I’ve just installed Newspaper on an established site. I installed the reconfigured Newspaper demo (without content). My category pages look fine, but all I get on the home page is a list of the latest posts. How do I fix this and is there a way to configure which categories render on the home page (and in which order)? I’ve tried two of the other demos with the same result.

We’ve installed (and love) the newspaper theme on our site. We’re currently under construction and testing and have come across a strange issue.
We link to other sites from both pages and posts, and in every case we use the ‘insert a link’ within the WP editor. We select the ‘open in another window/tab’ checkbox, but we are getting mixed results. On pages and some posts, it works as expected. But on other posts, it’s either opening the link both in the same tab as well as another tab (in chrome), or only in the originating page (in safari).
The only thing we can narrow it down to that we’re doing, is the issue seems to pop up when we use “Post Settings>Smartlists”.
Is there something we’re doing wrong or can fix via CSS?

If this this issue appears on other themes it may be a server or wordpress configuration problem. You could try to test this on another host or on a local install.

You can try using a different regenerate thumb plugin like Force regenerate thumbs https://wordpress.org/plugins/force-regenerate-thumbnails/
Also check if you have the right permissions for uploading.

Another thing you can do is check if you have GD Library Installed. You can see it in your cpanel. If not, contact your hosting provider.

Hi, i want to customize and make the theme for my site but don’t want the users to see it before its done.
How can i activate the theme but only for me to use it and use another theme for regular visors. Its not good idea to stop the site for me to activate the theme and start working on it in production, please tell me how to do that.

Hi — I just switched to the Newspaper 6 theme, and installed the regenerate plugin and run the procedure.
But if you look at my page (http://blog.kozzi.com) the theme is not using regenerated thumbs, it’s using the full size images that was uploaded at the ‘Featured Image’ (right click and download the thumb on homepage downloads the full size image)
So I tried a fresh post with a new images and still — same thing.
This is greatly slowing down my front page.
The grids of visual composer don´t work.
I spoke with visual composer support and they tell me this:

The issue is because there is an inbuilt version of Visual Composer (or the related code) present in your theme which is overriding the standalone plugin version and hence causing the issue. You will have to get rid of it. I would advise you to do so with the help of theme author, otherwise you might loose the extra elements added by him. Once this is done, you can install the standalone plugin and it will work fine. Kindly check.

just sharing that we installed WordPress Social Login 2.2.3 and testing it , there is a big issue that it does not properly retrieves users’ email from facebook, users have to re-type their email address to get through. this might not a big issue but not a smooth process either.
We are trying many facebook login plugins, almost each one has its own issue..argh
Basically, just substitute your code from //show login widget to //if no menu in header-menu.php
Keep in mind that “_mi _before foundation-icons fi-torso” is an icon from foundation icons font. So you have to have the font installed or substitute icon for whatever you want.
Also, class “create” is another link that I use for when a user is logged in to show another icon, you can obviously delete it. In addition, some of the original code still there, in case if I need get back to original login menu.
In fact, if you just need a simple login logout the code could be much shorter.
I deactived all the plugin but with no success.
In the System Status panel I found this:
SUHOSIN is installed – it may cause problems with saving the theme panel if it’s not properly configured
Could it be the problem? What is SUHOSIN and how can I solve this?
The demo images are not for sale and therefore not included with the theme purchase. Instead, you get the default demo images that a lot of WP themes get. It’s a licensing issue and one that is noted somewhere, either on the demo site, on envato, or in the documentation; I forget where.
As for the grey areas around the images, install the plugin for regenerating thumbnails (Theme info panel has info for it and so do the docs), run it, and your images will fit the spaces provided.

I just purchased the Newspaper theme and I installed the Newspaper 6 demo into WordPress. Everythign with the install went fine, but when I go to view my site, the images on the home page different than the ones shown in all of the video tutorials. Also- the images on the big slider on the homepage have a grey overlay to them. For example, rather than seeing the face of the blond girl like the examples show, my homepage shows an image of a bridge. Please help!

It may have effects on that functionality but nothing that I’ve been able to find. I don’t believe the Heartbeat API is used by Newspaper for those features on the front end since my installation (Newspaper and NewsMag before that) had no issues. The plugin I mentioned doesn’t stop Heartbeat from working but it does reduce the numerous needless calls that WP makes to it in a lot of cases. Sort of depends on what other plugins you use but you really just have to try it out and see if another plugin’s admin settings/controls stop working… that’s the most likely scenario though I haven’t found yet.

Try to disable all plugins except for Visual Composer and see if the issue is still there. If the issue is gone enable the rest of the plugins one by one until you find the one which is causing this issue.
Also try to install a query monitor plugin, and check the memory usage.

Hello there, I found the issue of plugin which incompatible with the revslider. it is the jetpack plugin. the thing is when the jetpack is activated the revslider will show just normal. but don’t let this trick you.. it will become error when you connect the jetpack to your wordpress account. i just activated the “publicize” and some others which is automatically activated when the plugin is installed.
Perhaps, it will be compatible in future.. because i need the “publicize” feature.

If you want SB to work properly and not to break your site, then you have to modify (or ask authors to modify) each plugin or theme, which are not following the good coding practices. Speed Booster itself is only trying to rearrange files positions, it is not a caching or minify plugin, so you can run your website without it too 🙂
Exactly, that is what I am doing with my site. Not using the speed booster plugin because it is better without it. I mean I am using plugins that are not tested by Tagdiv. Like All In One SEO and that to me I like better. Some other plugins too, and I rather not have issues with Speed Booster that actually slows the site more than without the plugin installed.
Speed Booster is not a forced plugin to use, but just required and its optional.

I am not a tagDiv team member, but will try to explain the situation with Speed Booster. I think I get it correctly.
In the ideal situation all css files will load in header and all js files in footer for webpage speed. This is what is recommended and what Speed Booster is trying to do. But this is not required rule and every plugin or theme developer can follow it or not. If some plugin or theme is loading js files in header, this is because plugin’s author created it this way and if Speed Booster move it in footer, the plugin may stop working properly.

Well, keep in mind some theme developers get swamped with RTFM support questions on how to use WordPress, how to install WooCommerce, and folks who decide to completely change their site layouts/design 10 months later and want another hour of free support to teach them how to do basic CSS fixes, or “where do I download my file update from ThemeForest?” — so, at some point there are good reasons for two kinds of support.
Presumably support for the THEME should be free; but basic “where do I log in to WordPress” questions really should be limited as folks need to take ownership of learning to use the platoform and stop expecting the theme to completely manage a website.
Just my two cents.
On the other hand, I’m not renewing my Canvas/Woo licenses, after paying for them several times over. Their last support ticket took 5 days for reply, and they didn’t provide an answer on how to fix something they changed back the way it had been for 5 years. Answer was, too bad, sorry, for something related to having sidebar visible on iPad portrait.
