The theme has been developed to be fast but it may still need configurations on this matters so test your site using google’s page speed insights testing tool(or gtmetrix) and make sure you follow the guide instructions and methods then test your site again.
First of all deactivate all plugins except Visual Composer, clear all caches then test your site page-speed again. In terms of speed we have made a page speed guide and covered the most important aspects that google notifies you of (image optimization, js/css render blocking and more..) and based on which it classifies and grades your site’ regarding speed. 147KB for the home page is no longer considered “large” by today’s standards.
15 years ago, we tried to keep pages to no more than 50kb total. But now with wireless being faster than modems back then, larger resolution displays, more images, etc. — 200 – 300kb pages are no uncommon. 1MB is a lot. 147kb is not.

If you want to have a good speed for your website, you need to optimize your site for optimized images, caching. Also, please use the Tag Div speed booster plugin. The theme cannot fix your content or your website or hosting.

The theme code was tested and optimized for best performance, we have a lot of clients and the theme works well on a large variety of hosts.
First please make sure that you use the recommended server configuration for Newspaper theme, you can check our documentation for more details: https://forum.tagdiv.com/newsmag-requirements-for-newsmag/
There are lots of factors that influence the site’s page-sped. I suggest you first try this without any other plugins active, leave just VC plugin active the check again. To improve the loading speed look the mysql query cache: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/query-cache.html we also use it on our demo.
Also you can use the speed booster to move the js and css at the bottom of the page, eliminate render-blocking, but not for all plugins. Check the System Status if the speed booster is active if you use other plugins than the tested ones. I made the changes that you suggest. And I made changes at step 5 on that this page. I allowed all plugins for speed booster, I added $this->move_js_to_footer(‘ID’) and $this->move_style_to_footer_queue(‘ID’); codes for moving js and css files to bottom. Now I have blank pages. I can’t see any pages. All blank. So I deactivated Speed booster. Is there another way to move js and css files to bottom? Thanks.

The guide on how to make your website faster does a pretty good job of explaining the process. If you cannot follow along on all of the steps, unfortunately you will have to get someone to help you in this matter. We can only guide you in the right direction but you are the one that has to do the adjustments.
Please try to disable your plugins as well as speedbooster has a compatibility list built-in that makes it deactivate if your plugins are not compatible. You should definitely contact your hosting provider for the gzip compression.
Please follow every step of the tutorial closely and check your modification after every step to see if there is any improvement in pagespeed.

Not over here. In fact, most servers are prepping for upgrade to PHP 7 which is MUCH faster for WordPress.

That is how Google works, and has the past decade. If you have breadcrumbs they will show
website URL > breadcrumb > breadcrumb
they don’t show the permalink or the story title when breadcrumbs are in place.
The reasoning is that it makes it faster for somebody to navigate in SERPS
eg.,
The Story Title
www.site.ooo > books > science fiction '
so, on news/content sites, it would allow somebody to go to the two main “topics” the story is under, vs the direct link from the story title.
That is how Google has used breadcrumbs since they added them to SERPS (our main news site has been online 16 years, and Google has always done this since being able to “read” the breadcrumbs).
So, it’s a navigation aid. Also, typically the down arrow will note the story has been cached in case site is down temporarily or unreachable.
To only show the permalink, you can turn OFF the post breadcrumbs.
So it’s not an “issue” — it’s a “feature.” 🙂

I thought Newspaper theme was PHP7 compliant.
Unfortunately we’re not going to downgrade PHP. Simply too many benefits of the much faster PHP7. But I was wondering if the error is due to a missing extension. Could possibly be PHP-GD or maybe ImageMagick missing or? I haven’t check the source for the functions you guys use, but there are no error reports in the logs.
Site won’t launch until mid April, so still some time for PHP7 support for Newspaper.

Simply replace the last bit of code with the one above and use it like before. If all the render blocks do not appear yet, add a greater number than 20 in there and test again.

Hi, today we migrate the site to Nespaper Theme it is very inestable because, some module, is using a sql query than is puting down the server.
I used all the recomendations, using cache, optimizing all in my hand to make this site faster.
But the SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS is making the querys and the site very slow, i choosed delete from my home page and single page all the functionalities that may be was using “pagination and sorting results”. But some query is still there.
In the logs of the server i can see only this.

Please note that speedbooster has a compatibility function inside it’s code that causes it do deactivate if your plugin is not on the list. There is a workaround though. You can remove this code: http://screencast.com/t/RZLIOPUNdqh if you want to use it with any plugin.

Your images are not loading at all at the moment because you have a js error. Please disable all plugins except visual composer and clear your cache (and reset cdn if you use it). Then you need to identify the plugin that causes the error and remove/replace it.

Well, the CSS and Java in the page helps it load faster by NOT having to load external sources and helps to deal with the above the fold loading, and mobile loading. Some things work better inline than external these days.
In other words, some CSS and JS “inline” loads faster for above the fold (render blocking …) vs waiting for the entire separate file to load, hence why this is now donw, which was crazy talk in olden days.
“Critical CSS” should be loaded with the page itself, then supported elements “later.”

I’ve stopped using some plugins due to the extra CSS crap included and no way to disable, or allow the plugin to “inherent” theme CSS (e.g., <LI> and <UL> stuff).
I also hacked one plugin to remove their CSS and just put it at bottom of the style.css and shazam.
I feel your pain; actually dealing with this right now on another project which is NOT using TagDiv themes due to a long boring story.
I really hate the form scripts which load the FORM CSS on every page and not just the actual FORM page. Requires creating custom page called “form” and then manually putting the CSS for plugin on THAT page vs having stupid if/then on every site page to NOT load it conditionally which is also dumb for resource queries.
