- NewspaperWP Rocket and Newspaper Theme: Optimization Guide
Hello,
We are currently working on the website:
https://www.sostenible.com.mx/
We are having an issue with the page editor / builder. The pages are no longer editable through the builder, and on the frontend the content is being displayed as raw Visual Composer / WPBakery shortcodes instead of being rendered properly.
For example, the homepage is showing content like:
[vc_row][vc_column][td_block_ad_box spot_id="custom_ad_2"]…
[td_block_2 custom_title="ACTIVIDADES PRIMARIAS"]…
[/vc_column][/vc_row]
The site was originally running an older version of the Newspaper theme, version 7. Everything was working correctly before, but the issue suddenly started. We then migrated/updated the theme to version 12, expecting the problem to be resolved, but the issue still persists.
Based on what we are seeing, it looks like the problem may be related to Visual Composer / WPBakery Page Builder, because the builder is not loading correctly and it appears to be asking for a license or activation. Since the content depends heavily on Visual Composer / WPBakery shortcodes, the site is currently unable to render the pages correctly.
Could you please help us review the following?
Confirm if the bundled Visual Composer / WPBakery plugin included with the Newspaper theme is active and compatible with version 12.
Check if the plugin requires a separate license or if it should be activated through the theme package.
Verify why the shortcodes are being printed as plain text instead of being parsed/rendered.
Confirm if there is a missing plugin, corrupted builder installation, or compatibility issue after the migration from Newspaper v7 to v12.
Let us know the recommended steps to restore the page builder functionality without losing the existing page content.
The main issue is that the website content is still stored using Visual Composer / WPBakery shortcodes, but the builder is no longer processing them correctly.
Thank you.
Best regards,
Adalberto Larios
Hi,
It could be done like this https://forum.tagdiv.com/set-block-inside-post-content/ It’s a workaround because normally there’s no option to add a block inside the post content unfortunately. But it should work fine. You could try it. The block can use any of the available sorting methods, including the popularity options https://prnt.sc/ahstUYPvaqt0
You could also check out this plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/intelly-related-posts/ or similar plugins. They can automatically display related articles inside the post content.
Thank you!
Hi,
I think I’ve seen that happening before on a few websites. The ads were loading in the composer edit screen, making it hard to use. You could use an ad blocker extension in the browser, and activate it when you want to use the composer.
If I may ask, how is the auto ads code loaded on the website? Is it with a plugin, or added in the theme panel, or by a different method?
Thank you!
Hi,
I’m using the Newspaper theme and I’d like to add a “Read also” box inside Single Post Content, for example after the 4th paragraph of every article.
The box should display a link to the most popular article from the last 24 hours (using the Newspaper Popular Posts data), excluding the currently viewed article.
My questions are:
1. Is it possible to insert such a dynamic block inside Single Post Content, e.g. after a specific paragraph?
2. Can this be done using the built-in “Ads after paragraph” positions with custom code?
3. Is there a Newspaper function, shortcode, hook or API that allows retrieving the most popular post from the last 24 hours?
I’d prefer a solution without additional plugins and without modifying core theme files.
Thank you!
Few months ago I putt google adds on website.
From few days it shows even in tagdiv editor..i can use it..it blocks half a screen…is there a way that adds dont show when I edit page?
Hi,
While I haven’t tested the plugin myself, I suggest using a regular post loop in the search template, meaning either of these two -> https://prnt.sc/SjVO_yiOaVck So not a flex loop, or a flex loop builder, or a block.
From what I see you are using a cloud template for the search results, is there no option to edit it with the composer? There should be one directly in the admin bar -> https://prnt.sc/Bsw1_b8OQH1j Or the option from the cloud library dashboard -> https://prnt.sc/lLMGfC8RQPvS
Then replace the flex loop builder that you are currently using in the search template with one of those two basic loops. Then it should work. If it does, then all that’s left is to customize the design of the loop to match the website a bit.
I hope it works fine.
Thank you!
Hello,
I’m using the Newspaper theme (version 12.7.6, with tagDiv Composer) on my live news site zzpnieuws.nl, which has an archive of 1,100+ articles. I want to use the Relevanssi search plugin to improve site search, but the search results page returns no results when Relevanssi is active.
