Best way is to make a new row in your homepage layout in visual composer and add the text there. Does not need to be at top of page, can be anywhere on page — such as bottom of page as a description of what your site is all about. H1 tags are an HTML tag and must be part of visible text, not in the META data.

Hi everyone,

Where are the categories such as TRENDING NOW, POPULAR NEWS and WORD CUP 2016 (on the sports demo) defined in wordpress?

Hi there,
I LOVE Newspaper! I just used the theme to upgrade my WP site and here are a few challenges I’m having:

1. The Page Template Setting: At the bottom of my homepage is a pre-defined template called Home Page Latest Articles. I would really like to delete this entire section because it’s a duplication of the content in the upper part of the page. But if I can’t delete it, I’d like to figure out how to change the content. Right now my site is in maintenance mode, but I can send you the login if you need it.

2. Just want to make sure I understand about “filtering” a category. If I set a block and I want it to show just one category, do I have to type all the other categories in so they won’t show up? Or do I type in the one category that I DO want to show up?

Thanks for your help. I’ve purchased many, many themes on Themeforest but this one is the best by far!

Hi,

Yoast also has this option to disabled the author achieves: http://screencast.com/t/rKPUYVBAb which when enabled redirect the user to the homepage so you could make sure that this option is unchecked then test this again.

Thanks

Check your Yoast SEO plugin, if enabled, to see if you “disabled author pages” in sitemap or similar.

Hello!

My question is the subject has a share? Can I use shortcode or which otherwise use?

For now I have a problem, I’m using a plugin “really simple share”.
This really simple share is a shortcode and I added in block_4.php but to navigate the options it breaks.

Hi there

I’ve made a mega page menu
http://www.superelk.com
It’s the “more” menu

It’s aligned correctly on the homepage.
However if you go to a different page eg
http://www.superelk.com/home-style/

The “more” menu on dropdown is squished to the left.

Just thought I would share my site and a few observations on what I’ve changed that make the biggest difference to the look of the thing.

https://unplug.tips/

The biggest thing that I find has the most impact on this theme is the font, it’s well worth getting your font’s in order, it makes a huge difference and the standard theme font is so ugly it’s untrue (sorry tagdiv)

Second biggest thing is sectioning off areas of the homepage to only show selected content, hiding little content gems for your visitor to find that don’t appear anywhere else, in the big grid or in the top menu 🙂 adding different backgrounds to differentiate content areas and using the carousel to split the sidebars, I hate seeing sites with the sidebar unbroken, all down one side. WordPressy springs to mind.

I’ve dumped the footer, man I hate wordpress footers

I also hate the wordpress blog roll below the VC content area, I’ve sectioned this off to only show posts from 1 category and made that a kind of stand out area for interesting articles from around the web, I’ve not decided on exactly if it will stay like this but I hate the “latest news” type content areas especially when you have each different content element displaying the latest article anyway. Separate everything and you wont need to use the unique articles setting which breaks my site anyway

Some of the less relevant categories have been omitted from appearing in the big grid to try and preserve the websites core message, I just found that having every category appear randomly as they were posted sometimes confused the thrust of the sites message which is travel on a budget, unplug, escape the rat race and that sort of a vibe. I try to alternate the posts so the big grid doesn’t get filled with one type of post but that’s not easy when you can only think of one thing to write about lol

My other pages haven’t really been thought out properly yet, I’m going to leave that until I have more content on the site, as it fills up I will split the top level pages into more categories to make it easier to navigate.

Looks like I’ve got a lot more work to do on writing articles and UX, I’d love to get some customisation of the CSS to change the look on some of the buttons and stuff but that’s something i’m not gonna mess with yet, it’s been hard enough getting to this point……….

