Thanks. When tagDiv Composer was launched I had already designed my posts and pages using WPBakery… at some point when I have time I should switch over. In Composer can I design a square block without having to code it myself? Or would that require coding on my part?

Hi, Catalin. For now I only use VC because I built my posts and pages in VC, and I don’t have time right now to reformat all of them. When I have time, I will do that and switch to TD Composer. Any idea why the VC video player is not working with the plugin enabled?

Hey, one other thing re: my question about adding an H1 header on my custom home page. I added one as we talked about and then ran it through browseo.net. But I saw that there was already an H1 on that page — it does recognize the page title as H1 even though there’s no slug. Or maybe I misunderstood what you told me… Anyhow, I took out the H1 I added and there’s only the page title H1 now…

Simion, sorry but I’m confused. In this other reply you just gave, you say I should create a child theme. (https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/google-rich-cards-and-json-ld-markup/#post-190275) But here you’re saying I can just add the JSON-LD markup to the individual post.

Doesn’t Newspaper automatically add the Articles markup to every post? What I’d like to do is keep that, but just change the markup on some posts. Is there a way to change some but still keep the Newspaper “Articles” markup for all the others?

Can you tell me step by step what is the best way to markup some posts without changing the main theme files? Or is that impossible?

Hi, Chris. On a separate note, would you be willing to check out this thread I started and weigh in if you have time? Basically I’m interested in adding some schema markup to posts, but it looks like Newspaper will override them every time I update it. I’m wondering if you add markup to posts and how you get around this? Also, I’m new to this markup stuff. Could I add it to the header code for the post in the editing panel? I’ve been researching this for days and can’t yet find anyone who shows exactly how to insert it (and the plugins I’ve found so far offer a very limited number of markup categories).

Hi, Simion. When you mark a post as a review, does it add the JSON-D schema markup to it?

Have either of you added the schema markup for recipes and then checked to see if it was retained after you updated the theme? I’ve been asking about this on another thread. I was told that any changes we make to the theme will be overwritten every time the theme is updated. The impression I’ve gotten is that these markup changes will be overwritten.

Also, how exactly are you adding the recipe markup? I was using a recipe plugin in the past, but it was creating duplicate content. When I deleted it and formatted my recipes myself by creating a template, they started ranking higher (e.g., if you search “low fat marble cake” on Google desktop mine ranks at number 1 now). But I’m concerned because on mobile they rank lower and I think it’s partly because I don’t have the recipe markup…

Does this add the schema markup for recipes? I’ve been noticing recently that Google seems to be ranking recipes with the markup much higher on mobile searches…

So…

1) It sounds like if I add schema markup to posts and pages, the theme updates will overwrite them. Did I understand that correctly?

2) If #1 is true, how do you suggest people add schema markup? Do they have to make a child theme first?

3) and… Now that I already have my site up and running, should I be switching to creating a child theme? I’d rather not, but I’m worried about not having a way to add the schema markup.

4) When I make Tagdiv recommended changes to increase my site speed, will those get overwritten with every new update of the theme?

Hi, Chris. I’m a big fan of yours on the Tagdiv forum. You always give such great answers! I was actually checking out your website the other day — the one on your Tagdiv forum profile. Is that still active? I saw a 2013 date and wondered if you have a new site for your biz. I could use some help getting my site up to speed (literally). Are you for hire by the hour?

Anyhow, thanks for the reply. I took a look at the page source (as best as I could…) and I couldn’t see what could be causing this. I’m really curious to know the answer since I’ve seen it now with several sites. Or maybe it’s that the tool I used is flawed in some sense for understand keyword density. Chris, isn’t the Title at the top of the homepage in the editor panel THE H1 title for the page?

Thanks, Bogdan. Have you heard of any major problems combining Cloudflare with Newspaper? I keep reading about combining it with the W3 Total Cache plugin. But I want to stick with the Super Cache plugin since that’s what Tagdiv recommends. Or do people let Cloudflare do the caching and then delete the W3 Total Cache plugin?

1. If I add JSOD-LD markup to my posts or pages, will it get overwritten when I update the theme next time? I’m not working in a child theme… That article says this but I’m not sure if it is true for Newspaper:

To implement schema using microdata, essentially you will be taking your existing HTML and adding various attributes and possibly elements. You will need to edit your theme for the following examples. If you are using a theme created by somebody else, then please make sure you create a child theme, else your changes could be overwritten if the author updates their theme.

Actually I just ran a GZip compression test and it says my site already has it. So ignore that part about GZIP in my question.

Glad it worked! And I agree with what you said. I’ve used another theme in the past where their custom page builder plugin worked with VC and you could always choose.

Hi, Andrea. Do you have the Tagdiv Composer plugin AND Visual Composer turned on? When you do, it’s going to make any VC pages you build look strange like that. Basically you need to choose if you’re going to use one OR the other when you build your site. Since you’re starting off, Tagdiv would recommend you use their new plugin, since they’re not really going to support VC anymore. In my case, I already built tons of posts and pages using VC, so I’m sticking with it for now since I don’t have time to rebuild all of them with Tagdiv Composer. So in other words, I have the Tagdiv Composer turned off and the VC plugin turned on. That instantly corrected my problems. Hope that helps.

Hi, Gen. When you updated, did you keep the Tagdiv Composer activated?

I found in the past that when I updated the theme, it automatically activated the new Tagdiv Composer plugin, and that caused my posts and pages to do things like that. If you use Visual Composer to create posts (as I do) and want to use the Tagdiv Composer, I was told I would need to rebuild all of them using the Tagdiv Composer (and turn off VC). Or, I could go on using VC and turn off the Tagdiv Composer.

I just tried adding the custom CSS. Something is overriding it in the theme…
