Hi all,

My website with the Newspaper theme has been shut down by my host because one file contains malware. Someone has manually inserted the malware into that file. The problem is that I don’t know what part of the code is malware, so I don’t know what to remove in the code in order to get my site up again.

My site also runs on Newspaper version 4.6.1, and I really cannot and really do not want to upgrade to the latest version because I have modified the theme so much that it would be impossible to update to a newer version.

The infected file is “Newspaper/includes/td_wordpres_booster.php”. Could you please send me a clean version of that file for me to replace my old file?

Or alternatively please tell me what part of the code I should remove to remove the malware:

Hi

In last few days i got A LOT of traffic from googleapis.com ( /auth/chrome-content-suggestions). I don’t know what to do? Is it good or bad? Is it malware or a lot of luck to be on the list of suggested articles?

My site has been down for a few months due to malware infection. Just recently switched hosts, had the site cleaned and brought back up. Everything is working perfectly as it was on the mobile version, but on desktop I am experiencing the following issues and cannot find any way to rectify.–
1. Mega menu is not appearing in the header where it was (it appears it is all set correctly but not showing)
(In it’s place is just the plain site identity info)
2. Front page block headings have disappeared and will not return no matter what changes I attempt to make to fonts and styles.
3. Side bar headings for each widget in the sidebar are also not showing.

I have been through the Theme panel and all other areas of settings making changes to see no results no matter what changes I make. (all changes were tested after deleting the cache and then changed back to what they should be).

Could you please advise on what changes/ updates need to be made to bring the sites appearance back to what it was (and what it still appears to be set to in the theme panel). site address http://www.sevenwanderers.com/

Owing to malware attacks, our hosting provider suggested upgrading wordpress and newspaper theme.

Accordingly, upgraded to wordpress 4.9.2 and deleted the previous newspaper theme and added the newspaper version 8.6

But now, unable to edit any page or create a new page.
Neither the Visual Composer nor the tagdiv TD composer work.

Visual composer issue- When I click on add element and then select any element, nothing happens. The Add Element window stays open with all the available element options. Clicking on any element has no effect.

TD Composer- it starts loading, but keeps loading permanently, nothing happens.

Please note that our website is live and this is a critical issue for us. Otherwise we will have to put the website in maintenance mode and move to another theme.

Hello,

Those images are the placeholders for the multi-purpose elements. They are required by the plugin, that is why they remain there. It is not malware. It is a needed implementation of these elements. Please do not delete these images.

Thank you!

Hello creamundo,

Unfortunately, we do not have any bad reports in this case with our theme. You should remove all of the untested plugins which can interfere with the theme core files and causes a lot of unknown issues. Clear all the caches and check the results. Please keep in mind that our theme comes without any kind of malware or virus if it was downloaded from the official platform – Envato Market – Theme Forest. Most likely, you have encountered such a malware or virus from another software or untested plugins which do not come with our theme and that’s why you bring these errors. Try to make a new clean install from scratch to another subdomain and check the results.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the message!

Hello pianoweb,

Please keep in mind that our theme has no infected with malware. To be sure, you should re-download the latest theme version for Theme Forest and make a new clean install from scratch via FTP way because this is the subject theme method in this case.

Thanks for the message!

Hello I have hacked 3 websites with newspaper, he stressed that the theme is original. The fact is that I got windows from a deceptive pub website called cloudfront.net and I do not know how to remove it, it used the wordfence plugin, Brute-Force Anti-Malware and the technical service of my server says that there is no virus in the server and the domain. But I get the popups as long as it is between them, Google Chrome and DATA (for wifi does not pass) is not my mobile (already formatted). Is it the case that reinstalling the template will be removed? Or can someone give me a clue? Thanks My web is: https://goo.gl/2X3ZDp

Bogdan, on one of my websites i still use version 4.6.3 which has security issue. I’m going to upgrade to version 7 or 8 soon, but now i have this problem with malware in custom Javascript area.
I tried to delete panel_custom_javascript.php file, but it didn’t help, i still continue getting this malware in that area.
Could you give me an advise how can i disable this area and not to get any scripts there untill i upgrade the theme version?

Hi,

The website could have security problems, if the code simply appears in the theme functions file without you entering it there. Please follow the suggestions from this topic concerning security
https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/tutorial-good-basic-security-practices/
https://codex.wordpress.org/Hardening_WordPress
Scan the website and database for malware using suggested methods. If you have a child theme, disable it. Deactivate all plugins and re-install the theme by FTP
https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
Then install only the plugins form the official theme package. Do not use any custom code in the theme panel sections, or directly in the theme files. Install security plugins that can help in these situations.

Thanks

Hi,

Please understand that we are not responsible for the issue with the website. We cannot access your website and place warnings such as the one you mention in this topic
https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/template-is-nulled-site-is-fake/
Or in fact take the website off. That is not possible, you might have been hacked.
Please follow the suggestions from the topic and try to identify what exactly has caused the problem. There are detailed steps to take in case of malware or hacking, and clear the issue.
Then re-install WordPress, theme and theme plugins from the official theme package.
Contact your hosting provider as well and explain the situation, they could be able to help you as well if there is a server side problem.
Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks

I don’t work here but try
a) check system panel; check registration page in theme panel
b) try disabling plugins to see if one is malware, hacked, whatever

Hello Chris S, 🙂

As I said above, I reinstalled a wordpress all clean, I then add the theme I downloaded from envato and then I added my plugins one by one (I scanned all these plugins on virustotal to be sure that there is no malware). And I see that today sucuri tells me that all is well! Coool ^^.

I think he had to remember my previous scan.

Otherwise I followed your topic on secure wordpress:

– I changed all my passwords by putting very strong passwords for my FTP account, my database and of course my wordpress account.

– During the wordpress installation all clean, I changed the table prefix which was wp_, which I think too sensitive. So I put 15 characters (uppercase, lowercase and number) before the “_”.

– I deleted ALL the plugins and theme that I do not use.

– I added a plugin that backs up my database and my ftp every day, and that sends it to me on drobox and a remote ftp.

– I also have a plugin that automatically updates ALL plugins updated if necessary.

– This morning I added a plugin named “WP Cerber”, which protects me well wordpress and blocked me attempts to intusions (131 ip blocked trying to access my wp-login page when I disabled it)

– I also have the plugin Shield Security, do you think there would be conflict in both ???

I think now I’m secure, what do you think?

I really want to thank you for the help you have been able to bring me

I followed your topic … really

I reinstalled a blank wordpress with the latest version 4.8.2, then I inserted your theme on it, I resumed everything, because with what you gave me I could not do anything, I always had the malware in my blog, so I started everything again, my blog was very small so it was much faster, with what you gave me I spent more than 15h trying to remove the malwares, without any result, but what I say about my previous message today is for a blank version of my blog

is it possible that sucuri guard does not remember the scan of the day since my blog?

You need to do all the steps in my security post, as even re-installing your theme and WP might not remove items in your ad boxes in theme panel, or in dbase. Those will still be there, so you need to do *all* the items from my post, or similar ones to ‘clean’ your site.

The theme itself has no malware. Your site itself has malware due to a bug in either older version of theme and/or insecure versions of WordPress core. So, when theme and WP not updated for security fix this allows your site, and possibly database to be hacked with malware.

Items in your database are not part of the theme files you download from ThemeForest.

Site might have been hacked, be sure to check it completely for issues:

https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/tutorial-good-basic-security-practices/

If it’s only one page; try removing links to any other sites on that one page which may lead to “malware” or compromised sites — as this will then impact YOUR site.

Read the instructions from Google search console completely.

Theme cannot control what content you actually put on your website, obviously.
