Yes, WordPress “reports” and update is *available* but you don’t need to have it. You can just ignore it. Nothing earth shattering is going to happen if that notice is there, and your site isn’t going to stop working if you don’t have that.
Actually, the theme folks *do* put in code to stop the “nag screen” from showing up, but the people at VC keep changing their product, and so that keeps coming back when it really shouldn’t.
You can’t change the name of the product/as it’s a licensed version, so that is why it must be installed and activated as a normal plugin. Blame the VC folks for how they license this to theme developers, and not the theme folks. With the hundred different theme houses bundling VC with their themes, it’s a great product, but this is one of those annoyances.
Yes, you *do* need to manually update it if/when a new version is provided with theme update. You don’t need to update the plugin unless you plan to keep changing your layouts again and again.
So, again, see the theme documentation regarding how this works.
TIP: when you see an update available – do NOT just go and update it – go check and see if it has problems, breaks something else, etc. — for instance, one Disqus update added a cross scripting vulnerability, one version of Yoast SEO broke a whole bunch of things and took 5 fixes in a week to sort that out; AddThis plugin added a blank 10px space at bottom of every page on websites; took 6 weeks to fix. Etc.
Just because a new update is shown in the update panel does NOT MEAN YOU NEED TO INSTALL IT. This is part of learning the WordPress ecosystem.
Sorry if this neither helps or educates, but thought I’d share for anybody else freaking out about the topic. It’s really a non-issue.
Found a solution…
I installed the Newsmag-child theme and copied two files from the bbPress installation into the child theme:
- loop-single-topic.php
- loop-single-forum.php
Both of these files can be found in wp-content/plugins/bbpress/templates/default/bbpress.
Paste both files into wp-content/themes/[child_theme_dir] where child_theme_dir = directory of your child theme, usually Newsmag-child unless you’ve made changes to the name of the theme.
In these two files are multiple references to size => 14.
- bbp_get_topic_author_link function handles the avatars under the “Author” column (left-most column in forum index views).
- bbp_get_topic_last_active_id function handles the avatars under the “Fressness” column (right-most column in forum index views).
I am sure there are more times when avatar sizes are being set by bbPress (and I will post them as I find them when I go through and do some cleanup). But, the best way to find them on your own is do a search for the CSS container for the avatar (ex: bbp-topic-freshness-author) in the bbPress template files. Once you find the template file, copy it over to the child theme and make your edits.
Pretty simple once you figure it out!

Hey,
After a little more digging, I think this should be called a bug.
If bbPress is truly supported by the theme, theme buyers shouldn’t have to do more customization in order for it to look as it should.
I did find one topic on the bbPress forums: https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/change-avatar-size/
Basically, in order to make the thumbnail itself bigger, we need the thumbnail to be defined in a template file as part of the main theme install. Since editing core files is a no-no (from a bbPress and theme perspective due to updates), the only way you can fix this (it seems, please correct me if I’m wrong) is to install the Newsmag-child theme, add the different bbPress template files, and edited the values in those newly copied template files.
Yes it worked before. But I think because I had the theme installed on my other page before, but I deleted the whole wordpress instead of deactivating it first, so maybe it went wrong there.
As I tried it to activate it on the page with [envato username], [api secret key] and [license key]
Thanks for answering tho ^^
Should work. Mine does. Basically you have a license code from the downloads for the theme, for the theme license. This is entered in the NEWSMAG theme panel, with theme panel active. If you have Newspaper license that won’t work with Newsmag or vice versa.
If you don’t have theme installed, it’s impossible for the theme to ask you to activate theme.
You don’t enter theme activation in Envato plugin, but in the theme panel when theme is properly installed and selected/active as current theme for site.
Theme activation also has nothing to do with Visual Composer plugin, which is bundled with theme and needs no activation key.
Hope that helps. Maybe not. đ
First of all it says : Invalid liense key. Please check information in your envato profile.
But anyways, I had this theme installed on my WordPress site, and deleted it. Now it keeps saying the line above. But I don’t have the WordPress sites installed anymore, so it “can’t” be that it’s already activated.
How can I fix this that I can use my key again?
Thanks in advance
gtmetrix score very good. page speed grade %95 yslow grade %91.
i do not use adsense or other ads. i tried to reinstall this theme but same problem. đ

