Hello,
I try to make several changes on the theme Newspaper.
I chose “category 9” as blog layout.
1 / On the homepage, I would like to replace the title h3 by h2.
What files do I change? In which file is the H3 titles?
2 / On the homepage, I want that the content displayed is different from that of the article. I use excerps, but these are not calibrated to 300 characters.
Yet I set the length of the sample to 300 characters in options, but it does not work.
In summary, on the home page, for each item I want to display the extract and not the content. Problem: extract does not come to 300 characters.
How to extract block 300 characters or 60 words?
Thank you.
hi guys
I have installed Newspaper to my existing site and I have run the regenerate thumbnail tool, however, the featured image is not showing correctly.
The site is: http://connecteddigitalhome.com and two examples are:
Erratum Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z for PS Vita
K’NEX Titanfall Building Sets shown at Toy Fair 2014
Any ideas?
all the best
Andrew
Hello there.
First this is my page:
http://www.erco-entertainment.com
I have a problem with my footer. There are 3x 1/3 columns. But there are not centered. The “text” column (facebook example) is just a picture and it is div align=right and still not really on the right side. The blue lines are made in Photoshop and these should be the perfect areas for the columns.

Is this a bug or something? Should i search the code to optimize it by myself or is there a easier ways to fix this?
And i have a question how to delete the Headline of each page:

Maybe you can help me. Thank you 😉
A good thought for improving landing page visibility for non magazine portals using this theme. Note that on “most” magazine sites there is no semantic need for an H1 tag on the “cover page” as there is no unique content, as it’s often dofollow links to the story which has H1 tags and you want THAT page to be indexed under the title of the story as the canonical link and not the same content on home page (I’ve been doing SEO since 1996, fyi, professionally). Often with the “home page” the H1 tag is actually used on a slider to focus on the ‘featured’ information; so for example if you have a slider loading slides via ajax, the “visible slide” would have H1 tags for the “featured” element, or headline, and that would become the H1 tag for the front page as primary element.
On a service portal like Yoast, which is not a news magazine, there is no “featured” element, and so the logo is an appropriate place to use the H1 as he is optimizing for YOAST as well as ‘website optimization.’
So, you may want to check usage of the “slider” options first, which are commonly used for this particular theme and which may have the H1 tag you’re looking for.
Adding a conditional logo tag for only the home page might add bloat to the theme for that purpose.
Also, for “alt tags” — remember you need to actually add the alt tags to your images on upload with the media manager. My sites have proper alt tags on the home page, and have since day one, so not sure where you’re seeing those “missing.”
Hope that contributed to the discussion a little bit 🙂
Chris
(pardon the mix of ” and “” here …. in one of those moods today where lazy to hit the shift key 🙂 )
Hello,
your theme is really amazing. Analyzing your theme with some SEO Tool, like “http://handergy.com/analisi-seo/”, two of the elements more important that missing therefore, are:
1) H1 tag missing on the Homepage;
2) Alt tag missing for images on the homepage;
Screenshot: http://i39.tinypic.com/2nv3txs.jpg
Regarding H1 tag, there are many different thoughts; some uses it behind the “logo images” only in the Homepage, using a variable condition that change the H tag in other pages.
For example: H1 tag behind the logo in the homepage; H3 for all other pages or nothing H tag for other pages.
Other instead, uses the H1 for all posts in the homepage; other again, uses the H1 tag for the “category name” and H3 (as you) for all post name, in the homepage.
Another great example is the famous site “Yoast.com”, the founder of WordPress SEO by Yoast; as I said before, it use H1 tag behind the logo images only the Homepage and “p class” for all other pages.
Howeaver, I think that for this, we can find a good solution for us!
Can you try to improve these two “SEO Features”, for next updates?
I think that is really important follow some SEO advice for sites today and these, are two features quite important.
Thank you!
Hello,
I know there’s a option to change link hover color for menu items (one color for all the menu items), but what I want is to have separate hover color for all the menu items). So, for example ITEM1 has hover color COLOR1, ITEM2 has COLOR2 and so on. Is there a way to make this happen?
