Also helps to state you’re using JetPack for your subscriptions .. which is not powered by the theme, but is a plugin built by WordPress parent company.

SO it sounds like what you’re saying is that the JetPack plugin is not working?

Do you have all the settings correct in your JetPack account admin panel? Meaning, is the Jetpack setup correct ?

Try disabling all the other JetPack stuff like Photon, any plugins other than Visual Composer and JetPack; then see if it works.

Also did you try using it in the default WP theme – does it work there??

The theme doesn’t have a “subscription” system, which is why I’m asking that. SO, you’re asking for help in developing your site which has nothing to do with the theme. But I’ll try to give you some pointers 🙂

So, the point is — what/where/HOW are people “singing up” … and signing up to WHAT?

If you don’t setup a subscription system, how would it email something to you?

If somebody is signing up where is that being saved?

Meaning, in simplest terms:
for somebody to subscribe:

a) there has to be a sign-up form
b) the form “writes” that data to a database or subscription manager, or external subscription service (e.g., ConstantContact or similar)
b) you need a system to email stuff to people — meaning there must be some kind of plugin or mechanism for a “subscriber” to actually get emails and this then hooks to the SMTP plugin — the SMTP plugin doesn’t send emails, it just lets whatever plugin or subscription system you’re using SEND emails to people via WordPress — but without an actual system, it does nothing on its own

Some people get an account with Feedburner powered by Google – this allows people to sign up on your site and then they can get a daily email of your posts from prior day. You sign up at Google’s feedburner site, then you get a widget or plugin to install on your site, such as in a sidebar or add the form code to a subscription page.

You might contact the folks who make the plugin, as TagDiv has nothing to do with the SMTP email plugin.

Where is the “subscription” form on your website?

When somebody subscribes where is that being stored? Can you see the people who are signing up? Are you using a WordPress subscription box, or are you using a plugin of some kind to manage subscriptions, like a newsletter plugin? Are you using Feedburner?

Not clear from your post what you’re using to “manage subscribers” and whether or not people are actually being subscribed or not?

I jumped from 1.4 to 1.6 — so still “discovering” some things also 🙂

For tags … I think there is a better plugin for doing tags, frankly. Somebody else had example of this earlier this week .. where they were nice little tags with nicer styling. I think you have to use either plugin, or add something to functions file to limit number of tags.

Hmmm. Could not find a function over ride for that.

On our old site we actually hooked that manually either via shortcode or placing the call directly in the area….

e.g.,

I just did this myself…

Note “style 1” has the pre-defined blocks; which you cannot actually change cols 2 + 3; only add stuff to col 1 from the panel. This is quick start for folks to not have empty footer.

I wanted to keep the 3 column, and have col one use the pre-defined logo, block of text and social icons, and then blank cols 2 and 3.

footer settings > templates

So, from the footer settings, click on the little image which shows the first column having stuff in it, and the second/third empty — in my case “style 2”

Then you can use the appearance > widgets to put anything into cols 2 + 3

OR: choose the footer template you want by clicking on the graphic, and then save.

It *is* a little different than last version of Newsmag, but much better I think 🙂

I think Newspaper 5.0 will make you happy, but no specific ETA (I’m guessing end of April based on their past release schedule). Totally a psychic prediction !

Of course, buy both and you can switch between them while keeping a lot of settings, which is nice 🙂

Well, Newsmag is a couple of months old (2015) and contains many of the things they’ve learned the last 16 months with Newspaper. Newspaper was launched over a year ago, so it is more mature in terms of support for things like forums and multi-site stuff.

Newsmag has some of the things people wanted for Newspaper, but which didn’t fit with the wide screen responsive framework they moved to with NP4.

So, in terms of “where they are” …. think of Newspaper as being 4.0 tech and Newsmag being 4.5 tech with some beta aspects. Newspaper 5.0 would have best of both, while being different from Newsmag. Newspaper has more of a broad use focus, and Newsmag has a more narrow focus (I don’t mean layout).

So, because Newspaper is more mature — it’s ironically more difficult to move to the new grids, tricky bits, and whatnot while retaining compatibility with ALL the stuff people are using it for like forums, and multisite and buddypress, et al.

What’s really awesome is that folks who bought 4.0 would get 5.0 free, where that would not be the case in the software world.

Usually it’s a memory allocation issue with PHP, such as too short process time, or too small memory allocation (e.g., 32MB vs 256MB); and/or the maximum “upload” size is too small. Checking your php.ini setup file usually solves that.

Some good suggestions; I’m kind of expecting the “next” version of Newspaper to have the same benefits of existing theme, updated grid options, and some of the “tricky” things baked into Newsmag. Obviously there would be no point in simply doing everything like Newsmag. I also think Newspaper should have more focus on “newspaper” layout things, like the L.A. Times, and less of a magazine focus — although that is kind of nonsense to even say in terms of online publishing. Seems like there would still be some differentiation …. perhaps Newspaper will generally remain the “wide body” and Newsmag thje “narrow body” — perhaps Newspaper will include option to do both, although the if/then statements on that would be insane! 🙂

Of course, with a newspaper focus, you need more “localized” things and with a magazine you need more “national” things.

It will be awesome to see what they come up with next 🙂

For our purposes, I’m kind of shifting everything to Newsmag for now.

Yup… Check the box on the themeforest downloads page in your account. I always get updates email with no prob.

You would likely need to edit the modules (the files in /theme/includes/modules/ ) you’re using on home page to remove the timestamp from there. AFAIK.

I moved from Woo Canvas to Newsmag and still tweaking the above (not yet fully optimized for pagespeed for example or all block elements, or the footer, footer logo, etc.). I cannot replicate the issue you are referring to. (I am running monitor at 1920×1200 – with dual Apple 23-inch IPS Cinema Displays on my main workstation here …)

we actually had this issue after theme update. “Resaving” the block again, and then resaving the main page cleared it up for us. Might not be your issue, but this happened in Chrome.

It also happens in Chrome if you set your browser magnification to 90% in Chrome, but not IE11. Oddly.
