The bundled version of the WPBakery page builder provided with theme would be the same as the premium version in terms of functionality, minus some features.

The front end version will be disabled by the theme unless that code mentioned in the topic is commented or removed. It was a decision made a long time ago, because the theme blocks, grids and other elements may not display properly when using the front end WPBakery.
If you want to use it, try the suggestion from the topic, make tests.

Or simply use the tagDiv composer which is a front end page builder. We will add more options and new features specifically for the tagDiv composer, over future updates. Also the cloud library plugin will work only with the tagDiv composer

Our them comes with tow composer, tagDiv Composer ( we recommend to you, because you can use the cloud template ) and WPBakery ( Visual Composer ), you don’t need to activate, just follow the steps from documentation.

There will be problems with some elements or their functionality when both the tagDiv composer an WPBakery are active. We recommend that only one page builder should be active and used to build the website.

There were optimizations made since the tagDiv composer was introduced, theme blocks and grids look properly with both page builders. Also now posts built with WPBakery should not be affected by the tagDiv composer.
But there still are conflicts in some cases simply because both are active, regardless of what the page contains.

You should consider to decide which page builder you want to use and stick to it. Weigh the pros and cons of each. As a note, the cloud library plugin can only be used with the tagDiv composer, most new features will work only with it, all the demos are built with it.

You seem to be using the Newsmag theme, not Newspaper. Note that this is the Newspaper forum, the themes are different. I will move this topic to the Newsmag theme forum.

Regarding the images, there are’t any effects or animations to choose from with the tagDiv composer. Also with Newsmag the composer is limited in terms of available elements and settings.
If the images are blurry, make sure you are setting a bigger or full size of the image

In case you use a thumbnail or small size the results may be blurry.

What I mentioned above with the cloud library, this is only for Newspaper.

That is not difficult to do. You can create may row layouts with the tagDiv composer. For example simply split the row like this

You can use the larger section as main content, the smaller as a sidebar. Add the elements you want in each of them.

Note that when both page builders are active, some elements may not work properly. It would be best to choose one page builder and only use that one. The single image element will be affected by both, the image effects from WPBakery may not work (or other settings).

You can use a homepage from cloud template, and you can edit the template how you like ( https://forum.tagdiv.com/tagdiv-cloud-library-plugin/ ).
Or if you like to keep the current template please provide your url for a closer inspect, in this way I will be able to give you a custom css.

Unfortunately, the theme does not have any such an option for this, sorry! Also, if you want to customize your posts with TD Composer, you can try using the Cloud Library which allows you to use our page builder for posts.

Predefined blocks and grids (all except flex blocks and grids) will use predefined thumbnail sizes, cropped by center top. The results will be different according to module used and also affected by the image aspect ratio

Only with the flex blocks and grids you could control the images by some parameters. You could experiment with the flex blocks and grids which have options to manipulate the image

1. That’s unusual, so this happened after the update and by it’s own? Looks like there still is a gradient set for the modules. That gradient is set in the flex block->style settings-> module color overlay

If no value is added manually there should be no gradient.

2. I see the problem you mention, I will add it on the list and it will be investigated and a solution will be found. A solution which will work is to make a small modification in the cloud library plugin

Remove the condition as shown around the code, then if the value is at 50% (default) the images will be truly centered. Let me know if this works, in my tests it seems to work.

1. Jetpack can indeed be resource heavy, if you don’t use it for anything you can deactivate it. This plugin is on our tested plugins list but it is optional to use it, not required. The theme will work just fine without it.

The cloud library plugin is provided by us, it is optional as well. Here you can see what you gain by using it

2. The speedbooster plugin is also optional. it will deactivate itself when it detects plugin that are not part of a predefined list
