Hello,
More options will come with future updates of the theme. I will add your suggestion to our list and hopefully in a future update we will be able to implement such a feature.
Thank you for your suggestion.
Hello mrueda,
Please make sure you have the correct version of visual composer plugin. Please update your theme to the latest version and install just the visual composer version from the theme panel: http://screencast.com/t/EHD7QGAq0Ysf
As for the error, it comes from the ubermenu plugin. Try to disable all your plugins except visual composer and check the issue again.
Thank you
Hi,
Please make sure you use the latest version of the theme 6.5.1 and check this guide if you need to update – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ If you already use the latest version make sure you have update the theme properly, no old theme’s files remain. It should not be any issues as the theme is tested with Woocommerce plugin.
Thanks!
Hi,
I have a question regarding the implementation of a directory.
I’m hoping to implement a business directory (my site is about home improvement and I’d like to include a business directory in the newspaper theme), and I’d like to know if that is a function you guys will be implementing one day in Newspaper ? Would this happen in a future update or not at all?
Otherwise I found that plugin http://codecanyon.net/item/sabai-directory-plugin-for-wordpress/4505485 and would know by any chance if this one has already been tested newspaper theme?
Thanks for your feedback

Hello
we just realize that when choosing “random posts from last 7 days” on block filter
if we do not have any new posts on last 7days, there will be no posts shown at all
will it be nice to have “random posts from last **updated** 7 days”
thanks
On separate note;
If running Akismet with comments on, be sure to update THAT asap; as major security issue.
Chris,
To add —
I know you don’t agree – But I think this is where a child theme would help. Instead of reapplying customizations to several files, one would only need to make changes to the files that were updated.
In this current update none of my modified files were updated so a child theme would save me from having to redo everything. I guess I could just FTP a back up of the 10 or so files that weren’t updated.
Is this advisable? I want to make sure things don’t get out of wack.
Chris,
Thanks for your feedback.
With all the updates how does your team or you handle constantly having to reapply customization, especially if there are major ones.
Well, theme doesn’t automatically change your pages.
So, might be issue with any auto-updates you have running, or issue with CDN, etc.
Hopefully you installed the Akismet update if you’re using that with comments turned on, as that is major security patch announced overnight.
Theme doesn’t have security issues, but plugins might that you’re using.
REMINDER:
both Visual Composer needed to be updated last week — major security flaw.
AND the Akismet plugin need to be updated for major security flaw.
Site can be hacked from both of those.
Also, an email was sent last week saying there was update to Newspaper. If you don’t have this email turned on, you can do so from the downloads menu for your TF account.
You can download the recent update from your Themeforest account for Newsapaper “all files”, and inside the Newspaper-tf folder (after download to your PC), you will see a plugins folder; inside that will be the updated and secured version of js-composer you need to upload over/replace the older one on your web server.
Due to all the security changes this year in WP, which are ongoing (Akismet identified this week as major security issue, allowing commenters to hack your site!), the best plan is this:
a) make changes to the core theme files (not child theme)
b) keep track of changes made, files, line number, code snippets changed where
c) to update, download new theme version, apply your mods to same files, replace old theme folder with the new version with your replicated mods;
d) if something fails, go back to the backup
Not much TagDiv or anybody can do about ongoing security patches to the Visual Composer plugin — TagDiv doesn’t make that, nor do the theme devs around the world bundling that as groovy cool way to do page layouts.
Sadly, WordPress and all the pieces which fit together have been going through major upheaval this year — and it’s good for security, but seriously you have to get annoyed when the anti-spam tool causes your site to be hacked from comments containing “emojis” which you can’t disable in WP without adding code to the functions.php file. Sheesh.
Anyway– just some feedback. Wasn’t trying to annoy or shoot you down, just some feedback that it’s not just you; WP has been a pain in the arse this year.
I’m counting something like 100+ updates since Spring on some of our sites for WP, Akismet, Yoast, Visual Composer, etc., due to security vulnerabilities. Wild.
Theme updates are becoming a problem especially if there are customization made to certain files.
From what I understand the last theme update – updated Visual Composer, however multiple files reverted any changes I made to them.
How do I go about updating the theme without losing my changes. This is frustrating and I do not recall at all having these issues with other themes.
It it not feasible to have to redo all the custom coding again and not updating the files doesn’t seem like an option because there could be important changes that I could be missing by excluding them from the update.
How can I update the theme without losing my changes?
