I am still having issues ‘sharing’ from our news portals to our FB pages. But going to the page, and posting from the “what’s on your mind” box works. Really annoying. (Not theme related)

FB having issues this month with sharing links, showing video, and capturing images is entirely due to your having proper open graph tags – theme cannot manage FB sharing/posting – it’s entirely on the FB side.

I have had to manually post items to our FB page as sharing links have not been working from anyplace to our business pages.

You can try doing manual post, then if image does not show up, wait a little bit then do refresh attachment on FB.

Wordpress creates those relationships, not the theme.

fyi, you can put ‘pages’ into pseudo categories, but that is usually for stuff like company info, services, etc.

e.g.,
page: printing services
sub=page: printing services > business cards
sub=page: printing services > posters

site/printing-services/
site/printing-services/business-cards/
site/printing-services/posters/

Note, I was having issues sharing news items to our news page on FB all this morning (April 14 in U.S.); could not manual post either. Eventually was able to manually post several stories. It’s not you, it’s FB having some random tech glitch.

If your site breaks during dev, usually a typo in the text you’ve entered for that page; simply login and change that page, or revert to one of the saved drafts from the page you were working on.

If you somehow broke “the entire website” — that is not really fault of the theme. Typically, if all you see is code, then again, possibly you entered broken code into a widget, so checking your widgets, or anything that runs on “every page” like the menu, is good place to start.

It’s usually good idea during dev work to export your work every time you hit a “safe” spot so you can go back if you mess up.

Probably doesn’t help, but fixing or redoing your menu likely your best option to fix your cock up.

Twitter has recurring problems of not showing images. As long as you have the proper meta tags setup, it’s all you can do.

Also, the card validator *does* still work to validate a post and can update a stuck post to refresh. I use it all the time.

Other thing to try, is check one of the pages not indexed but crawled, ‘inspect’ it in your Google panel, and click ‘request indexing’ to see what happens….

this happened big time to one of our 15 year old news portals… suddenly we had 18,000 pages “crawled not indexed.”

If you have proper canonical tags in your pages (do ‘view source’ in Chrome of similar web browser), that should eventually take care of it.

What is the specific error noted and example of the page URL noted as a problem?

Note that sometimes things like external inbound links with hanger on urls will generate this error

might generate that error — basically they are saying we ignored the first one and went with the canonical URL.

The canonical URL is the “actual” URL, separate from any amp, pdf, print, or other “version.” This should always be noted in the header/page info when looking at the html/page source.

This is issue affecting many news websites right now, actually since October. Google is in the midst of deprecating many news sites for spammy content — meaning, just parroting news from other sources vs originating it.

Only thing you can do is look at their examples of what is not being indexed and why.

Note many can be ignored, like removing AMP pages, they will generate errors for awhile that the linked location ignored on crawl, and only the canonical version used.

Nothing to do with the theme.

You can check to make sure your sitemap works. You can check the examples Google mentions as to why pages crawled not indexed, to see if actually relevant or not, and then you can request they validate your fixes if you made actual fixes, or if you think it’s totally an error on their part.

If it was indexing error, they make come back in a week and say “some validation failed” .. and then you need to look closer at that.

I don’t work here, but simplest fix that I’d do in the interim is make an image of your logo and create the folders on your site via FTP if not already there, and upload your logo with that filename to your site to that folder location.

It may also simply be you didn’t set the location in the theme panel for the site icons.

what php version? how much memory set for wordpress? what is the resource timeout time?

usually means server overloaded, not enough memory, server updates interfere, auto WP updates turned on (not good idea), etc.

Did you try disabling their caching plugin, or setting rules on what to “not cache” for the admin tools to work? If it worked one place, then not working another place, seems kinda obvious something changed at the new place. Also, make sure not running php 8.3, only up to 8.2x.

I started using the Redirection plugin as it also does some neat tricks like tracking 404s if you want, so you can do redirect on the spot. Our news portal has been online 25 years, so it’s kinda a nightmare 🙂 We also 301’d print friendly versions, pdfs, amp, etc. — but with you, most of our code is in custom home-brew plugin vs having 10 “one liner” plugins installed. 🙂

Fyi, I did post regex codes for setting up redirects for amp here in the forum couple years back, I think you can find by clicking on my name. They can be used with the redirection plugin.

In WordPress you can edit posts with td-composer, or the default gutenberg editor, and if you have the classic editor pluging installed, you can still use the old classic editor from old wordpress (what we do here).

When you go to edit a post, there are little links below the post in the posts menu, to choose how to edit.
