this way you will get the best result on both windows and retina (don’t forget to regenerate the images if these options were not selected from the beginning, i.e. before adding the images to the media, and when regenerating select delete all thumbs and regenerate new ones).

3. When you edit the flex element with tagDiv Composer you have the option to select the size of the thumb, as a suggestion I recommended using a middle size because it cannot be adjusted per viewport, it can only be changed if you use the mobile page template.
Also, if the retina thumb is selected in the theme panel and the image has been regenerated, when you select, for example, the 696×0 thumb on windows, the retina thumb corresponding to the 696×0 thumb will be automatically used when a retina device is used.

4. Unfortunately here I can not suggest the best of all with the theme, but a plugin that is ok with the theme is EWWW Image Optimizer , but I have seen many users who also use Smush and Imagify.

I hope this will help you!
Thank you!

Hi Team and Community,

I am utterly confused about the image sizes and best practices. I’ve read ALL of the documentation and links on TagDiv, so please don’t simply refer me to a broad link, as some things aren’t clear to us as customers.

I hope this thread will be useful to a lot of people struggling with this:

Site layout (max width):
– Row stretch up to 1400px

Home page:
– Headlines: 3 images in 3 columns , roughly 1400/3 so width 450px [900px on Retina]

Article page
– Featured image: width 1080px [2160px Retina]
– Sidebar (related): 3 images floated vertically, width 320px [640px on Retina]
– Bottom bar (popular): 4 images floated horizontally, so roughly 1400/4 = width 350px [700px on Retina]

I work on a Mac, and having good image quality is important, so images should be served as x2 resolution (Retina) on devices that support it.

Based on this I have selected these thumbnails in the Theme Settings:

a) Headlines (>450px) => 696×0 + Retina
b) Featured image (>1080px) => 1920×0 + Retina
c) Sidebar related (>320px) => 696×0 + Retina
d) Bottom bar popular (>350px) => 696×0 + Retina

I noticed some images were not sharp, and I briefly installed Jetpack Boost to check why that was.
It gave me warnings that the images shown on my Retina screen were not big enough.

All of the images that I upload are 1920px wide, so it has enough pixel data to work with.

We are using responsive design, not AMP because AMP almost completely removes recognizable branding and it’s a hassle to create 2 versions of each page, instead of a simple responsive layout.

So 4 questions:

1) What happens exactly when we select, for example, the thumbnail 696×0 + Retina?

In our case of a) Headlines, the image shown on the display should be 450px on old displays, and 900px on retina displays.

So should I select 696×0 or should I select a 1068×0 (bigger than the retina resolution)?

2) What about case d). I need at least 350px on old displays, and roughly 700px on retina displays.
696×0 is only 4 pixels short of 700px. What should I select? in TagDiv Composer as width, and should I for that resolution enable [] Retina as well or not in the Theme Panel?

These 2 questions are most important first. If we don’t know how resolution is handled by the theme, then all attempts to optimize the page for speed breaks down from there.

3) It seems that we cannot set different resolutions per device type in Flex Block. How can we make sure that smaller devices don’t load images that are 4x bigger?

4) I’ve been testing different plugins, with mixed results in terms of Google PageSpeed Index scores.
Which image optimization plugins have been tested and give the best results with NewsPaper theme, preferably that does all of what it needs to do in the background.

Any other suggestions that can be helpful?

Thanks for your response Anamaria! We’ve uploaded them at full size. I was under the impression that WP then resizes it into large, medium, thumbnail, etc. The element we’re using in our sidebar is the Flex Block 1, with the Article ImageImage Size set to Small.