Hi
i received an email from codecanyon saying to update visual composer
It says to just replace js_composer folder with the new free download
Will this work with newspaper6?
where is that folder?
thx
Hey,
Installed the theme and this message appeared:
wp booster error:Please update your [tagDiv social counter] Plugin!
I deleted the plugin several times, re-uploaded it from the files bought from Envato and nothing. Activated it via theme dashboard and nothing.
Please help
🙂
I usually have to hack couple things for header, author template (remove comment count), 404 template, remove remote loading google fonts, add some stuff to functions.php, and minify the CSS, and make one change the default hit counter field to match our pre-existing field name “views” — so not too hideous; most of the rest is done with CSS.
In our case, just safer to get update, make mods to update work folder; then upload that to replace old version; check all works; if not roll back.
Fairly safe way to live without “hoping” updates will work (color me paranoid!) 🙂
Hi Thanks for the advice. It certainly loads faster with out the Lazy Load on the front page. I still have the other issues of the tweet/count button taking to long to load and that all the social buttons have gone from the front page excerpts since the upgrade….they were working fine until the update. The tweet button takes about 6 seconds to load look at this post for an idea.

The plugin maker would like to speak to you about a code or hook to insert..how can they contact you. The plugin in question is one of the biggest social share plugins available and is Easy Social Share. It is supplied via Code Canyon. Their contact details are Apps Creoworx <appscreo@gmail.com>
Hey Chris,
Don’t apologise for butting in. This is personally my first experience with Child Themes as usually I’d edit the “main” theme as it were, but times before I’d tweaked so much, updates usually broke the site, leaving me to either revert to a previous version, or just to refuse to update the theme entirely.
I may consider your approach as I’ve barely touched this theme due to its many customisation options.
Thanks!
Sorry to butt in, but in my experience this is exactly why I don’t use child themes as they may change over time with major updates and kind of defeats the purpose.
You might consider modifying the “main” theme for customizations, and simply keep track of the files/folder and ‘snippets’ (e.g., line xxx, block of code) in text files, so you can replicate that after an update.
This is what I do, and proves more “consistent” and limits site failure and debugging due to the main/child being out of sync.
With all the functional changes to WP of the past year, this has proven to be even more true.
Sorry, editorial over 🙂
Yes, those screenshots represent the area I am working on. I can see, based on your screenshots, that the Visual Composer has not changed their options. So I don’t know what changed. I just know that prior to the latest update (which is AWESOME!), the most current events displayed first. I’m guessing that a lot of people who use the Newspaper theme have also been using The Events Calendar plugin, so if we can figure this out, it will probably be helpful to many of us. I am also requesting help in the forums of The Events Calendar.
Thank you for your help.
Hi,
The best way is to update to the latest version to make sure that your modifications will not create issues and check this guide how to optimize your speed and requirements for Newspaper theme – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-make-the-site-faster/ as I have checked your site on pagespeed tool and you have to do some fix even if you use 6.1 – http://screencast.com/t/8jz2iWZetX
This sort order was designed to work exactly like the jetpack stats(2 days), the plugin’s API doesn’t support that.
Also I how the Shim version will help.
Thanks!
Hello,
It means you have an older version of the theme that did not contain those 2 post types yet.
If you want to use them, please update your theme following this guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
Thank you!
Final update:
Good news. I’ve fixed the problem.
It seems the new version of Newsmag has an updated td_module_single_base.php which is different to the one I’ve been using in the Child Theme. The reason I have that file in the child theme is because I followed this tutorial to hide the ads on a per-post basis:
https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/function-to-hide-ads-and-function-to-show-author/
I have since copied the updated td_module_single_base.php and re-applied the above code found in the tutorial and things are back to normal.
I understand that this may be a totally incorrect use of the Child Theme, but it works! If you have any advice on how to better implement these changes then please let me know: aaron@n3rdabl3.co.uk
Okay,
I forgot to mention that I’m currently using the Child Theme (as we’ve added a few customisations to the footer and functions.php)! I activated the main theme and found that the Featured Images have returned. I also discovered that deactivating all of the plugins (but Visualiser) caused the site to white-screen, so we’re looking into that at the moment.
It seems it’s entirely likely that some code we added to the Child Theme files have conflicted with the Featured Image. We’ll do some digging and update the post accordingly. Alternatively, I could send over the Child Theme files (via the email address you provided) to discuss things in more detail?
