Since the v3 update I’ve been having difficulty going through editing all the files to revert back to the format I had pre-v3.
I want to remove the ‘by’ before the author name, as well as the ‘-‘ that goes after the author name.

Hey guy, I love the theme and I have a small suggestion.
I’d be willing to pay for a simple, integrated solution to A/B test Adsense Positions & Sizes (Variations within the same article across different platforms) from the theme panel.
In traditional A/B testing I need to set up separate pages (which can not be done with my article posts since they are SEO-ed separately).
Please consider this either as an integrated feature or plugin. I believe it will greatly benefit all your users since it can be used with opt-in forms, widgets etc.
Hopefully something like this will show up in the updates list! Keep up the great work!
Usually it’s a permission problem in not being able to write to the media folder, if I’m reading that right?
I *have* had an issue twice now with the latest version of WP, where I go to upload a file and it tells me “sorry – can’t do that right now” … which never happened up until this latest version of WP. Wait 2 minutes and it works. Almost like WP is busy doing something like checking for an update or something.
If you’re saying you have uploaded photos via the media manager, and they are not “findable” when you go to create a post, that isn’t an issue with the theme – if you can find the images using the default theme. If you’re uploading images via FTP to a media folder – WP can’t find images that way as it’s not in the dbase; you’d have to add the files via URL to the media library.

I have the same issue. Some posts don’t need an author bio under the article.
Mabye it’s possible in a future update to make a checkbox in “Post settings” to show or hide the author bio for that specific article?

you may want to read through the entire pagespeed topic (big sticky top of the forum), as all of this has been well covered there.
Generally you can’t do anything about things like addthis (although I did post a hack to load that in async mode), or jetpack – as those load on other servers and will show up as errors when you run pagespeed analytics. If it’s not loading off your site, it will likely show up as an error of some kind – this includes recaptcha, adsense ads, etc.
Not sure what you mean about looking at source code of theme vs source code of the page — the theme code is not rendered while the code on your site is rendered with all the stuff coming from dbase and external and queries, etc. If you’re trying to compare the “demo” to your pages, that may not work either. You should follow the instructions to setup the cache (remember you need to CLEAR cache every time you change things like htaccess, new plugin, etc.), the speed booster, the page expires time.
For realistic speed – test without addthis, adsense, or jetpack. Then put that stuff back and decide how much impact you want to have on your site. I use addthis for social buttons on one site, and then the theme stuff on another. I don’t use jetpack as it’s slow and I hate loading stuff from a mothership that isn’t my own. I limit number of ads on page (4 ads will be slow if images!) – try loading text only ads, to speed up page!
But a *lot* of this, if not all, has been covered in the pagespeed topic. So, best to start there, and remember it’s virtually impossible to get above 91-93 in desktop with a busy site, lots of pix, wordpress theme, external stuff. Mobile will be slower, no matter what you do. 76+ isn’t too awful right now. 80+ is goal. 65 would be awful. To really optimize for mobile requires making a version of page which most newspaper sites won’t do, and that is mostly text, one picture, minimal navigation, etc.
Google sadly doesn’t differentiate from “tablet friendly” and “iphone friendly.” SO, I’ve stopped crying over trying for a perfect score on phones — it’s not my primary audience. Tablets are, then desktop.
Anyway… that might not help. But
1) set cache to page cache ONLY
2) don’t use any minification stuff until you have speed booster plugin working right
3) make sure your htaccess has expires headers
4) make sure your web server is doing gzip/deflate
5) optimize your images prior to upload; if possible use my hack to increase compression level for thumbnails (or use smush.it or similar; I prefer to edit my functions.php file to change compression to “50”)
6) run your speed tests
7) turn off anything you don’t absolutely NEED if you’re seeking highest score
8) test and retest
THEME UPDATES:
I find it’s best to fully over-write the old theme with NEW theme folder each time, via FTP. I’ve had mixed results with “patching” over the past 10 years with WP sites, and more often than not they break somewhere due to permissions.
Frankly, it’s good habit, since you can also download a full snapshot via FTP before you do an update, to ensure you have a full snapshot. I date and RAR mine here for archival purposes.
The mobile score is better ;). But in the screenshots appears empty the mobile screen :S
In w3 total cache i only check the Page Cache in the general settings tab or i need make more changes in the other tabs?

The thing that appear in the list are of jetpack pluging, contact-form, and things of the theme. The screenshots in mobile test only show the menu with any format, and in the desktop text the screen was empty.
I compare the source code of the theme demo with the souce code of my page and its too different. :S. I think this theme is too complicated to config correctly to improve the speed. Its necessary a guide to config the plugins like the theme demo, with the same options, then each user could comment your personal issues. If in the demo has been changed .htaccess for improve the speed and changed a w3 total cache, i think its necessary a guide because the speed of theme is one of best things that it have. If you make a bad config of this items, the theme is slowly like another themes.
Another question, i update the theme with the patch folder, is better reinstall all theme or is the same? I tell this because one of the updates was “clean code” and in my <head> there are a lot of code, more than in the theme demo and another pages that the people put here in the other posts :S

We messed up with this feature request… everything worked out wrong… when I tried to implement it (like 4 months ago), it didn’t worked so I’ve added to the issue tracked where it was buried by a lot of other requests. Your messages didn’t reach me but a colleague … etc.
we have more than 130 feature requests and issues on our todo lists and unfortunately we always have to pick what we implement…. we cannot implement all of the requests due to time constraints and usability constraints 😐 . We are all working full time only on this theme.
it will take me some time (1 – 2 days) until I deploy the new version on themeforest because I was in the middle of a major update and I have to roll back the version to fix this. The new version will have comments on pages (the comments will have to be enabled via the theme panel)
@tadpubco – the patch probably didn’t work because you are using another page template or another theme version? I’ve tested it locally and it worked here.
@idyllo – the patch is not final yet. I made it fast but there may still be issues with it.
Please give us another chance, we will make it right and I’m sorry for all the issues.

Thought I’d share a great tool with you all. I found this YouTube wordpress plugin from CodeCanyon that I use as a bulk youtube video importer.

To use it properly, you will need to add two functions, one in the parent theme and one in any child theme that you are using. I used the code the plugin developers provided in the documentation and modified it for the Newspaper theme to make it compatible with the plugin.
Once done, the import feature save a tremendous amount of time going to YouTube and searching for stuff to put into the site. With the function additions, the YouTube videos will be imported directly as your posts.

Hi, Really like your theme, really excellent.
I’ve just updated to the newspaper theme from a previous theme which had the latest version of visual composer installed as a plugin. Unfortunately the Newspaper theme uses an older version of VC doesn’t have some of the widgets I previously used. In particular the carousel slider isn’t present.
I understand that at at future date you are planning to update VC, which is cool, but right now I need a solution. The inbuilt revolution slider is overkill for just a simple slide-show, and adding most other WordPress plugins available I’ve checked out just adds code bloat and complexity. Therefore could you recommend a lightweight slider solution that would fit into your responsive theme, or is it worth waiting till the next update?
