Hi, mod_spdy is setup on the server; https is setup on your domain (Google “get SSL cert for my website”) or visit the SSL certificates section in your GoDaddy account if you use them for anything. You need to get SSL cert which is installed for your domain, this then allows your site pages to load via https (secure) vs http just like any ecom site or Amazon, GoDaddy, eBay, etc. The “signed” certificate provides some level of security in that a “signing authority” has verified you are who you say you are before issuing the certificate (your hosting provider may even sell SSL certs at discount; check their site).

Mod_spdy doesn’t do SEO or speed up normal http pages, only those loaded via https (secure). Hence “spdy” (short for “speedy”).

So:
1) get SSL cert for your site; this allows pages and content to load https vs http
2) check with your hosting provider on mod_spdy support which speeds up https so it’s not 10x slower than http

SSL and mod_spdy have nothing to so with the theme. SSL authenticates the website domain, not the content itself per se, although you would get a “warning” if some content is not loaded securely, like an external file not being loaded via SSL.

HI, I was posting a reply yesterday (Sat. 8/30) when I could no longer reach the forum via my ISP for some reason, or the site went down. Basically I hit submit and could no longer reach website all day night!

I don’t combine images using css sprites, they are as they were by default. Cloudflare is great, for now I’m using it anyway but I’ve planned to buy cdn and ssl cert, once I start earning. 😀

First of all, the render blocking css warning was full of me using @import to separate CSS files on that product directory. As soon as I removed them and used a different method, it was completely gone.

The theme had some images that weren’t optimized. So, I downloaded and reduced the quality of them and then uploaded it to the server again. Also, I use WPSmush.It on the website.

As you suggested to download and use a minifier, i did it. I used both of this websites:
cssminifier.com and http://javascript-minifier.com/ – IT works great and I minified only files which were more than 3,000KB.

Its worth noting that the score drastically improved as soon as I downloaded the fonts from Google and uploaded them to my server and then added them to the Custom Font section. — I was surprised by the improvement. (Thanks Christopher for this tip!)

It isn’t possible to get 98 cause the thing is, almost all of us are using Google AdSense and it is slowing the website down. Try without AdSense and you should get 100/100 😉

I know that but the thing is, some website are getting 97 with AdSense and Shareholic turned on. For example, one of the forum member, Shashank has ads on his website and shareoholic as well but he has 97. (http://www.styzic.com/). I guess you have AdSense and you do have a brilliant page speed…How is it possible, then? :/ Please help.

I’ve been tweaking PageSpeed on a daily basis since we setup our new web server last December (or rather, I started last year on this topic, but then ran into needing new web server in order to run mod_pagespeed). We run a mix of both WordPress and old-school shtml sites, and so it’s been a challenge to optimize some things for both, especially on our main business website where we have 15 years of static content, wordpress ‘blog’ and then new area for content using wordpress, plus ecommerce area, all on one domain. Fun times! 🙂

I’m super happy with Newspaper, as the devs have been one of the *few* WP devs who understand that it’s not good anymore to have 12 js files and 5 css files linked from every page. One theme I looked at the other day “required” a child theme, and had 15+ js/css files, and one loaded from the child theme not the parent theme. Really nice theme, but very badly architected for modern PageSpeed.

So, in case I haven’t said so lately to Radu and co. BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!

@JBH glad you get some good so far out the plugin,well you just have to look for those JS & CSS files and exclude them as well..at this time i can’t tell you which files those are because i’m not having those issues, speedbooster is working great so far and i did not had to exclude any files of mine..have you update the speedbooster to the latest version because the author made a lot changes in the plugin since then…but my advice will be go to the wordpress website and post in the support forum for this speedbooster plugin the author will help you much better then me…

I actually thought the speed booster plugin was supposed to do that, but I’ve not been working on page speed for our magazine website lately; been working on redoing our main business site which pays the bills — so, dunno on that last one, sorry.

Hi, looks like setting proper folder permissions on your site really helped to start 🙂

But, looking at your example post page you have a LOT of work to do.

most of your errors have nothing to do with the theme; so you’re going to want to address all that stuff first. Possibly find better solutions for what you’re doing with some of those external systems. Basically you’re loading too many things from external sites, which will lower your scores; more than 5 external things is bad for speed.