Hi, we noticed the same thing when you have the speed plugin installed that Newspaper theme recommends. This for some reason causes the Ajax to not work properly, therefore causing the post count to not work. Then ajax next post feature seems to also not function after activating the speedboost plugin. Hope that helps. But we had the same issue. Maybe the Newspaper team can look into this.
Hi, we tried to update the Visual Composer released via FTP and plugin upload. It will install fine, but when you try to get back onto the site or backend, you get a blank white screen no errors. We have to then delete or rename the plugin folder via FTP to get the site back up. Any input would be greatly appreciated, the CHANGE NOTES on Visual Composer are pretty lengthy and would be good to upgrade to this version.
Kindly make a note and address the following issues in the upcoming update. Most of it may seem minor, but they’re actually causing setbacks. More also, the theme needs to fully integrate with it self rather than installing plugins which disrupt the theme’s overall design.
1. Smart List: NEXT and PREVIOUS buttons should also appear below each smart list. That is, readers should not scroll back up to move to the next smart list.
2. Ajax Implementation in forums: “You must be logged in to create new topics” LOGGED IN should link with ajax.
3. SOURCE/VIA links: should link to a new tab, not override the page.
4. AUTHOR BOX social links: should link to a new tab, not override the page.
5. Post Share Count: On posts, let the “SHARE” show the numbers of shares and remain “SHARE” if there’s none.
6. Related Posts within a post: Option to add Related posts inside articles paragraph.
7. Option to Remove Pinterest Button from Posts.
Hi,
Great idea to start a thread on this.
I’m just setting up the Newsmag theme with WordPress on A2 Optimzed hosting, this wordpress install comes with A2’s own plugin and W3 Total Cache pre installed and customized to make WordPress run faster but obviously not for this theme as we are having an issue with how the plugin and the theme interact
Basically we have disabled all of the cache functions in W3 total cache and the theme runs fine, as soon as we run it with the page cache it pushes all of the posts to the left side of the page.
I am running this site with site wide https:// and the problem only seems to occur on https:// for the other prefixes www and http the problem doesn’t appear.
We will be testing the plugin further over the weekend but it is difficult to tease out the functionality of W3 on it’s own as it is integrated into the A2 hosting plugin, had I realised this from the beginning I don’t think I would of gone down the W3 route but we this is where we find ourselves.
I’ll let you know the results of our testing.
Hi,
We’ve checked your site but unfortunately we couldn’t determine the reasons for this issue, if this still happens without any plugins activate and with the WordPress default themes then this could indicate a WordPress install issue or it could be server issue which is not related to the theme.
You can also see here a discussion about this: https://theme.co/x/member/forums/topic/custom-post-formats-not-working-in-renew-stack/
My advise is to try this with a fresh WordPress install and check this before installing any plugins or theme and check to see if it works.
A work around would be to use the featured video filed to set featured video’s thumb as a featured image then add the video to the post using it’s url and set your post to use the gallery format to remove the video thumb from the post.
Ex:
post configuration: http://screencast.com/t/iohl0yE9KDTz
result: http://screencast.com/t/zb9CpNU7
Hope this helps!
Thanks
My question is do I need to install a plugin to use TinyMCE?
Thank you for your timely reply.
Hi,
Please make sure that you download and use the latest theme version (1.4) then remove the tagdiv social counter plugin and install it from the /plugins folder that was provided with theme files: http://screencast.com/t/apG7ZmCneBC
If you still have issues after this make sure that you also check this without any plugins active then check again and also provide your site’s URL and more details about this.
Thanks
Hi,
Please check the version of tagdiv social counter widget you use and if it’s not version 2.8 please remove it then install it from the /plugins folder that was provided with theme files: http://screencast.com/t/apG7ZmCneBC
Thanks
Lucin,
I’ve re-installed WordPress 4.1 and installed fresh copy of Newspaper Theme but the problem persists.
I don’t want a refund since I love this theme although it was good of you to offer. I’d really like a fix.
I have to say that I had this very same problem with a previous theme and used a workaround whereby I posted the video in audio format but the Newspaper theme doesn’t list audio format so I can’t try.
Do you think this is a WordPress problem?
Regards,
Derek
Thank you.
1.about the TinyMCE,do I have to install the plugin?
2.not this one .The logo I mentioned is the one with a loop sign at left:)
oh okay. I have no clue how to solve this caching thing now. Should I install any special plugin for it?
Hi,
The problem was the reCAPTCHA from A2 Optimized plugin, I disabled it and installed a new one.
Now its working.
One more question, I would like to know how can I change the size of the blocks Titles

Thank you very much!
Not a “problem” with Varnish; we just had the other caching options pre-installed with our setup and just needed to implement them, and no reverse proxy stuff. Also mod_pagespeed already had a function to connect to memcache for speedup, so it made the most sense than experiment with Varnish.
Lots of folks do use it however.

I should also mention we’re using the memory based caching because we have 32GB RAM on our dedicated server đ

Have you installed and tested the plugin/extension for Visual Composer you want to use?
It works for me …. see: ga-ga.com ….
be sure you did a “clean” install of theme, and deleted old folder and uploaded new folder (don’t “over write”).
Also if using child theme, a LOT of things changed, so you may need to update child theme files if you didn’t do that.
Hi guys,
i’m thinking about install Varnish in my Centos 6.6 dedicated machine, but first i’m trying to get some feedback if there are any known issues of this layout (Newspaper) using Varnish?
By now i use W3 Total Cache with memcached and everything works without bugs.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
Make sure to have the GD library installed and also that you have writing permissions on /wp-content/uploads and also check your /uploads folder and see if the thumbs are created.
Thanks
