Ok. Are there any pitfalls to installing the “stock” fonts as custom fonts? Just go to “https://code.google.com/archive/p/roboto-webfont/downloads” and download all the different roboto woff files and set them as custom fonts in the theme panel and different settings according to the font customization guide?

I’m not trying to complicate this and I’m not looking for a unique look, it is just that google fonts seem to be such a common cause of slow page speeds.

I think your “Font Customization” guide is a bit misleading on this matter. Here are the first two sentences from the manual:

“The theme comes with two preset default Google Fonts: Open Sans and Roboto. This ensures out of the box functionality and cross-browser visual consistency.”

and

“Establish if you want to enable/disable the Google Fonts for the whole website. If you disable this option, the website will load the fonts found in the system.”

This led me to believe the two fonts were included in the theme files.

I’m having the same issue, except I haven’t uploaded custom fonts, I’m relying on the system fonts only.

– Google fonts turned off in the theme panel.
– Everything set to Roboto (in theme panel + composer)
– All cache cleared (browser, caching plugin, and Cloudflare)
– The fonts load fine in Firefox and Chrome but not in the Brave browser.
– I have tried incognito mode and turning off the caching plugin (Litespeed).
– Everything works fine when I turn google fonts back on in the theme panel.

According to your guide: “Mobile device support. (External plugin or theme required. See the FAQ for further details.)” What theme or plugin do you recommend/did you use when you tested? I tried Jetpack, and it didn’t work. I have the same issue as OP, the mobile theme is displayed on desktops.

Never mind. A cache delete seems to have fixed the issue.

Yes, that is the one. I did the exact same changes you suggest about 10 times yesterday, but nothing would change. Today, however, it seems to be working correctly. Seems like all it needed was a fresh new day:) The changes are not visible in the visual editor tho, but that is ok.

I also wonder if there is a way to change title length on block 4 so that all of the text in the title is visible. The “title-length” under the “content-length” settings in the block settings is greyed out and cannot be changed.

Found the solution myself. Just needed to set all settings to “No stretch”, in the Force full width tab under the template settings.

I wish there was a way to change this to a 3/4 + 1/4 ratio as a standard option for posts. For some site types where the sidebar is not so important, like on blogs, this would be better I think. I did a test where I made a page with this ratio and compared to the 2/3 + 1/3 standard ratio on all post templates. It looks much better I think. Could you make a post template with 3/4 + 1/4?

As I’m all new to this I don’t quite know yet if I will need to make .css changes or not. But I imagine it would be good to have the opportunity.

Is it possible to start using the normal theme, and then just add the child theme later if I need to make this kind of changes?

One other thing I don’t quite understand from the sources: How does the connection between the parent theme and the child theme work; how does the child theme “know” that the parent theme is updated? Are both themes active at the same time? So that you never really “update” the child theme, only the parent theme?

Some of the disadvantages mentioned in the articles include the time needed to learn the parent theme, and the importance of choosing a good parent theme. I guess this disadvantage and risk is eliminated by using the included parent theme?

Sorry if the answers to these questions are “obvious” for more experienced users. I get the impression that child themes are not really for beginners, but at the same time that they are something that is smart to use from the beginning:)

Hi. I’m completely new to WordPress, themes and especially child themes. It is very hard to understand where to begin, but I understand installing a child theme is generally recommended if one need to add code later. But I have more questions than answers. The child theme “tutorial” is not very useful for a beginner, like how do I install one? https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-child-theme-support-tutorial/ I’ve tried uploading it like I did with the “main” newspaper theme (newspaper.zip), but I don’t find a zip file named “childtheme.zip” or similar. I only find a folder named “Newspaper-child” with the files functions.php and styles inside. Do I upload theese files? I have a lot of beginner questions like: Can I still use one of the included demos to start? But I don’t find any help in the documentation. Tips where to start? Don’t want to install one of the demos in the “main” theme and start changing them before I understand how I can safely build the site without risking losing custom settings, content etc.