Just need some visitors now lol

Cheers

Hi

The theme doesn’t have an option to display different types of ads on the site, for example the header ad will be displayed from the same spot on all pages and posts. If you want a different ad for homepage you need to add a condition in ads.php file like here: http://screencast.com/t/BqOhbFzqqpGS and insert the shortcode corresponding with the ad spotthat you want to use. To get the shortcode add an ad box into a blank page then switch in backend editor copy and paste this code: http://screencast.com/t/Kcqsjk9C7xbU inside do_shortcode function
For the ads from page content you can use the ad box block and use the corresponding spot for your ad: http://screencast.com/t/YlkV5d5yke

Let me know how it goes.
Thanks!

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the quick reply, sorry if you had to repeat the same things again.

1) So in my case, is it recommended that I run the import script, which is also known as the update script?

2) Where do I find the import/update script? (I’m in the theme panel and I can’t find the link, help)

3) Is the import/update script method no longer constitutes a clean install?

4) What is the correct sequence of events to start my update?
– Back-up entire site, database (done)

– Don’t use FTP as “there may be issues” (I have always updated using FTP method, so which is the safer method to update?)

– Please make sure that you delete the following files from Newspaper 4:
page-homepage-bg.php
page-homepage-bg-loop.php
page-homepage-blank.php
page-homepage-loop.php
page-homepage-timeline.php
(do I delete the above files via FTP first?)

– Update Visual Composer and Social Counter when updating from V4 (so do I update them before or after updating the theme?

5) Do I still need to export my current theme settings if I’m using the import/update script?

6) Can I use the 6.5.1 pack to update from 4.6.3?

Thanks again for your help.

1) see the theme docs >> right side of page on how to upgrade from 4x to 6x — and YES! 🙂

https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/

2) I think that is covered in the docs … or was …

Updating from Newspaper 4:

Newspaper 6 is a whole new theme that we release for free to our existing customers. The old version of the theme can be found in the /old_version folder.

We recommend that you do a clean update, meaning that we recommend that you delete the old version of the theme before uploading the new one. If you do a ftp update over the existing theme there may be issues. Please make sure that you delete the following files from Newspaper 4:
•page-homepage-bg.php
•page-homepage-bg-loop.php
•page-homepage-blank.php
•page-homepage-loop.php
•page-homepage-timeline.php

Please update Visual Composer and Social Counter when updating from V4

Updating from Newspaper 4: Please run the import script if you want to update from an older version of newspaper but only after you backed up your settings. After running the import script it may be impossible to roll back to the older version of the theme without a backup of the database!

The import script does the following operations:
•Imports the old settings to the new theme
•Renames all the shortcodes from your pages to the new names
•Imports all the sidebars
•Renames all the widgets from the sidebars to the new names

3) TagDiv does not do the upgrades for you; but you can hire folks to do that if you don’t know how.

Hi again boys and girls. 🙂

I’d like to customize the display of my posts on my homepage.

I’d like them to react in the same way as thise site : http://www.be-street.com/

1 ) Aka when the reader will hover over the display, a little fade will appear with a brief description and a read more button.

2) Also, I’d like to add my own social icons next to the category button on the upper left like the website above. How can I achieve that ?

Thanks in advance for your feedback ! 🙂

Hi Andrei,

I tried all that before creating this thread and nothing worked. This is the error I’m seeing in Chrome’s javascript browser console:

Also, most of those errors you’re seeing are likely coming from ads/3rd party javascript. And to reiterate, the “load more” button and infinite loading work fine on our homepage, but it doesn’t work at all on post pages.

Hi,

To set the homepage of your site, just select it from setting-> reading: http://screencast.com/t/TBMdunlqA.
Any page you create will appear there for you to set. If you select the “your latest posts” option, your homepage will be a blog homepage which will display all your recent posts.
You can read more about homepages in our documentation: https://forum.tagdiv.com/homepage-how-to-build-and-set-it/
You can also check out other topics there as well. I’m sure you will find lots of useful information there.

Thank you for your message.

Hello,

Please help with the following.

