Hi,

Emil replied you via email!
Regarding Instagram embeds please test this without any plugins active and also make sure that you empty all caches, purge fields and disable cloudflare’s script rocket loader then test again.

Thanks

Did you try to ‘regenerate’ your thumbnails ? This is often necessary when some elements of a theme change markedly and some modules/sizes change. Your site may have had temporary versions of the new sizes, and they no longer exist due to how your files are stored (e.g., CDN, Jetpack, etc.).

Try the “regenerate thumbnails” plugin. If your images need to be make larger, not supported by WP, add the “thumbnail upscale” plugin first; then run the regen plugin. (Both are free plugins, and essentials.)

If you’re using Photon from Jetpack this is common issue with theme updates and you need to refresh that. Theme has no control over how your images stored on Jetpack or other CDN cloud systems.

Hi,

Unfortunately there is no option to customize tag cloud widgets like on tagdiv blocks, but you can do this via custom css in Theme Panel > Custom css like Christopher already suggested. Just use browser’s inspector tool and see the css code used – http://screencast.com/t/98q7AYurvbB take those classes and customize it via css.

Thanks!

You can change any of the styles however you wish with custom CSS.

Simply look at the page source for the widget on the page, or use the console (F12) in Chrome to highlight and inspect that element to reveal the CSS used.

Then simply put in the CSS styles you want for those elements in the custom CSS panel in the theme panel.

The tag cloud widget is part of the default WordPress widgets and not a theme widget. Some folks simple use a custom plugin for a tag cloud which gives you control over what items are shown, sizes, fonts, colors, etc.

If you have no idea how to write CSS, simplest thing is to look at many of the free plugins:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/search.php?q=tag+cloud&=Search+Plugins

A lot of folks on these forums (TagDiv) seem to be using this one:

I also have a question Not sure if anybody will know the answer.

I’m running an image heavy site, at the moment i am uploading all images to my sever and am using Amazon Cloudfront as the CDN for my images.

But i was thinking how do sites like buzzfeed do it. Do they upload all images to their server or do they have an external cloud storage system like amazon S3? Also there a way to have an upload image system like imgur.com, where you can just add the URL of the image and boom it’s stored on your server?

Hi,

@juncan347

That’s happening due to jetpack photon module which acts on images from your post and pages and creates resized thumbs for them which are stored on WordPress.com cloud and delivered at request.
You can fin more details on it here: http://jetpack.me/support/photon/
We don’t recommend using that photon module as it tends to create issues sometimes so we suggest you disable it.

Thanks

Hi Chris:

Thank you for your quick reply. I check with my hosting, i am using cloudflare for ddos attack prevention but not really any cdn (at least I don’t know) Anyway, now it seems working.

my hosting tells me that the images not showing are using links like this:

http://i1.wp.com/cisocial.net/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/images/no-thumb/art-thumb.png?resize=100%2C65

do you know anything happened? what is i1.wp.com is it jackpack? How can I prevent it happen in the future.

Thanks/Jun

Clear all your caches.
You can also try to regenerate your thumbnails if your images were being loaded via CDN/cloud.

Issue is not with theme — all themes using Visual Composer as a “drag and drop page builder” are having this issue. And this only impacts some servers. We’re using NewsMag on two high traffic sites right now; one which gets a lot of traffic every day, the other gets large hits “depending on the content.”

Not sure what “SmartMag” is as this is the “NewsMag” forum, but if you read my thread then you don’t need to worry …

a) use the theme with current Visual Composer; might not impact your site/CPU depending on how your server is setup.

b) if you have a large CPU hit you will know immediately, and you can switch to using the SHIM plugin.

c) if you have a VERY high volume traffic website (e.g., millions of page views per day) you should be building a “lean framework” which doesn’t have all the pre-built options baked in, as this is not as efficient as a lean framework where you have as little as possible — e.g., TIME magazine is running on a version of twenty-fifteen theme with some custom plugins to manage editorial matters. No page builder, but lots of stuff running via cloud for fast “edge loading” via the Automattic premium platform. In that situation you would be custom building a theme to fit your needs not buying a $50 off the shelf product.

d) in our case we chose the TagDiv folk to redo our news network sites because 16 months ago when looking around they were one of the VERY few who had some clue about pagespeed optimization beyond so-called “SEO READY” … meaning, some thought given to page speed and not just “feature bloat” with some meta tags built in. We had built our own lean framework which was a pain pre-bootstrap, in 2011; went to Woo Canvas in 2012; went to TagDiv end of 2013 (has it been that long?).

But like all CMS platforms where you have a platform running on top of php, then theme(s) running on top of that, then plugins and hooks going into that, there is always a dev/test process on your end to see what works, what needs to be massaged, and what won’t work at all in your particular environment.

If you’re starting a NEW news site, I don’t think you need to worry about high traffic at this stage, as it takes awhile to build that unless you’re using bots or entirely click-bait with paid adwords per story to drive that.

————–
so, if you reads my thread you know
a) they have a fix NOW that works for those with high CPU issues
b) not all users of Visual Composer have an issue
c) the folks who make VC (not TagDiv) may optimize or fix memory issues in future version; TagDiv has NO control over that beyond working with the WP Bakery developers on the issue.
d) they may “roll their own” sideways version of a page builder which is more ‘lean’ at some point, but obviously that takes a bit of time to develop.