Regards
Hello,
our theme customizer uses inline css to change colors on demand. For example when you change the accent color of the theme, the theme will change it’s color. With inline css is the only way to provide user customizable colors. If you leave all the default settings the theme will not generate inline css.
Hope this explains a bit… 🙂
Hello! Wondering if you could help me add a bit of code to my posts. Here’s what I want to do …
I have a ZergNet content sharing account. I would like to add the Zergnet code so that it appears on the bottom of every post on my site, after the post content and before the comments, like in the highlighted area in this image example .
Where do I place the code for this to happen? Thanks! Still loving the theme.
Hello,
Add this code && current_user_can('manage_options') like here: http://screencast.com/t/1w3XFOgu
Thanks for the message!
Hi!
I’m testing your theme. After I installed your theme on my web server, I imported your sample data at your theme option. It was really easy and cool.
I found “WPBakery Visual Composer Settings” at my setting page. But Visual Composer Plugin wea not installed by default.
And I wondered how to create a frontpage slider. So I looked up your documentation material
here.
It seems you’re using Visual Composer Plugin to make frontpage slider.
However, as you said here, “We fully integrated the visual composer in our theme, so we did not used as a plugin. Unfortunately to add new elements in our version of you need to modify the code.”
I was confused what it means exactly.
1. Does it mean I can make frontpage slider without the Visual Composer Plugin ?
Or Your theme is so made that only installation of Visual Composer plugin is enough to work with your theme ? So Do I have only to buy premium “Visual Composer” and install it on my server ?
I’m not familiar with your theme yet.
Please help me.
Thanks A Lot in Advance.
Hello,
I certainly know I did not buy the theme, I’ll show you sample, to see if I can not buy this theme is change
Hi, I am trying to have my site display as the blog example in the demo. Meaning 1 row of thumbnails post with the description on the right and the “Read More” button at the bottom. Somehow I can’t see how to create this with the building blocks but maybe I overlooked something. Can anyone tell me how to? Thanks in advance!
Hi, Radu
that would be awesome. I switched from using the child theme so as to not impact my pagespeed adventures, and so the custom CSS I put at bottom of style.css didn’t have an impact in the way the child/style.css did. Being able to tweak a few things here or there with either a custom.css file, or perhaps more appropriately these days a “hook” to drop some code in the head at bottom before the body tag (Woo Themes does this fairly well, btw; they have all these little ‘hook’ locations to drop in code, although it does add a slew of if/then crap; disclosure we’re trying to ramp up your theme to replace Woo Canvas!).
So for us to be semi-done and in full “go mode” my laundry list of stuff needed is simply:
1) Google async alignment in top bar
2) websafe fonts option – which would save me hacking that one
3) custom.css injection hook in head, to over-ride couple of minor things (like making the author box bio text size smaller, when making the post side larger so the author bio isn’t over-large from the base adjustment)
4) not critical; but option to have a local image for author box (add new user meta field for ‘author image’ — we used to do this on our in house theme, not difficult) to not pull gravatar and save some bandwidth from external site — if you wanted to wow the kids, you could add a “grab my image from gravatar” option 😉 Peeps love the “automagical” stuff.
Otherwise, for us — you’re done! I’m hoping the v3 won’t introduce new issues, but right now we’re very happy.
BTW: for ‘web safe’ fonts, Adobe came up with some really quite brilliant ‘stacks’ of the best font mix to use across Mac, Windows, iOS, Android, et al. They can be found in Dreamweaver, and possibly their help system – but if you need those, just let me know. Much nicer than the old skool ‘Helvetica, arial, sans-serif’ stack. 🙂
Hi, Anna
we’re running the latest “stable” release from November. The current January version is an “edge” (or “Beta”) which is on different development track. So, hoping the stable version will be updated end of January with some of the new fixes.
Since our main sites are mission critical we dialed back all the filters server wide to just the CoreFilters minus one lazy load element (have an over-ride to lazy load images on page load and not on scroll as that did weird things).
Originally tested with a “full set of best choices for WordPress” but we’d see that something caused conflicts and so doing side by side speed of loading tests, most of the time the pages would load more quickly with mod_pagespeed OFF, which didn’t make much sense.