What I’ve confirmed:
– With Relevanssi active, the search results page (e.g. /?s=schijnzelfstandigheid) shows “no results” for terms that appear hundreds of times in my archive, even though Relevanssi’s index is fully built and correct (1,122 documents, ~139,597 terms; posts and pages both included) and all Relevanssi settings are correct.
– The moment I deactivate Relevanssi, the theme’s native search works again immediately and returns the expected results. So the theme search itself is fine; the conflict is specifically between the search results template and Relevanssi.
– This persists on the latest version 12.7.6, with all caches cleared.
I’ve read an earlier reply from your team (Bettina) to another user, suggesting to edit the search page with tagDiv Composer and use a Flex Block with the filter “Search: Current Search” and no offset value. I’d like to apply this correctly but I’m not sure which template controls my search results page.
My questions:
1. Which template controls the search results page in the Newspaper theme – is it a Cloud Library template, a dedicated Search template in the Website Manager, or the theme default? I have a custom archive page that contains the search form, but the results appear on a separate /?s= page.
2. How should the Flex Block (“Search: Current Search”, no offset) be configured so the search results respect Relevanssi’s output instead of the theme’s own query?
3. Is there a recommended filter or hook for this that survives theme updates, rather than editing a core theme file?
I have a full backup in place and can provide temporary admin access through the official support channel if needed. This isn’t urgent – native search is working as a fallback – but I’d like to know the correct way to integrate Relevanssi with your theme.
Thank you,
Marco Weeber

After a couple hours of troubleshooting, I have figured it out. There will be more issues to get a hang of, so let’s stay in touch! I’ll record a video explaining it, so it is easier to understand. Basically for now I am manually changing the content on each post, but I want the global template to load the content in advance–at least, the placeholder blocks, such as the general theme you see here: http://everydayexplanations.com/how-touchscreens-work/
I would want the global template to basically pre-load the title, content block, image 1, h4 block, and image 2. This way I don’t have to type into the post editor each of those items. For now, at least it pre-loads the title for me. The rest I have to do manual.
To further clarify: the goal is for each post to be unique for all the items I mentioned. I just want the placeholder blocks–the items–to all load up when I create a new post.

I bought the theme just today and was trying to get the hang of things. When I click the “Edit with TavDiv composer” button, I get the following error.
Ooops… Error 404
Sorry, but the page you are looking for doesn’t exist.

Hello,
I’m using the Filter Everything Pro plugin to filter ACF fields.
It works fine, but only with the post loop. Is there a way to filter Flex Blocks as well? Does anyone happen to know a solution?
Another option would be to display the post loops for a specific category only.
Hi,
It looks like there’s a problem there. I tested with the video embed element which I believe you are using as well. Some of the properties of the video iframe cause a problem with how the color gradients are applied.
I can provide some CSS for it. Something like this would work as a base code
.td_block_video_embed .wpb_video_wrapper::after {
content: '' !important;
width: 100% !important;
height: 100% !important;
position: absolute !important;
top: 0 !important;
left: 0 !important;
z-index: 1 !important;
display: block !important;
background: linear-gradient(135deg, rgba(30, 219, 46, 0.26), rgba(0, 0, 255, 0.4)) !important;
pointer-events: none !important;
}
The angle and the two colors can be modified in it -> https://prnt.sc/JR7V6Zn7rpLu
This will affect all the video embed elements. If you have multiple embeds and you want different colors, then it will have to me made more specific and multiplied. I’ll help with it, let me know.
Thank you!
Displaying only a specific level of sub-categories or specific categories isn’t possible unfortunately. That filter is designed to enter the type of taxonomy, not terms from them. So for example it won’t work if you enter the slug of a category.
What about this. If you want to provide the option for visitors to filter a block based on specific categories, then you could just use a block and the ajax filter. That way you can display just the categories you want via their IDs -> https://prnt.sc/2bjedsQOXYvK So visitors can click on those to filter the block.
Thank you!
Hi,
On our side it looks fine, the key is assigned correctly to the respective website. Despite the theme being registered however, if the key verification fails then it means there is a problem.
When you access the license panel the theme tries to connect to our server and verify the key, then return the key status and the associated websites and display them in that panel. If that verification fails, then it will display the error you are seeing. It could mean that something is blocking the theme or external connections in general, maybe a security setting or a firewall.
Maybe the security changed made during or after the attack are also blocking the theme. Are there maybe any logs to see what is being blocked? Or could they be deactivated temporarily to see if the theme is working?
Thank you!
