Some of the footer templates come with predefined content and others are blank templates, more information here – https://forum.tagdiv.com/footer-templates/ If you want to have just your own content in the footer, select an empty template – https://www.screencast.com/t/Bn9NUU1sh and add your content in the widgets section.
To remove the post author name on blocks and modules go to Theme panel->Block settings – https://www.screencast.com/t/jlRInAea and disable it there. You could use the calendar widget available as a widget – https://www.screencast.com/t/HZreerRjG or in Visual composer – https://www.screencast.com/t/zTlqB9JYO but if you need a complex calendar with more options and possibilities, you must search for a plugin that can offer them as I can not make any recommendations because no such plugins are tested with the theme. Just try a few of them and select the one that you like.

Please read the footer template documentation as the footer predefined content is explained there: https://forum.tagdiv.com/footer-templates/
The short version is: the first 2 footer styles come with predefined content. You can add widgets in the footer 1, 2 and 3 but in these footer styles it will show up after the predefined content that is already present in the footer.

Unfortunately updating from a very old version such as newspaper 4 will need some elements to be recreated. the sidebar implementation was changed, some elements from the old theme were removed, some elements were added and so on. You will have to re-create your pages in visual composer. The post templates, the header styles, the footer styles, they will all be different as they have been changed over the years. Sorry for the inconvenience but updating from such an old version will require a bit of extra work to do as it will not be a smooth update such as updating from version 6+ to 7+

You can remove the block title border with this code, enter it in Theme panel->Custom Css

It will work only for block 16 on your page (Calculator), if you want to remove the bottom border on all the block titles on the page use this code instead

1. If you want full header/footer display, do not set a background color or image. When you set a background the theme will automatically transform the site into a boxed version.

If you want to remove these elements, simply switch to an empty footer style and then use the 3 footer widgets to ad content to the footer.
