2. Can you please let me know how to add vk.com share buttom?
3. What is a proper way of adding code to functions.php file in the child theme? When I simply add code here https://gyazo.com/c829207705804e51f76ee0dde7401ca9 nothing happens. The changes apply only when I make them in functions.php file placed in the mother folder (not child).
4. What is the proper way of using child theme? I made the following steps:
• I copied the child folder from here Themes\Newspaper-tf\code\Newspaper-child
• Pasted it to here /wp-content/themes/
• Then I opened functions.php file in the child theme and tried to make some additions, but nothing happened. I added the code here https://gyazo.com/100ac1b006855c8be7d7c14091e82559 But the code didn’t work. It worked only when I added it to the functions.php file in the mother folder of the theme
• So can you please advise what is the proper way of making corrections to functions.php file in the child theme? Did I do something wrong? Why it didn’t work?
5. Do you know any alternatives to CloudFlare Flexible SSL as it is not compitable with Speed Booster?
6. how to make the featured image cropped? For example instead of this – https://gyazo.com/72458b385e0f89a9d421657059e66e06 When the image takes almost all the screen, I would like to have all featured images cropped with specific size for example like here – https://gyazo.com/4abb6b786495c59078ab81851559cbeb – when the image smartly cropped and looks amazing. 8. Cache plugins. I have removed W3 Total Cache plugin according to your recommendations mentioned in the guide. I also noticed that you mentioned APC full page cache plugin. Can I use it with WP Super Cache or I should choose one of them? Which is better for me? I have 16gb of ram.
9. I didn’t get that suggestion “make sure that you have compression enabled on your site for html/js/css but not for images”. Where do I set that kind of compression? Do you mean Auto Minify in cloudflare – https://gyazo.com/771065c3f158d4b113b94c5e5f5e3e37 or something else?

3 and 4. It is named in the same way. So again. These are the steps that I do:

step 3. nothing happens
If I add the same code in functions.php which is placed in codebase folder — everything works properly. So the question remains — what have I done wrong? The names of the files are the same in both folders child and codebase.

6. It seems I asked the question improperly. I know that there is different crop options in different template. I meant – can you please let me know how to set different crop size to featured image in Default post template?

7. Sorry. It seems I wasn’t clear with my question at all. Let me build my question in a different way. The issue is the following, let’s say I have the article about Obama. And I set it to 3 different sections – I made the post featured + I put in Politics category and World category. It means that the article about Obama will appear on the home page 3 times. First time in the section with Featured posts. Second time in the section with Politics. Third time in section with World news. The question is how to avoid duplicating posts on the home page when the post is placed in different categories?

8. thanks. My hosting provided that he installed xcache on the server. Is it ok or it is better to ask him remove it and install APC for better performance of Newspaper theme?

9. compression is allowed at the hosting, but he told be that it is not enabled as CLoudFLare do gzip compression by default. Should I ask him to enable additional gzip compression at the server or the compression provided by CF is enough?

14. In my previous theme I added the following code in order to have custom tags.

}

That code added tags like country, people etc. So, for 5 years I gathered hundred of thousands tags in those taxonomies. After I switched to Newspaper theme — those taxomonies disappeared off course as I don’t have the code in functions.php When I tried added that code the site completly stopped working. Can you please advise how can I return those taxonomies I gathered for 5 years to Newspaper theme?

3,4) It seems we have some miscommunication here. I do not ask for customization. The only thing I ask is an explanation of what I have done wrong. I did everything according to your instructions (the steps I did are described above). The only question I have is what I did wrong and what steps were made not according to the instructions? I have already used child themes on 4 other sites I have with 4 other themes. So I have never experienced any issues in it. At other themes it works perfectly. I have read the documentation you provided several times and I did everything according to the manual, but it still doesn’t work. Really hope for your advise.

