I’ve noticed this same issue.

The common item is that I get black bars (top and bottom) on my theme thumbnail feature image when the youtube thumbnail is set to custom. If I am using a youtube video and it is set to one of the three thumbnails that YouTube auto generates, then the thumbnail Newsmag theme pulls will display correctly, full frame, with no black bars.

I’m not sure how the theme pulls the YouTube defined thumbnail through the YouTube api, but when it does it from a video that has a custom thumbnail set, then the video looks horrible on the Newsmag theme.

This is a big problem, cause it causes the look of the page to appear amateur and unprofessional.

PS – 4.5.2 seems to have caused a display issue with Video Playlists and the video playback icon over my big grid. Working on that now as it may be a conflict of a plugin update.

How can I make the attachment page more visually and functionally pleasing?

I want to share an image from the attachment page, but it doesn’t look pretty and has not other text areas, information or even directions to click on previous/next image links.

Can the theme attachment page be made as pretty as the rest of the theme?

Maybe include the ability to add modules to show other articles, etc?

Is there a handy guide, FAQ or doc that has image sizes used for each module? I see that this info is in the theme panel next to each on/off switch. Good idea!

That would save me from having to go through each page with inspect element.

Also, is there a way to get the image creation for the modules to only apply to the featured image? Since that is what is displayed? All images uploaded to the image library appear to be resized for all module viewports.

The current theme file zip release had a downgrade for the revslider plugin. Was that intentional?

I deleted my 5.1. revslider to upload/activate the 4.6. revslider that is in your current ThemeForest zip file bundle?

Can I use the 5.1. from the 2.2. theme files *.zip?

I’m looking for a similar solution. My site visitors do not see that the icon is intended for searching. They can’t find the search function. Do you have a more obvious search tool or can you help me with this code? Maybe a search page I can create and link to in menu? I played with the code above, but it persists on mobile browser and interferes with the logo. The above code is not responsive. Thank you!

Great instructions. However, when I copied the supplied *.js it was for a different language lol

So, I had to copy the *.js from facebook while using my own language and then it displayed fine. Just FYI.

I love looking at all the sites and the way people configure them.

Can you let me know how the switch from NewMag to Newspaper went? I am also curious about this. I really wish I could have more style and separation between modules and the flow of the page. The Title Block color and background colors are not enough.

Here is the adsense code. Funny thing, when I place this code into AdRotate, the preview shows the ad just fine, and it is a different ad each time (which it should be) and it is responsive (which it should be).

But I can’t get the theme to show it at all. 🙁

Update: It looks like the setting has to be set and saved each time the page is edited. It looks like the setting doesn’t lock in as enabled. So, each subsequent edit/save to the page “breaks” the unique article feature.

Is that designed behavior?

sorry for the piggy back. @lucian is there a way to force the theme to re-fetch the thumbnail? We upload original videos and the low rez thumbnail seems to be obtained first and we are stuck with it as the featured image.

I just want to add, this caused a failure of my install backup system with my host, wpeninge. So, they politely asked me to pass on to the plugin authors to please remove prior to packaging.

My Flash ads *.swf in the header position do not fill the container.

Instead of 728×90 they display as 300×90 on desktop view in browser. How do I get my flash ad to display as 728×90 in the leaderboard?

@Chris, thank you. Yeah, I only launched CDN after we launched site. But cache is built into my host and I didn’t know of a way to turn it off for dev.

However, purging it all fixed my problem on my end. Thank you @Alin for taking the time to look at it and confirming it was working properly.

wow, that is really strange.

Should I purge my cache and CDN? Maybe it there is a bug and it is being reproduced at that level.

I’m using WPENGINE which has an aggressive cache, I’m using the theme speed plugin, AND I’m using Cloudflare wich has it’s own CDN and cache.

Those three levels of cache could be messing with what I see when I look at the site from my geographic location.

Maybe when you look at it, it is being pulled as a fresh copy from your geographic location?

So I used a diff check tool, and all my files are identical for style.css on live and staging. :/ This is hard. I don’t know what is causing this issue.

Follow-up: Looking at my css in staging, I see the css is correct.

Thank you for looking into this. I think this is a real and complex issue. I would love a resolution since my mega menus look like crud on my live site without top padding.

I am wondering this myself. Their logos are very similar. Bdayh’s first theme was in 2012. I would like an explanation from tagDiv if possible, please.

FIXED

Sooo, after waiting impatiently, I decided to break open Chrome inspect element and try and troubleshoot it myself.

I realized, I had made my own ads.php and td_module_single.php files in Newsmag-child theme folder.

The update changed these files and so the modifications I made (to turn on/off ads/author on posts per tagDiv forum post) were breaking the ad spot in my header and in my posts.

Woot, fixed it and all is well as far as this help topic.

Update:

I tried using an AdRotate shortcode in the theme setting ads for the Header Ad position with no luck.

I tried adding Adsense to it. I tried adding a straight image.

I tried using the code supplied in the theme documentation to call a straight image. Nope.

No matter what I put in the ad spot in the theme settings; no ads appear in the header ad position on my site.

Can I please get a fix? Thanks
