Christopher is a long time WordPress user. Anything else you need to know is private ;-) I *do not* work for TagDiv, but I've been using their themes since late 2013.

There should ideally only be *one* image open graph (OG) tag in your meta data in your <head></head> area when viewing your “page source” for a post on the web. This ONE image tells Google WHICH specific image to use for sharing, as it would do for FB, etc.

Google help on this issue:
https://developers.google.com/+/web/snippet/article-rendering

Assuming you tried checking your page source to ensure the actual OG tag and image tag are pointing at the full size image and not a thumbnail? And when checking that image in web browser it’s actually there?

simchris
tagDiv Member

No. But you can often set that in many web browsers for testing.

(option A)
Via FTP, rename your plugins folder to xplugins
login; then rename plugins folder back; then activate visual composer.

(option B)
if that does not work;
via FTP, rename your plugins folder to xplugins
login, change to default theme; then rename plugin folder back to normal, then activate visual composer, then reactivate theme

most of the demo content is nonsense and should not be used for anything except a demo site; it’s not real content and makes no sense in English; so likely nonsense in other languages as well.

You can get content to use on sites like this:

Hello all…
some of you may have noticed in old threads I had suggested using the venerable ADDTHIS plugin if you needed quick “bunch of sharing buttons” for your site without having to do anything custom or fancy; I can no longer recommended AddThis due to an injection of large amount of comment text in every page, which is designed to disable and over-ride “comment removal” systems like mod_pagespeed. So, this broadcasts to everyone you’re using AddThis. Granted it’s a free offering at its basic level, but still not cool.

So, instead we have started using this one, which works great with the theme automatically, putting the “top” sharing items at bottom of post for those who want share buttons without bandwidth/page load affecting “counters” … if you just want people to be able to share stuff… this one works very well, and super lightweight:

(loads in under 5 msec.)

Fine if you disagree with me over and over.
We have a senior rep at AdSense and our usage has been reviewed and accepted.

Sorry your usage was banned.

Perhaps you need to read the TOS in future; I sure did. I’ve been part of the Adsense program since in beta. SO I do know more about it than you.

If you were blocked/booted it was likely for some other reason as they would have given you warning before actually booting you for non-compliance, based on my own experience on behalf of clients.

So, again – for those who think the newbies on here know what they are talking about – they don’t.

If you use the smart bar properly, to not focus on just ads, and your ad is only part of the content then it’s fine.

Read the TOS again — it relates to “bringing unnatural attention to an ad” — which is not done if the whole sidebar is sticky, and the ad is not the dominant element.

Sheesh. Sorry that can’t through your thick skull.

I don’t know why I bother with some of you folks.

In fact, I fuc*ing give up.

Good bye all.

So, in the above example you’d put your HTML in each location as indicated.

such as

<a href="" rel="nofollow"><img src="mysite.vvv/assets/image-300x250.jpg" height="250" width="300" alt="" /></a>

Basic HTML.

You can upload any image to your media folder, or ftp to a folder like /assets/ in your public root.

Docs for using non-adsense ads are in the theme docs, right side of the page under the ‘ads’ section.

to wit: https://forum.tagdiv.com/newsmag-using-other-ads/

so, by the example in the theme docs, for a custom ad using a local image you upload, you’d need to put in your own HTML code, as per the EXAMPLE:
Show different ads depending on the device:

* do not use this method for AdSense. This is just for custom ads. For AdSense just paste your full code in the box 🙂 and customize the ad via the on of switches and the predefined sizes.
<div class="td-visible-desktop">
<!-- Your NON AdSense code here - this ad will show only on desktops -->
</div>
<div class="td-visible-tablet-landscape">
<!-- Your NON AdSense code here - this ad will show only on tablets in landscape orientation -->
</div>
<div class="td-visible-tablet-portrait">
<!-- Your NON AdSense code here - this ad will show only on tablets in portrait orientation -->
</div>
<div class="td-visible-phone">
<!-- Your NON AdSense code here - this ad will show only on phones -->
</div>

After 2 years no problem with Google AdSense here for our sites. But then, we are making the sidebar sticky with related stories, subscribe box, search box, and not just making the whole sidebar an ad section. So, if you have the ad as “part of” the sidebar and not “the entire” sidebar it *is* okay to have an ad unit in there, like the classic 300×250 box. Seriously.

There are lots of related post plugins you might try, if you have not already.

As noted in prior queries to you on the forum, see some of the option in my sticky post on optimizing the theme and your site for better performance.

In my sticky thread I us cssminifier which works perfectly. As I posted in your other thread, if your web browser crashes USING the minifier you likely didn’t use it right or try another web browser.

Also in my sticky post is a link to the Google recommend JS minifier.

However, not ALL CSS and JS can be minified properly.

Minifying the main style.css is wise. However you need to do so using a text editor, not a word processor, and if your server is running Linux vs Windows, you need to make sure you save the text file with Linux line breaks vs PC/Windows line breaks — a good text editor like TextPad, BBEdit, or similar has this capability.

Not sure if that helped. I can’t help you “tune your web server” as there are too many kinds of servers as well as the issues I mentioned above — e.g., a server with gigabit switch will be faster than one with a 10/100 switch; 7200 RPM drives vs 5400 RPM drives faster, 100 domains on box vs 1000, etc. all play into performance.

2 years ago I chose TagDiv themes for the attention to detail and “what I was looking for,” and have been amazed at the support and continued development.

Congratulations to all 🙂

You could mark all the errors as fixed in your search console and see if they re-occur. Might have been caching issue, or CDN issue, or some plugin creating ghost pages.

simchris

Time to first byte has to do with various factors like host speed, hard drive speed, type of network connection (e.g., 100/1000 vs 10/100) for server, number of CPU cores available, etc.

You should try to “tune” that kind of thing with default WP theme first to get fastest time to first byte, then later install the TD theme once you have a speedy start time.

Forgot to say, I’d love to see some “full width” options for the “slider area” at top below logo/menus/ad, but above the other rows.

I guess that would essentially be a “full width” row option.

Sites like CNET.com are examples of this kind of thing.

simchris

If you had originally installed the demo pages/content that might be leftover from that.

simchris
tagDiv Member

Not a wide screen theme; hence the demos on themeforest 🙂

You can edit the CSS, but that requires modifying quite a bit of the @media settings.

I’m sure tagdiv will have better answer, but no simple way to do that.

On separate note;
If running Akismet with comments on, be sure to update THAT asap; as major security issue.

simchris

Yes, except with major WP core and structural changes, this means some things change in the child themes, too.

Also I’m an SEO nut going on 20 years now, so technically a child theme is a CSS redirect every page load, which isn’t a great idea … e.g., load CSS file, but wait, please redirect to the REAL css file now ? Google specifically recommends not doing that.

I usually look at the changelog to see WHAT files change — if it’s just some basic stuff, I can replace those couple of files and be done. For MAJOR upgrades they often have changes to child theme, too.

Been caught by that .. upshot – up to you. I just find it safer to work off main files, and this also removes some gremlins I run into with mod_pagespeed, caching, blah blah.

Having two sets of files in theme folder annoying to me. 🙂

simchris
tagDiv Member

Well, theme doesn’t automatically change your pages.

So, might be issue with any auto-updates you have running, or issue with CDN, etc.

Hopefully you installed the Akismet update if you’re using that with comments turned on, as that is major security patch announced overnight.

Theme doesn’t have security issues, but plugins might that you’re using.

REMINDER:
both Visual Composer needed to be updated last week — major security flaw.
AND the Akismet plugin need to be updated for major security flaw.

Site can be hacked from both of those.
