I think that you don’t have that line because you don’t use the last theme(1.5). You can update the theme and after that uncomment that line.

1. They are using a plugin for social share. we haven’t tested the theme with share plugins so I can’t recommend one and also guarantee it will work fine without creating any issues. I think they are using this one: https://wordpress.org/plugins/hupso-share-buttons-for-twitter-facebook-google/

2. You have to edit td_module_single.php and add the button or replace a button that you don’t use. Take a reference google plus button and try to create your button: http://screencast.com/t/k1kifke2NhQF

Unfortunately the newspaper theme doesn’t an option for that at the moment, you could try to use a plugin for that. You will need custom modifications for that, so you can always get a freelancer from sites like: http://studio.envato.com/ if you don’t know how to do it yourself. We cannot offer custom work because we work hard on the development, updates, fixes and support.

If you have images smaller than 745x483px you need to use a plugin like like Thumbnail Upscale for that: https://wordpress.org/plugins/thumbnail-upscale/ as WordPress cannot enlarge thumbnails, only make them smaller.