Hi,
Currently I see the following elements -> https://prnt.sc/LNdvZOMXUzho
1. The post title.
2. The post excerpt.
3. The featured image.
4. A block title.
5. The post excerpt.
The post excerpt itself isn’t added in the post template, the template only displays it. It is either automatically picked from the post content from the beginning -> https://prnt.sc/uYbn5FLLKvrd -> https://prnt.sc/U7EANAB2F1uc Or if you set a custom excerpt then that will be displayed -> https://prnt.sc/92FpDHKSwT8p
Please make sure that you add the post content element in the template as well, I assume you want to display the content of the post -> https://prnt.sc/AlbCWaqiuPr0
If you are building your own post template and you are unsure of how to do it, I suggest checking a ready made one, simply import one and check what it contains https://prnt.sc/xSoqTMwMVeQC
And let me know if I can help more.
Thank you!
Hi,
That won’t work unfortunately.
While you can display the disqus comments using code in the post template, the theme has no connection to them and it can’t fetch the number of comments made through a different commenting system than the default wordpress comments. So the comment count displayed on blocks can only display the number of comments made through the wordpress comments system, not something else.
I’m afraid that something like that isn’t possible.
Thank you!
Hello, tagDiv team. I am using Disqus comments with Newspaper theme. I need to show comments count on main page. I checked Theme Panel -> Blocks settings and enable the comments. My posts have many comments but only “0” shows in comments counters on main page. https://i.imgur.com/0uzbBW5.png
The data I mentioned is not in files. The data is kept in tables in the database.
I don’t think it’s the data from socials because that can’t get out of control.
Are you using any video playlists on the website? https://forum.tagdiv.com/video-playlist-2/ Although these should also not get out of control.
Are you using the block cache from the theme on any blocks? https://forum.tagdiv.com/use-flex-blocks-cache-option/ Normally this works with transients, and they are automatically cleared when new ones are created. There could be cases when the transients aren’t getting removed automatically and they pile up.
Then all that’s left is a log for debugging, which is disabled by default. I suggest starting with this. In the database, in the wp_options table, search for an option name called td_011_log like this https://prnt.sc/REaK59LeuNFW Delete that log https://prnt.sc/UUIL1VFCvErj Then check the system status panel to see if it loads.
Please be sure to search for and delete that exact table, td_011_log Not anything else. If you maybe have a staging site clone test it there first. Or if you try it on the main website, then please make a full database backup before doing anything.
Let me know.
Thank you!
Hello tagDiv Team and Community,
I wanted to report a severe, obfuscated malware infection targeting the Newspaper theme ecosystem that I recently diagnosed and cleaned. The malware specifically targets mobile users while executing stealth tactics to hide from logged-in administrators.
Here are the technical details of the exploit to help the security team and other users:
1. The Behavior:
Mobile visitors loading the site are immediately hit with a 302 Redirect chain. The network analysis showed the site calling a rogue script masquerading as an ad network: [https://async.gsyndication.com/](https://async.gsyndication.com/). This script then loads a Yandex tracking tag ([https://mc.yandex.ru/metrika/tag.js](https://mc.yandex.ru/metrika/tag.js)), which triggers the final destination spam redirect (e.g., varors.com).
2. The Entry Point / Core Infection:
The script dynamically prepends an obfuscated PHP code block to the very top of wp-config.php using an eval(base64_decode(…)) string. When decoded, the script explicitly avoids injecting the malicious payload if the request URI contains paths like /wp-admin/, /wp-json, or wp-login.php, effectively hiding the redirect from site admins.
3. The Active Backdoor Location:
After cleaning wp-config.php, the file was repeatedly re-infected. Running a server-side file modification search (find . -mtime -2 -type f) isolated the live backdoor execution directly inside the td-mobile-plugin directory.
Files inside wp-content/plugins/td-mobile-plugin/ (specifically Mobile_Detect.php and custom code panel handlers) had been compromised and modified by the attacker to act as a persistent script injector. Every time a mobile user-agent touched the site, the plugin dynamically rewrote wp-config.php to maintain persistence.
How it was resolved:
Completely deleted the compromised td-mobile-plugin directory from the server.
Cleaned the wp-config.php file and stripped the eval block.
Implemented define( ‘DISALLOW_FILE_MODS’, true ); and hardened server file permissions (chmod 440 on config).
