Hi,
I have recently switched to Newspaper and I am experiencing some issues I cannot fix.
This is the website https://templatetester.com.
Here are the issues I have:
1. Speed – With the previous template (from Studio Press) my speed on Google Page Speed tool was over 90. After implementing Newspaper it dropped to 40. I tried to change sevral settings but speed doesn’t improve. Any idea why such a difference in performances? Is it due to the theme?
2. Header – Logo is very small. How can I make it larger? I tried to adjust it from the template builder but with no result.
3. Header – This is an issue that happens from time to time on the Italian version of the site. When I scroll down, an empty blue bar appears below the sticky menu.
4.Footer – I have widgets in the footer that I have no idea where they are from. From the widget menu, I have only 2 widgets set. However, as you can see from the website, in the footer I have “Editor Picks”, “Popular Posts”, “Popular categories” plus a logo and an “About Us” and “Follow Us” at the very bottom of the footer.
How do I clean the footer?
Thx
Hello !
Firstly please make sure that all the theme requirements are met: https://forum.tagdiv.com/requirements-for-newspaper/ If not follow the steps found there to meet all the requirements.
Also take a look at this tutorial regarding page speeed increase: https://tagdiv.com/how-to-increase-page-loading-speed/
Please make sure that you upload your logo at it’s full size: https://www.screencast.com/t/bPR9afpS3xl
For the header bar use this css code: `.td-header-style-12 .td-header-menu-wrap-full {
height: 90px;
}`
The code must be pasted here: https://www.screencast.com/t/J1Nxw5s5
The footer part where you have editor picks cannot be edited but you can choose from a lot of option found in Theme Panel – Footer. Also the Footer info can be edited from there too.
Thank you !
Hello !
You can use a footer from the Cloud library or one from here: https://www.screencast.com/t/gO3i3kHy
There are different footer styles and you can change from there to see wich one suits you !
Thank you !
Hi Vlad,
I have checked the system requirements you specified. The only setting not compliant was PHP that has now been updated to 7.2. All the other requirements are superior to the minimum requirement.
After updating the PHP, the speed dropped even more. According to Google Speed insight, the website went from 38/39 to 36/37. Just a minor difference but not an improvement as well.
I have deactivated more plugins but with no results. It is very strange since with the previous theme and more plugins active my speed never dropped below 90.
For your reference, the website is on Cludflare and I have the following active plugins: Autoptimize, Async JavaScript, Breeze, Webcraftic Clearfy and WP Super Cache.
Any clue if there is some conflict here? Do you have any idea why after installing Newspaper the speed dropped so dramatically?
Thx for your help
Hi,
Please notice that the speed of your website depends on how well your site is optimized.
Notice that is not a simple task and if you do not have any experience in this regard you will do not bring good results for the theme. Also, notice that we have a speed optimization tutorial but this is addressed only to advanced users. So, if you follow the steps which are presented in this tutorial here -> https://tagdiv.com/how-to-increase-page-loading-speed/
There are many optimization guides provided by our users here in the forum, some made by us, you could check some of them

Hi Calin,
Thanks for your reply. Even though I am not a super expert I have some experience in this regard. In fact, I was able to optimize by myself the website when the previous theme was installed as well as other websites I own.
My question is not to blame Newspaper, in fact, I have used this theme many times even for other websites and I have always been quite happy with it. This is the reason why I have decided to switch from the previous Studio Press theme to Newspaper.
I just want to know if it could be that some plugins or settings I have are conflicting with the theme. You may agree that going from a score of over 90 with old theme to just 36/37 is quite a big difference in speed and it all happened as soon as I have installed the new theme.
I went through the guide you shared just to double check if something was missing or misplaced but everything looks quite fine apart from the speed.
Hi,
Yes, is possible that the plugins that you have activate to slow the speed, also the images/videos etc can slow the speed, but from what I can see the speed of your website is increasing now http://prntscr.com/oox0mm -> https://gtmetrix.com/reports/templatetester.com/eqn8uSwM -> http://prntscr.com/oox1m9 -> https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=https%3A%2F%2Ftemplatetester.com%2F&tab=desktop but there is still need some improves to increase the speed.
Also our developers are working for a new version of the Newspaper theme that will be more light and faster, is possible that in this moment our theme to be a lite big because have a lots of features on two planes ( default and cloud ), I think that in the coming updates this problem will be solved.
Thank you for your understanding!
