Hi @Bettina — tried everything before writing to you for help. I suspect it could be that I have not set up the child theme properly. In my child theme I only added
functions.php
style.css
Is there something else I needed to do?
Hi @Bettina,
I was hoping for a bit more of your help on the rest of the questions as well. I’ve seen the explanation in the screenshot and I use a Cloud Library Template — the same as I was using before when it was working, which is the case on the Staging Site too (where it works!)
Please can you also at least look at my question regarding publishing rights, etc?
Thanks and I would appreciate your help.

Just one more thing — on the Staging site (has the same settings), I am able to see the header-login popup. However, the menu-login – when I click “Login” – it does not take me to the sign in page, instead, it refreshes the home page.
Thanks for the swift response, @Bettina ! No problem — I will wait for an update to that 🙂
Thanks @Bettina ! Definitely more clear now. I made the changes as you suggested (same link), but it is still not sticky in the mobile version (despite having set it to Sticky + offset 20).
Hi @Bettina
Maybe we are not understanding each other — as the theme update changelog mentions (sticky is responsive), and as you also mentioned making the inner column sticky in the mobile viewport — I am just asking how to do so? If you see the link and what am trying to do, perhaps you can tell me what process to follow?
Hi @Bettina,
I should have mentioned before : I have updated the theme to the latest one. In the mobile design, I could make the inner column background grey, but the “sticky” is not an option I can’t tick. — yes, I meant the mobile viewport. It would seem I cannot tick the option…(it is not highlighted). I can however, alter the sticky offset. Please let me know what I am missing!
fully on board that dark mode is needed & each update I hope there is this one change. However — having seen a couple of other themes, it does not seem to be an uncomplicated add on for a theme like Newspaper which offers so much customisation. Dark mode requires colour customisation etc too — of course, cant be sure that this is the reason Newspaper is delaying it, but just here to say that between the customizations and endless features that Newspaper offers and Dark mode, I’d choose the former. People come to your site for content and yes, design plays a huge role, but it isn’t the only factor.
Hi @Anamaria, I managed to do this and generate a shortcode that I can add to any page / post to display the quiz (not the front end creation for it yet). However, I’ve added it to my functions.php code. I don’t use a child theme yet.
Please suggest how I can update the theme without losing this. Should I move to a staging site, create a child theme and then update? How to copy everything to a child theme?
Thank you!
Hi @Anamaria… that worked out for me 🙂 Thanks and ignore my previous message. I have a follow up Question though. The log in link is mydomain.com/tds-login-register >> can I change this permalink?
Understood that! Thanks @Anamaria! But please answer my Q: where to locate the “menu login” in header-menu (as seen in your image). How does one arrive here ? I only have “Header Login” as an available shortcode and it doesn’t have this option for custom pages. Do I need the Opt-in plugin for this too?
okay sure…because I would like to create something like this https://imgur.com/Vhks5fa (shared earlier on this forum). Again, can you please tell me meanwhile, where to locate the “menu login” in header-menu (as seen in your image). How does one arrive here ? I only have “Header Login” as an available shortcode and it doesn’t have this option for custom pages.
@Anamaria – I just realised while trying to work your solution that I don’t see “menu login” in header-menu (as seen in your image). How does one arrive here ? I only have “Header Login” as an available shortcode and it doesn’t have this option for custom pages.
Understood! Thank you. This seems perfect for my needs. Can you also let me know the answer to the second part of my question?
I would like authors to publish only “x” number of posts freely. To post CPTs, there will have to be a payment. How do I go about this? Thank you!
Hi @anamaria – thanks for sharing the link but it seems the good option is to add the code to a page-template. Somehow, adding a code to functions.php and generating a shortcode is just not giving out the right solution in case of ACF’s nested repeater fields.
How can I add the code to a blank template assigned to my CPT?
Thank you @sixeleven ! That worked perfect.
Though it seems the user is unable to create a gallery – but at least the main problem is solved. 🙂
Hi @Anamaria,
Sorry for my late response – I was still testing it on my actual site and not a staging one, so unfortunately I was a bit stuck. It turns out my trial wasn’t working and your instructions here to use CPT-ACF might be a better solution.
I have read through the ACF Pro documentation, and I feel it might be a better idea for me to create a quiz using repeater fields etc. and then map it to a template provided by you all.
Would you know of use-case examples such as these?
Thank you in advance!
I’m not sure I follow – I don’t want to use any of the plugins listed here because my expectations / needs are specific. I have tested some of these including HD Quiz and don’t need these.
Could you please guide me on making sure the question loads into the CPT template or my normal single-post template? I would prefer that the quiz loads into the single-post template like a usual post.
Hey! Sure – but how do I send it? I made it myself (and it isn’t perfect yet) — but can email you access to the WP backend / Siteground whatever you prefer. Sorry am also trying this for the first time as none of the plugins I’ve seen are helpful to my purpose.
Here’s a link to the video! I’d of course be working on the custom post type a bit more — am in the initial stages only, so your help is appreciated!
Hi Anamaria,
Yes, the cpt appears in the cloud templates and I assigned a template too. But in the template, only the “Title” & “Description” appears – the data from the Metabox doesn’t. This data is the quiz question and options.
Also, none of my custom posts open the Gutenberg Editor.
Where am I going wrong?
Hi Bettina,
Sure. Please see this link to the homepage (it is a page). and the top right button “Subscribe”. This is a modal popup and opens the Page ID “Newsletters“.
Now, please see this post and the same ‘subscribe’ modal button. You will notice, inside the modal, “share your reaction”. This feature is set ONLY for posts. Technically it should not appear because the modal is opening a “Page”, i.e Newsletters.
This does not happen if I add “custom content” in the modal. It does not matter then whether you open the modal from a page or post, it only displays the custom content.
So basically, the modal when set to a PageID is inheriting the settings of the page / post from where it is opened. How can I prevent this? I would like the modal to open the page as is.
I hope my problem is clearer now.
I did raise this before the last update even and it has not been solved. I hope this can be looked into as I don’t use Chrome and using another un-updated Mac device / one with Chrome is not always possible. Also, for the next update where can we request new features?
update: I fixed this, but it seems it disappeared for most people because of a setting by ACF.