For example – this is crazy:
This page has 29 external Javascript scripts. Try combining them into one. This page has 13 external stylesheets. Try combining them into one. This page has 7 external background images. Try combining them with CSS sprites.

Note you can’t do much about the stuff you’re loading from other sites/servers, but you should
1) remove “versioning” — implement the .htaccess (if running Apache) and functions.php suggestions which I’ve posted, especially for the remove of the version tags. If running child theme you may need to put in child version; not sure on that.
2) optimize javascript delivery; use the td speed booster plugin to help with theme resources; but it won’t help with external stuff you’re loading
3) you cant do anything about the image dimensions of the things being loaded off external websites
4) prefer async – you’d have to hack whatever plugin you’re using for Facebook to load that as async
5) optimize images – be sure what you upload is already as small as possible; also use something like smushit or similar; possibly use my functions.php code for setting smaller default compression size for WordPress built in function (e.g., change from default 90 to 6); then do regenerate thumbnails — boom everything 20% smaller!
7) consistent URL errors coming from your “leadpages” stuff
8) vary encoding errors – coming mostly from leadpages
9) redirect issues – whatever you’re doing with Facebook and Google generating errors
10) bad request with favicon

Hi,
first you can’t do anything about the cache validation or anything with fonts loading off of google’s website, or anything loading from jetpack (or adsense, or addthis, or disqus, etc.) — as those elements live on somebody else’s server. Only solution is to remove them or workaround them (e.g., load google fonts on your site or CDN, or load the CSS from your own style sheet — you can google how to do this, as it’s a trick which has been used for couple of years — simply grab the CSS you’re loading from google for the fonts, then put it into your own CSS, then remove the “call” to that CSS from your style.css and/or functions.php).

For the remove query strings I would suggest this:
1) turn off all your plugins
2) make sure you put the remove query code at bottom of your functions.php file and have uploaded to server properly, replacing original file
3) test a post page and see if it’s working – it should work, unless you have conflicting element re-writing your code. Or, you didn’t put the code in right place with something else you’ve added to the functions.php file, or you have a missing or extra closing bracket (bad syntax). There are couple of ways to do this, but again – double check your code/syntax, which is #1 reason something doesn’t work – be careful what you copy/paste FROM … always use a proper plain text editor so it won’t introduce garbage characters.
4) start turning on plugins: pay close attention to any SEO plugin which may try to rewrite the css and js “positions” in the file
5) avoid using plugins which do the same thing – seo plugin with sitemap, and other sitemap plugin; seo plugin which rewrites location of your js and css and the tagdiv speed booster
6) once you find the conflicting plugin, you can sort out what to do for the version removal to work (and don’t have that in functions *and* use a version removal plugin at same time, AND an SEO plugin that rewrites your code AND the tagdiv speedbooster).

This is normal process to “debug” why something doesn’t work.

I’m still not happy with the pagespeed on http://www.dailycat.de even I have optimized it quite a bit. Thus I set up google analytics page speed tracking. Maybe the results are interesting for the tagdiv team.

Mobile devices and especially tablet devices load much slower than desktop. I know, gsm and edge connection aren’t the best, however maybe its reasonable to load smaller images and reduce page heaviness for mobile devices.

Second, there are some mobile devices which are much slower than others. especially android mobile. The followeing screen is the page load time compared to the websites average. I think it may be worth taking a look at the page speed performance of safari and mobile android browser, since the amount of people using them are significant.

2.Use PHP to serve cache files
3. Compress pages so they’re served more quickly to visitors. (Recommended)
4.Make known users anonymous so they’re served supercached static files.

Hey @Cherry yes you have to change ur host nameservers to cloudflare ones,to change the nameservers u have to go in ur host DNS settings and look for there name servers and put cloudflare ones ::

Hi Radu, i checked out the php error log and found out that it was both of the td_speed_booster and td_social_counter plugins. This was happening because i transferred the website with latest version of theme but the plugins were outdated and not working correctly. But there’s a problem. I have to migrated the website and the themeforest’s servers are not working and i am unable to download the full theme files. The server hangs after merely reaching to 70%.
Please give me both of the plugins.zip file over dropbox please because it is necessary.
