I am blogging at http://www.manilashaker.com, there’s currently on spike on our site traffic but the site become slow and unresponsive for most of the time.
Our server prodiver pointed to

And the news mag style.css is one of causes. Is there a solution to this with the heavy coding from a developer?

This is a js error that is originating from an optimization on your site maybe a minify? or a simple plugin conflict. If you know to have any js optimization, please remove it or if you are not aware of such optimization then please disable all plugins except visual composer, clear cache and reset cdn files.
Then check the mega menu again.

Wp rocket is one of the most perfect cache plugin in the world, but isnt perfect. Something happend whit the code when you minify, etc and if you monetize your site you can has earnings drops 🙁 . instead if you use comet cache Pro, your site can be blazing fast as wp rocket, whitout break anything.

This is one of the trade off using commercial wordpress template.. theme developer provide a lot of feature, but perhaps you only use 20-30% of them. Is there any solution ? yes, you will rely on several plugin to optimize your site:
1. Gonzales WordPress plugin, i use it to exclude script and css in a specific pages. Do you realize that if you use COntact Form 7, the script will get loaded on every page of your site.. that’s absurbs
2. Unused-css.com. It will browse your site both in desktop and responsive to find unused css selector.. for my site using visual composer, it reduce 83% of total file… for newspaper it reduce 30%, and newspaper ships with unminified CSS, so you can have extra kb on that
3. Cache Plugin. this is the real booster begin, i’m using WP-Rocket.. it support for page cache, gzip compression, defer javascript support, combine and minify script… really a major requirement when you need to speed up your site.
Is all 3 100% reliable, not really.. first you need to backup and then you need to test your front end, and make sure all of this three improved your site speed to the max.
Last but not least, your server resource also matter.. don’t expect to have good performance with low quality of server (especially shared one).

1) Please contact your hosting then and let ask if there is any caching set automatically and how to clear it. Make sure you also clear wp super cache.
2) The footer logo on the mobile theme can be removed with this code:

1. There’s no cdn and I am on a budget server so no control over server caching as well. I use wp super cache and that has been setup as mentioned in your documentation.
2. Thank you for sharing the code. It removed the About section but I can still see the logo in footer :/

I been trying a plug-in called ” Defer CSS Addon for BWP Minify ” It has improved my loads speed dramatically from 6 seconds to 2, problem is when page loads there is like one second where you don’t see styles
than the mobile menu appears and despears instantly. It is kind of wird but my site has never been faster. Any chance you guys test this plug to see how it can be set to work properly with newspaper.
I know is of scope but at least may give you inspiration on how to improve speed overall for enwspapper
I am open to suggestions from other users too!

Almost 4 seconds is a killer. Remove WP Super Cache and try WP Fastest Cache. Enable compression, minify, and others.

Next, go to MaxCDN and buy the least expensive CDN for your site. Set up a pull zone and use WP Fastest Cache to connect it to your site.
Also, disable the speed booster plugin. Worry about getting that caching working for you.

Content and page load speed are far more important than Google’s recommendations in Insight. It’ll also depend on where you get your traffic – some of the best sites are not perfect in Insight

Instead of WP Super Cache, try https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-fastest-cache/ and check on the minify options in the simple settings for WP Fastest Cache.
Worry about the render blocking after you’ve done some of the easier things. Currently there are over 106 requests going out to the server. The plugin should lower that number for you by combining files and getting rid of several other “optimizing” plugins currently active.
Most of the errors from post content that cause errors in AMP plugin can’t be fixed by a theme.
For example, if you use the “center” element in WordPress, that is an inline style, which should never be used in modern HTML, and only done with a class like <p class='mycenter">Sub Head</p> and not <p align="center"></p> … similarly, bad plugins which inject javascript into the AMP endpoint or “all templates” can’t be solved by theme, or AMP plugin, or cache plugins which minify the AMP endpoint template … these are all site issues unrelated to theme typically or the AMP plugin — only you can resolve that.
So, fault of AMP plugin “not working” is not the fault of plugin, but the content and OTHER plugins you’re using.
But again, most theme devs will *not* be adding AMP support as that won’t fix inherent problems with OTHER issues, like the ones you experienced and they don’t have time to help people fix their content for a $50 theme.

Having an issue where images are not loading properly. Additionally, some other Javascript aspects of the theme have stopped working. This comes after updating to 4.5.2, and minifying JS files. Debugging reveals several errors in JS files, namely JQuery files.

I’m having difficulty with css and Javascript minify, I’ve tried some plug-ins which performe this action, but they blocked some theme features like Ajax filters for example.
When hostgator turn on my website once again, I’ll check my website by GTmetrix.com what’s going on precisely, thanks for now!
Dont worry, Minify code can positively affect your SEO score because your website loads faster 🙂
Compress 2 or more codes in one can damage your score because it takes longer to download a large file 🙁

1. I have no added plugins active other than the ones you supplied.
2. I have installed your speed booster plugin and activated it.
3. I am using only your default demo and your content with no modifications.
4. The pagespeed insight still gives me terrible readings of 28 for mobile and 32 for desktop.
5. Other themes give me 70-100 for both so clearly the issue isn’t with my hosting.
6. After running pagespeed insight and activating ONLY your plugins, I get the following for mobile:

Just to get your opinion- WPMUDEV has released what they call Hummingbird plugin, which supposedly takes care of this stuff. Do you think it’s safe to use it with this theme?

Please try to disable all the active plugins, leave just Visual Composer to active, clear all cache and install only the plugins that come bundled with our theme and rule out the conflicting plugins. Also, if you have some additional customizations through code or your have some minify files please try to revert these to the default state and check after this if your problem is still there.

If you are using “W3 total cache” or whiling to start you can do it with it.
Go to Performane – Minify (don’t worry no need to minify them), insert the url of the css and choose embed to footer from the dropdown.
That’s it.
You can do it for any css or js in the page.

I have checked your site again and noticed that you’re using Speed Booster plugin: http://screencast.com/t/fXvNrMNlPqWk When this plugin is active the js is loaded from tagdiv_theme.min.js so you need to edit that file so changes to apply. Best way to edit the minified js is like this:
– first make the required changes in tagdiv_theme.js
– copy all code from tagdiv_theme.js and use a js compiler to minify it: https://closure-compiler.appspot.com/home
– copy the minified js code and paste it in: tagdiv_theme.min.js
