Frankly, that is a rubbish answer, just a cop out.

Fact: Before upgrading to 9.6 with it’s mobile and amp changes it was working fine and instant. Fact: After upgrading it is unusable.

Hi Calin. Thanks, I am with you as far as point 5.

In my amp settings i do not have the option visible in the screencast to choose from native, paired or classic etc.

In my amp settings i have the following text … “Your active theme has built-in AMP support. Paired: Reuses active theme’s templates to display AMP responses, but uses separate URLs for AMP. Each canonical URL may have a corresponding AMP URL, if the content is fully AMP valid.”

5. I assume from the google amp official notes that the tag div wp amp plug in is a custom version as it doesn’t have many of the options in the google amp documentation. That must be because you know what is best for the theme, great, but why have you removed the ‘validated urls’ and ‘error index’ pages? Surely these would be useful to us in setting everything up?

Thanks Calin

I’m not sure what relevance the divi theme link you sent me has to newspaper theme, but anyway, a complete removal of all tag div plug ins (and bakery) and reinstalling them seems to have done the trick. I can now see the page builder elements again in the back end.

thanks

when i try to update it i get this.

Updating Plugin: tagDiv Composer
The plugin does not have a valid header.

The plugin is at the latest version.

Can i update it manually, and if so is it ok to delete the existing version without screwing anything up?

yeah, the theme status all reports good

Hi Catalin

thanks – but I’m still unclear. For example – my homepage is completely different to the homepage i had ‘out of the box’ with the black demo. I have my own bakery elements, each of which with settings showing perhaps particular categories with animations and borders and padding, backgrounds etc. i have a sidebar with different widgets appearing on different pages and categories, i have pages using accordions and so on. Are all of those settings lost and i just end up with the new chosen demo exactly as it appears on your demo site, so i would have to go through and do all of that development again, or do i have my current homepage, but in different colours/styles?

that makes sense – thanks

thanks simion – very helpful. i have actually turned off amp for now until the bugs are fixed, but that will be useful when it is updated

Thanks simion

yes it is the feature in your first screencast that is not working. i have set toggles to not display on mobile (where they are video ads – because google will not show them). but they are still appearing – they just appear as a grey box as google will not display video ads.
i am pretty confident with the advert features and settings, but this device toggle is not working.

are you advising people to deactivate the tag div amp plug in untill it is fixed?

Nicholas Gibbs

thanks – you just beat me to it. it hadn’t been installed before – i only got 8.7 yesterday – but the install process had got itself in a muddle somehow – anyway, after a logout and login and flush everything it was installed, despite the installer showing it had failed. thanks.

I think I can answer that. If you are using adsense adverts, and you are just setting things up, chances are a lot of your recent googling has included looking at themes and specifically the newspaper theme. Hence you are being served newspaper adverts. The guys at tag div use their advertising budget to target people interested in themes – which is quite logical – and it isn’t clever enough to know you have already purchased and installed it.
Every time i do a theme upgrade or some such I’ll get a few newspaper ads served to me in coming days.
Because you are seeing them doesn’t mean your visitors will. They will be seeing different ads according to their recent browsing habits.
I hope that helps.

different question bogdan. forget the tablet issue for a moment. what i am asking is whether the mobile version can give the user the option to view the full desktop site – this is a fairly commonplace feature on mobile specific themes.

Nicholas Gibbs
tagDiv Member

i don’t think so bogdan.

if you click the image in the gallery it displays full size. i have also just left text with a full size version of the same image inserted as a regular photo. it seems the image is fine, but the tagdiv gallery container is truncating it.

direct link for tag div

thanks for the reply simion

can i ask whether the screenshots are taken from an emulator or an actual tablet, and if a tablet what os was it using?

i have tried it on two different android versions, and an older ios, from 10″ to 7″, all showing the mobile theme.

i actually turned all caching off. removed every plug in that was doing any ‘speed’ or ‘optimisation job on my website. not just for this, but in several areas of development there was a nagging doubt caching could be the problem. i even followed steps to check for cache left overs (and actually found w3 traces from ages ago before i moved to super on theme advice). having removed all of that, and being 100% cache free, i turned off cloudflare and purged everything.

so one thing i can be pretty sure of is cache is not behind the issue.

i have started turning one or two optimisation bits on again. cautiously, checking everything each time an option is flicked.

it has been a useful exercise. a few upgrade issues have resolved themselves, though that may be more to do with your recommendation of switching to php 5.6. than the absence of caching – but having caching out of the way for a development month still seems to make sense.

there are just two issues that remain, and have remained throughout, this tablet displaying mobile theme, and corruption caused by full width blocks (that one i can live with for now)

what is the methodology of the mobile theme in what it serves itself to? is it screen size, resolution, some trigger in the device that says ‘i am a tablet or i am a phone’? might help narrow it down if i can get some more examples.

ha ha, thanks chris. i’ll give it a go – hey, it’s nice to give a little something back 🙂

still showing mobile on tablet?

any more ideas?

Nicholas Gibbs

that’s brilliant simion thanks. your code has done the trick for the immediate needs, i can see there is a learning curve with the css specific to the theme structure that i’ll devote some time to once i’ve got the fundamentals in place.

good work fella 🙂

Nicholas Gibbs

have the images worked? i’m sharing using a drop box url, but they are not showing my end. if not, here is the direct url tag div gallery truncated images

Nicholas Gibbs

ah – there you go, i think you’ve got it. on another support thread a user suggested moving to php 5.6 – i did so a few days ago – haven’t resolved the other issue yet – but if it fixed the activation, great – and come to think of it a problem with module headers resolved ‘itself’ as well.

good stuff, thanks for the reply

thanks simion

i just want to ‘flip’ the colour scheme so mobile is consistent with the main desktop

black background, white fonts

i am a css novice but i’d have thought this would do the trick (but i’ve tried it in the mobile theme custom code css panel, and it doesn’t work)

body
{
color: #ffffff;
background-color: #000000;
}

the ibizan

Resolved itself. i don’t know how. but it did. thanks

Nicholas Gibbs

that’s what i was hoping for Bogdan – experience of other theme users. thanks for the reply.

Nicholas Gibbs

unfortunately the php version didn’t seem to make a difference, still not working with key, or with key via manual and td provided manual activation key

Nicholas Gibbs

thanks chris smith – i don’t know/can’t see what the earlier comment was – so i’ll never know if it was helpful 🙂 but you took the time to reply so i’ll assume it was intended so.

i was on php 5.4

i have just changed it to 5.6

5.4 has 25 services/options checked

5.6 had 22

i have checked the missing 3 – those being

opcache
ioncube loader
zen guard loader

is that all making sense man, as i am well out of my comfort zone here?