9. I do understand that. The reason I’m raising this questions is because it seems in your manual there is a discrepancy. So I decided to help you. You mentioned in the manual that we should use CloudFlare, but in the same time you mentioned that gzip compression is required. So if gzip compression is enaebled at CloudFlare by default, probably it would be helpful for the rest of the users if you mention that they do not need to enable gzip compression at the server when they are connected to Cloudflare, as otherwise two gzip compressions will be enabled: at CLoudflare (which is turned on by default) + at their own server. That is the only reason I mentioned it. I believe it really cool when people can help each other, that is why I mentioned it but not because I’m looking for support in the question. When people help each other for no reason, it makes the world better )

11. Isn’t it directly concerns proper work of the speed booster plugin? I believe if we resolve the issue, we will make the plugin better together, won’t we? If we resolve the issue, other users will never face it and will consider the theme as the best in the world.

14. Let me mention that I know the steps required to be made. That code perfectly works at any of my other sites, but it doesn’t work with newspaper 🙁 That is the reason why I asked for support here. For 4 year at my previous theme I gathered hundred of thousands taxonomies. All I want is to make my web site works with the new theme at least on the same level as it worked on the previous one. I would really appreciate if you could potentially consider a possibility of giving me a hand with this unusual question.

The code that I’m using was taken from your manual. It is not custom code.

So when I paste it in codebase functions.php — it works perfectly. WHen I add it to the child theme and remove from codebase — it stops working

please ensure that you are using the latest version of child theme which comes bundled with the latest version of Newspaper.

I’m using the latest version of the Newspaper theme as I have just purchased it and no updates information has arrived sinse then.

So the issue is that the child theme doesn’t work even though I make all the proper steps that are required to be made. 🙁 Can you please help?

11) Dear Catalin. I’m afraid you really confused me. I haven’t requested for additional customization. I’m requesting for proper work of the current version of the speed booster. I do not need additional customization. I’m totally fine with the current one. I’m asking for support as I noticed the plugin didn’t work for

No additional customization is required. What is required is a proper work of basic customization.

3,4) Catalin, I know it and I have already done everything that could have been done with that code and then removed it. I’m showing it to only as a reference of the code that should have worked in functions.php of the child theme, but didn’t work at all. If you don’t like that reference, please see one more code from your manual which didn’t work

But it doesn’t matter if the code is from your manual or not. What I’m trying to explain is that none of the code pasted in the functions.php of the child theme works. Neither yours, nor anyone else’s. That is why I’m asking to your help.

I’ve tested the code on my side an it works fine in both child and main theme. In order to have it working the thumbnails must be regenerated.
You can create a new cropping system only by using theme’s api but this is not possible in child theme. You will need to edit main theme’s core files or as an alternative create a plugin which crops the images in a different way.

What you’re trying to do is a custom modification which require good coding skills and the proper knowledge of this process. Keep in mind that we do not offer custom modification, they are not included in support policy.
Support refers at current features included in the theme and helping users to understand how they work. Anything related with extending current functionality of a feature or creating new ones means custom work and falls beyond the support can offer you. To customize the theme or change the way some of its features works you will have to proceed with caution and study very carefully how your changes will affect it. Also you will need very good coding skills as our theme is very complex and understanding how code works is not a “walk in a park” job.
If you are not aware of the steps you need to take to achieve your goal my advice is to look for someone which can help you with implementation or hire a freelancer to do it for you.

it seems there was a miscommunication. I’m not requesting for custom modification. What I’m requesting for is listed below:
1. Answering technical questions about the item’s built-in features, functionality and third party plugins — I’m requesting for explanation of how child theme works (which is build-in feature of the theme) for my particular cases which are not covered by manual
2. Help with defects in the item or included third party assets — I noticed that child them didn’t work for me and requesting for a assistance here
3. Answering questions about how to use the item — I’m also trying to get explanation of the part of the child theme work which is not described in the manual, as the questions I’m asking are not mentioned there

Also I’ve mentioned in my previous reply that I’ve tested jpeg compression from child theme and works fine. http://screencast.com/t/4qefyWgrJp6J Noe that I’ve regenerated the thumbnails after each modification made in child theme, otherwise the compression won’t take effect.

As for cropping system that cannot be overwritten from child theme as Catalin already pointed in its previous replies. I can be changed only by editing main theme’s files or creating a plugin.