Now, I’m testing the filters sort of case by case, then testing the “mix” of elements (e.g., fonts, adsense, grvatar, addthis/social buttons) with each option, trying to use as few as possible to not actually slow things down (meaning why have mod_pagespeed do something which doesn’t actually need to be done — 10 extra filters adds some latency somewhere, although if done pre-cache not a biggie “in theory”).
It’s also worth noting I hacked the addthis plugin to add the “async” method which is not built-in (stupidly); which can be found in one of my other posts.
The adventure continues on Saturday!
Also note that some “master filter” settings enable sub filters, as so:
ModPagespeedEnableFilters rewrite_images (apache)
in the configuration file. This is equivalent to enabling
inline_images, recompress_images, convert_png_to_jpeg, and resize_images.
And then recompress_images is a master ‘group’ filter set for the following:
This is also a group filter, and is equivalent to enabling: convert_gif_to_png, convert_jpeg_to_progressive, jpeg_subsampling, recompress_jpeg, recompress_png, recompress_webp, strip_image_color_profile, and strip_image_meta_data.
So as you can see there are
master group >> sub master group >> end filters part of sub-master group
hence the phrase “tricky” 🙂
I am testing the master groups first to find what doesn’t work; then sub-groups, then down to specialized sub-filter settings.

Hello,
I will add more sizing options to fonts. Regarding the responsive fonts – I have to look a little bit for a solution to that.
@Christopher we don’t yet have a place for custom css 😐 . Can you wait till the end of the month when we release the v3 update? We have custom css spots there and also custom responsive css.
I second this emotion. I was actually trying to make the post story titles 48px and was limited to the 40px. I suppose simple fix is just adding css adjust for that at bottom of the main style.css ?
Since we’re not using a child theme, where *is* the best place to insert custom CSS ? I don’t think there is a hook to put custom style inline with the head to override the main style. I tried to over-ride something by putting at bottom of the main style.css, but I guess I need to do mods for each viewport section.
I can’t get the slider (content element = slide) to work if I set a new category in the category filter. With “all categories” everything works just fine. However, if I choose one single category (with the exception of the WP standard category) the slider disappears.
Examples:
Filter set to “all categories” = ok
Filter set to “general” = ok
Filter set to “some new category” = no slider
Is there an option to show only sticky posts in the slider?
Thank you!
actually also anyway to make the sizing huge but responsive? just noticed looking at the responsive layouts. the text which has been adjusted by the PX is much larger than the Headings
The heading fonts seem to be limited to 40px, I would like have very large fonts, anyway to do this without changing the CSS?
Thanks
Hi,
you might try “The Unarchiver” which is free in the Mac app store.
This does support the 7-zip file format.
What I use personally on BOTH my Macs and PCs is the robust, awesome and super useful WIN-RAR, which is $29 but will decompress ANYTHING:

I did a cache search in Google for my site http://www.factfiend.com and found that there are many files cached that shouldn’t be.
Such as this: http://www.factfiend.com/td_d_slug_2/
How do I remove these files. They serve no purpose and the search engines may be confused by them.
You can see there a few here: https://www.google.com/search?num=100&safe=active&q=site%3Afactfiend.com&oq=site%3Afactfiend.com&gs_l=serp.3…3797.5164.0.5348.9.9.0.0.0.0.82.508.9.9.0….0…1c.1.32.serp..9.0.0.nVxCCI9vWEA
Thanks in advance.
I bought this theme partly cause the way it looks on the demo regarding bbpress.
There for I do wonder why the to say the least ugly original bbpress layout shows up here and there in the styling. It seems to me the theme is not coded all the way to maintain a good bbpress layout or am I wrong?
Second thing is I now have a problem with my layout.
The regular news flow page for my site comes with no page title whilst a new made category suddenly got blessed with a ugly headline naming the category a headline that is cut of in half and all pages – including original news flow – suddenly are missing out on some kind of padding to the menu making them look very ugly. If I could have uploaded a file here I could have showed how.
I already had to give up the shop feature on my site due to insanely broken layouts regardless my actions when installing this theme on our site and these new findings are not making me a happy camper..
