I took early retirement to build a progressive media operation for the state of Kentucky. I'm using Newspaper as my theme, as the features it provides save me a lot of time and manual coding.

Same problem here. Was NOT getting admin-ajax hits on home page, but saw it on post pages. Turned off the Ajax view counter, and it went away on the page I checked.

We also had to move to a higher hosting plan due to the CPU hit on admin-ajax. And, we hit the ceiling of that plan as well. And that was with the Heartbeat Control installed and completely turned off.

Thank you for the reply.

So, the second part of my question is correct, as well. We have to make changes to the theme itself, keep a record of them, and re-make them whenever the theme is updated.

I understand your team’s need to deal with Envato’s requirements, since that is your sales channel. But the loss of child themes is a major setback, in my opinion. I hope you find out a way to fix this in the future, either by reimplementing child themes or by adding some sort of functionality into the theme itself that allows customizations and then remembers them during theme updates.

Thanks!

OK, before I go to the trouble of setting up a child theme so I can make changes to functions.php, I want to be sure I understand:

If I set up a child theme, none of the cloud templates will work? Is that correct?

And if that’s the case, and child themes no longer make sense with Newspaper, how should we implement customizations? Make them in the main files, keep a list of the changes we’ve made, and then make them again whenever there is an update?

I went back to the theme panel and worked my way through all the templates, turning off the sidebar in each. I think that has taken care of it. Thanks!

BruceInLouisville

So — don’t use a child theme?

Or — the only thing to include in your child theme is functions.php, which will then override the parent functions.php?

What about changes to modules, blocks, etc?

I will try re-installing.

And I’m still not being clear enough about my social share problem. I WANT to use the ones from the plugin, and not the tagdiv ones. I have the social sharing turned off in the theme panel, but the ones in the template continue to show up. Do I have to edit the template itself to get them to go away?

(Same is true for Related Posts, which I don’t want, and Previous/Next, which I also don’t want.)

BTW — I have all the sharing options turned off under Post Settings – Sharing.

Here is a preview link to a page using the template. It is Single Post 35.

Still not sure I’m getting through on the second question. I am using a plugin for the social sharing buttons, and I don’t want the buttons to show up. Do I have to clear all the social sharing URLs in the theme panel to make them go away?

BruceInLouisville

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, it doesn’t address my questions.

1. I know how to use the templates. I have already downloaded a number of them. ONE of them only shows a black screen.

2. I already have the social sharing disabled in the theme panel, yet the social sharing buttons are still showing. Why?

An additional note: In the text editor, not only is the various A characters being substituted, but apparently other upper-ASCII characters are being added as well.

At this point, even though I really like the look of the page, I’m going to abandon using the tagdiv composer and do a plainer page using the regular editor.

Yes, I know how to add a caption, and for now, that is what I do.

BUT, there are two problems:
– On a regular image, there is not a way to customize the attribution differently from the caption (as far as I know). The caption is already italic, which would be the normal attribution treatment.
– And, on the tagdiv gallery, there is no way to separate the caption from the attribution either. On the gallery, especially, it would be very nice to have the caption larger, and the attribution separate and smaller. As it is, I have to put the attribution inside the caption, which really looks ugly.

So, I’m back to asking for a separate field that could be used in both regular image inserts AND in the gallery. Thanks!

Want to add my request for this feature. A separate field, that could be formatted differently via CSS, would be idea. I’m using the Caption field, which is okay, but it leads to some weird issues, especially in galleries.

Huh — seems to have cleared up on its own.

As I said, I thought it was about clearing up unused widgets. I guess it got them all cleared up. 🙂

Same error, but not using Visual Composer.

I’ve got three of them, all under the footer:

wp_booster error:
td_api_base::mark_used_on_page : a component with the ID: tdm_sub_footer_template_1 is not set.
/home/forwardk/public_html/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/includes/wp_booster/td_api.php

wp_booster error:
td_api_base::get_key : a component with the ID: tdm_sub_footer_template_1 Key: file is not set.

Excellent! Did exactly what I wanted. Thank you!

Please mark this one closed, and the customer happy. 🙂

And also to change the color within the title box?

BruceInLouisville
tagDiv Member

Sorry to reply to this topic, but for the moment I cannot seem to find the location to start a new topic.

Question: For the Image Box element in TD Composer, what CSS would I add and where would it add it to move the title box to the bottom of the image?

Or, is there a different element I could use that would have the title at the bottom (or top, I suppose)?

If there is not a way, I suppose I can edit each image individually and add the title myself at the bottom. But, thought I would ask first. Thanks!

BruceInLouisville

Well, never mind. I logged out in Safari, and logged back in, and the problem is gone.

Wierd.

If it happens again, I’ll be back. 🙂

So, two follow-up questions:

1. I’m using the default page template, but NOT the tagdiv composer. I am getting a page title. I assume that is because I am not using the tagdiv composer?

2. Is there a place on the page, or a way, to add CSS to just this page? I’ve seen that in other themes, but cannot find it for this one.

Thanks!

I have to say, I’m disappointed in both the content and the tone of your reply. I understand that you cannot do troubleshooting on every plugin that comes along; but as I noted earlier, Thrive Leads is a major company in the WordPress world. To simply throw them under the bus as if they are some kid in his mother’s basement strikes me as a fairly cavalier attitude.

Since this has now come up more than once in the forum, I also thought that you might want to explore further why it is happening, and perhaps give the many of us who use Thrive some indication as to where to look.

I am still quite happy with the theme, as I posted elsewhere. Less happy, at this point, with the support.

I will now go to the Thrive support site, and hope that they have some ideas.

I agree — it would be nice to be able to choose the social media accounts to include (via dropdown?). Some of us have multiple accounts of one channel associated with our site. (I have two Twitter accounts, for example.) Of course, that would mean labeling them in some way, I suppose.

BTW — I didn’t see a place to mark this as Resolved, so would you please do so for me?

BruceInLouisville

Bingo! That last tip did the trick; I hadn’t been selecting the size in the media library.

I was able to take Style 10, customize it some to look like Style 3, and get the logo to the right size. Looks good in the browser and in the mobile theme as well. Thank you!

BTW — loving the theme. Still getting used to it, but already like it better than the other (paid) theme I had been using.