1. When in “normal” vertical mode, the slide displays correctly when site first loads. No problem:
Mobile display - vertical mode - no issue

2. When viewed in horizontal mode, title and image get distorted.
Horizontal view. Issues with post title and image.

3. When returned back to homepage, issues with thumbnail and title text. Also, additional white spaces show up below the slide.
Vertical issue - ging back to home page form horizontal view

I need your help with resolving this issue if possible with custom CSS.

Thanks!

Hi,

If I understand well you have Social Counter in your page but you cannot edit it. Please edit your homepage and the Social Counter block should be added directly to your page content via Visual Composer. Provide a link so I can inspect this.
The theme doesn’t have an option to add social icons to the subfooter, you will have to alter the code in footer.php file and modify a little bit the social icons code from td_footer_extra_bottom.php file – http://screencast.com/t/Qyzqo0oWYMAz
Please make a backup of your current footer.php file and test this code(replace the entire content of the file) – http://pastebin.com/dL03CAKa After this you can customize it via Custom Css in Theme Panel > Custom Css – http://screencast.com/t/u03OggUOMW5z

.td-sub-footer-container .social-footer {
float: right;
}

Thanks!

Hello,
You can also create a page in visual composer something like the one on our demo: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/homepage-blog/. And add it in your menu. You can then chose which block element to display: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/block-1/ and set a particular category to the block: https://forum.tagdiv.com/block-settings-tutorial/
I hope this helps
Thank you!

Hello Navito,

The easiest way is to use the blog page: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/blog/
In order to do this you have to set your homepage to ‘your latest posts’: http://screencast.com/t/60dfnITGbuXM
Or you can create your own blog page using visual composer like this one: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/homepage-blog/ – and set it either as a homepage or as a menu item.
I hope this helps.

Thank you!

I have a widget I’ve been using with the Newspaper theme since I started using V4 back in January 2015 that loads the latest posts from the homepage below the comments section of every article. I use “infinite load” up until it hits about 15 posts, then from there, you’re supposed to be able to click the “Load More” button to continue loading posts (instead of it loading forever and ever and ever, etc.)

For some reason, all of a sudden, this is broken on my site. I don’t know how long it’s been like that, as I’ve just noticed it myself when I was previewing a new article and noticed it wasn’t working. I changed the settings so that “infinite load” is turned off, however, the posts still don’t load, even when you click on “Load More.”

Also, the feature works fine on our Homepage – http://gossiponthis.com

The issue only happens on post pages – http://gossiponthis.com/2015/09/30/watch-katy-perry-gets-felt-up-by-presumably-rolling-fan-rio-video/

How can this problem be diagnosed and fixed?

Hi I’m creating a site for the company I work. This will be a web-series and promotion for a show they’re starting. I really like the layout and functionality of the Video (Newspaper) version of the theme but something we also need is a blog. Somewhere that a co-worker can easily post. How can I go about doing this. If i make a post it’s always going to be part of the “blog” and I’d like to separate the Homepage and Blog. I’ve created two pages “Homepage” and “Blog” and I know i can choose what category the videos on the home page are, so i can create a “Homepage” category and choose that every time i want it to appear. But the blog should be only text articles mostly, and not have the “Homepage” videos by default.

Anyway to separate the two?

Hello,

I am getting odd sized images in the homepage slider that don’t fill the box. I have used Thumbnail regenerate but they are still not right. You can see this at http://www.aboutluxurycruising.com

“<b>Fatal error</b>: Call to undefined method td_page_generator::wrap_no_row_start() in <b>/usr/home/diania.tv/web/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/page-homepage-loop.php</b> on line <b>67</b><br />”

Hi equima,

This console error refers to your twitter widget: http://screencast.com/t/Wgn2epWUzj0http://screencast.com/t/oG5nMMnF I’m not sure how that error show’s just on homepage but I suggest you try to use a wp text widget for your custom code and the widgetised sidebar VC elements to place it on your homepage then test this again.

Let us know how it goes and if this persists address us via email at contact@tagdiv.com including a link to this conversation and also give us wp-access so we can have a closer look at this.

Thanks