Please look into how the automated bots are injecting code into the td-mobile-plugin directories, and let this serve as a warning to other webmasters to check their mobile plugin files if they experience ghost redirects!
The issue is happen on all of our reviews (hundreds of individual pages).
Our Single Post cloud template started as a blank page and was made custom with TagDiv Composer. The Review summary block comes at the very end. The structure of the page looks like:
-
Single Post Content
Single Post Review Summary
Single Post Review Overall
Could this be why the review metadata is appearing outside of </article>? If so, how can we fix it?
HI,
Maybe it happens because of the bot fight mode, is it enabled in cloudflare? If so, I suggest disabling it temporarily to see if it still happens https://developers.cloudflare.com/bots/get-started/bot-fight-mode/
I see that while I’m browsing your website normally, I’m being blocked sometimes https://prnt.sc/hQXMybujAehe
If the bot fight mode isn’t the cause, then it must be something else from the Security tab in the cloudflare dashboard. I suggest checking the security events log to see if you can find legitimate actions that were blocked, the reason should appear there.
Let me know if you find something.
Thank you!
Hi,
I’ve seen such issues before. Usually it means that something is interfering or blocking the composer. I can find out more if I can check with the browser inspector. Please send an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide a link to the website and admin login. Please also include a link to this topic in the email. Then I can check to see what’s happening exactly.
Thank you!
The image can look like that in the block. The module of the block can have a portrait aspect ratio to fir the image better. If I use the image from your example and this layout https://prnt.sc/eNdkLXleuPSj the image looks good. Here they are side by side https://prnt.sc/NJu90aqhUYHS
The thumbnails are created automatically by the theme when you upload the images in the media library. An option to manually resize or crop them isn’t available unfortunately. The module of the block can however be customized so that the image looks good when displayed in them.
Thank you!
The name of the post type for that plugin is ajde_events
So if you add that in the post type field of the block -> https://prnt.sc/N60F4x3wBFCZ the block should display events. You could try it.
Thank you!
I’m using the Video Block in tagDiv Composer on a page (not a post) with a self-hosted video (no YouTube, no Vimeo, just an MP4 URL).
Before the video starts, I want to show a custom poster image, the same way you can define a thumbnail on Vimeo.
I don’t see any option for this in the block settings.
– Is there a built-in way to set a poster image for a self-hosted video? If not, what’s the recommended approach?
– What image is shown by default? First frame of the video?
Thanks!
Hi Newspaper/TagDiv support team,
We are running Newspaper theme version 12.7.6 on our WordPress site (https://www.opisantacruz.com.ar) and we are experiencing an issue with the mobile menu not opening when tapping the hamburger icon on mobile devices.
Here are the details:
**Issue:**
The hamburger menu icon is visible in the mobile header but tapping it does nothing — the menu does not open on Safari (iOS) or Chrome (Android/iOS).
**Setup:**
– Theme: Newspaper 12.7.6
– Page builder: TagDiv Composer
– Mobile header configured in TagDiv Composer with the “Mobile menu” block set to “Mobile Theme” menu
– WP Rocket plugin active with “Delay JavaScript execution” enabled
– WP Engine hosting with server-level caching
**What we have tried:**
1. Excluding tagdiv_theme.min.js from WP Rocket’s Delay JavaScript execution — menu still not opening
2. Excluding /td-composer/legacy/Newspaper/js/tagdiv_theme — menu still not opening
3. Excluding tagdiv_npm — menu still not opening
4. Excluding /wp-content/themes/Newspaper and tagdiv-composer — this caused a blank page on article URLs and had to be reverted
5. Clearing all caches (WP Rocket + WP Engine) after each attempt
**Console errors detected (Chrome DevTools):**
– [Violation] 'setInterval' handler took 133ms in tagdiv_theme.min.js?ver=12.7.6:236
– Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token '.' in swg-basic.js:1
– Two 404 errors: /wp-content/cache/min/1/wp-content/plugins/td-composer/css-live/assets/external/ace/snippets/text.js and ace/mode-less.js
**Question:**
Which specific JavaScript file handles the mobile hamburger menu toggle in Newspaper 12.7.6, and what is the correct way to exclude it from WP Rocket’s Delay JavaScript execution without breaking other functionality?
Alternatively, is there a recommended configuration for using Newspaper 12.7.6 with WP Rocket’s Delay JavaScript execution enabled?
Thank you.