So, have fun and build your site 🙂

I’m having some issues with the mobile menu. It sometimes works, but sometimes doesn’t. For example, it might work on the home page but in a post page it won’t work. Then I’ll go to a category and have it work, then go to another category and not be able to open it. This is using an Android device’s internet and Chrome browsers. When I view the mobile responsive view on a desktop the mobile menu works perfectly.

I’ve already tried testing all my plugins and do not have minification of javascript enabled in my caching plugin or cloudflare. Rocket loader is also turned off.

Could you look into this and see what might be causing the issue? Website is: starbuckssecretmenu.net

Thank you!

CDN’s, Cloudflare, Cache plugins all help ease off the RAM pressure.

Hi,

Unfortunately theme doesn’t have an option for this, but you can do it via custom css in Theme Panel > Custom Css.
Date – http://screencast.com/t/epJIMMQAnE

header .meta-info .entry-date {
color: red;
}

Tag cloudhttp://screencast.com/t/ffbWxhyDQ

.widget_tag_cloud .tagcloud a {
background-color: green;
}

I’m not sure about the number of comments where you want to change the color:
-post – http://screencast.com/t/ASDa2wFaKGP5

header .entry-comments-views {
color: blue;
}

-blocks/modules – http://screencast.com/t/XTYcrRM6Lu

.td_mod_wrap .entry-comments-views {
color: blue;
}

Thanks!

HEY!!
note to all having this issue … not a new “theme bug” per se;

this actually caused by install of WP 4.2 and *not* the theme update

… one of my sites running 1.6 which I just updated to WP 4.2 now has this same issue with just the “categories” widget — none of the other widgets affected I’m using (might impact other ‘default’ widgets; but not impacting tag cloud

CSS “printed” on page:

<aside class="widget widget_categories"><div class="block-title"><span>Categories</span></div><label class="screen-reader-text" for="cat">Categories</label><select name='cat' id='cat' class='postform'>

Tags cloud is not managed by theme; but you can look at the WordPress Codex on how to add config to the functions.php file; or find a better plugin than the default WP widget (the tag cloud is not part of theme; but a default widget).

And wow the service you’re using to use for a screen shot launched a popup to a live video sex site … might want to use something else for that (!).

Hey guys, great theme and a well sorted update.

I have a little problem with my main navigation.

A couple of months ago I set all of my pages to be pulled from their respective categories as I thought this would lessen strain on the server and reduce the number of calls to visual composer but after doing some testing the performance wasn’t noticeably different.

I’ve now decided I would rather like to add more functionality to the new pages through VC so I have changed all of the menu items back to having their own page so they don’t pull from the category.

Now I have all of the pages in the main navigation set to pull their respective page in the wordpress backend via Appearence/menus as you normally would but when I refresh the home page and click on my Navigation items they still pull the content from the category and not the new pages

I have refreshed the permalinks, cleared all of the caches and tried it in several different browsers but the problem remains.

I did activate cloudflare on the site a few weeks ago and then decided to turn it off, I am wondering if the site is still being fed content from cloudflare even though it has been off for a month or so? How I would go about checking this.

I have had a few weeks off from developing this site whilst waiting for the new update so it may be something simple that I am overlooking.

Any ideas would be very welcome

I also have a little problem with the navigation in Chrome and firefox on my android tablet. The main items in the nav bar are fine, the sub pages show when you press the nav item and they work fine but the main pages in the navigation don’t open when you click them, just the drop down appears and you can’t access the main page.

Please let me know your thoughts

Many thanks

John

No way to fully remove the “render blocking” issue unless you custom engineer your website from scratch to load pages in “chunks” — which is virtually impossible with off the shelf product like this; so technically you will almost ALWAYS get that warning. So, the “goal” would be to address everything ELSE, and “tune” your site without any external elements being loaded, then switch back on the external stuff (e.g., adverts, etc.).

I don’t use Cloudflare, so not much help there.

The reason I don’t provide “support” anymore is I don’t work here; and every server and setup has different issues which are unrelated to how “I do it.” So, not much help for some things like CLoudflare — I stopped using our Amazon CDN for just such issues like IE randomly not loading font awesome, and Firefox just is a P.O.S. with a whole slew of java issues (e.g., our old ecom system won’t load via mod_SPDY with FIrefox, but works with every other browser known to man — forced me to turn off mod_SPDY and having to migrate our ecom to woocommerce … !). Stupid FF.

Thanks for not bugging me …
The other reason I stopped answering some questions is people would not bother to actually READ my help post and ask if their htaccess file was okay. 😉

I have not bothered putting anything in the speedbooster plugin as not a huge help with most stuff; and many plugins that I use actually have option to load JS in footer anyway, so no need to hack that into the plugin.

Upshot — I have not used the plugin beyond its default settings, since mod_pagespeed takes care of a lot of things (except the latest update which was being overloaded by a legacy site with a loop of doom with timthumb…. but woo taking care of that finally..)

blah blah. Anyway… sorry no magic answers today !

First off I love this theme, and I recently switched from Multinews theme. One thing I miss from that theme is the audio format. On a future update can you guys possibly add an audio format for soundcloud?
THanks! =)
