- NewspaperWhen tagDiv Composer is Not Working
- NewspaperRequirements for Newspaper
Hi.
Here’s http://www.recordere.dk. We’re running a +200-300 concurrent users site on WP/Newsmag.
The setup is Nginx->PHP 5.6->Wordpress->Varnish->Cloudflare
We have setup a child-theme, and made our own comments.php to use the Disqus module without any integration with WordPress except the embedcode. Commentcount is customized by our self.
We have quad-core CPU / 8GB Ram but load is usually 0.5 in HTOP.
We used alot of energy making the site answer rapidly.

@r1kay
we don’t use nginx as we have dedicated server with Xeons and 32GB RAM and gigabit switch, and don’t even need to use caching plugin due to mod_pagespeed and other stuff on server side. But main reason is we have some old cgi/perl/shtml/ssi stuff on our main business site — not using php — which still runs better than nginx for that stuff, and our 20 years familiarity with apache. 🙂
Hello everything works great except google font or webfont don’t know why it blocks other resources to render ??
check the given link and check font.googleapies.com and fonts.gstatic.com blocking time on waterfall?

looking forward you views on this 🙂 i am using nginx server
Hi,
I have checked your site and it seems that only the woff is excluded from the gzip compression – http://screencast.com/t/4vgPvJ0hNYp Please try the following guide – https://blog.bigdinosaur.org/gzipping-at-font-face-with-nginx/ and see if it helps.
Thanks!
You have to add a CORS instruction at your CDN for “cross domain” loading of fonts.
so you need to add this to your htaccess setting at your CDN:
# Apache config
<FilesMatch ".(eot|ttf|otf|woff)">
Header set Access-Control-Allow-Origin "*"
</FilesMatch>
nginx
location ~* \.(eot|otf|ttf|woff)$ {
add_header Access-Control-Allow-Origin *;
}
See the support for your CDN on how to do this.
Alternately, you can load the fonts locally for the icons.
Hope that helped. See FAQs for your CDN as they should have help on this.

Yeah I manually minified the js composer css (it’s the biggest file according to gps), didnt shave off that many. Pagespeed still says compressing (gzipping) the file would reduce it with from 600kb, from 750 to roughly 150. Most gzip testers say my gzip is enabled, but somehow GPS keeps telling me I could roughly shave of 2MB (!!) by gzipping all the css. So not all files al being compressed with my htacces rules. Im running a website with an older version of Newspaper on the same server with nginx and GPS doesn’t mention anything about compressing. Have no idea how to fix this…
Also, why do you prefer apache on plesk over nginx handeling php? I’m on a VPS (6gn ram) and my hosting provider said using nginx would reduce my pageload way more than apache. When I have over 2000 real time apache starts to flood the ram :/ That’s why I switched to nginx handeling PHP and configure WP Super Cache with it. Doesn’t break a sweat!
Have you “minified” the main CSS file?
Use the copy/paste minifier site I recommend, to replace your existing CSS file in theme folder. Shazam. 😉
or this one:
http://cssminifier.com/
basically make copy of your style.css file; then open original, select all, copy, paste into box, then minify, then copy the “minified” version into your original file put on the server. This compresses the file, which was the error most people see on google pagespeed — it’s not “compression” of the file via gzip, it’s compressing data in the file … semantics… 🙂
Try that if you hadn’t already…. !
Of course I’m doing plesk on apache, and not using nginx for the baseline stuff only some esoteric stuff.
Hey Chris, thanks for the quick reply, been a long time sincs we spoke. I know minifying isn’t the same as compressing. Google page speed says that compressing visual composer css version something something could save 750kb alone. I’ve run a webpagespeed test and it says that some files are gzipped, but a lot of then don’t.
I normally run wp super cache on plesk with nginx and have gzip compression enabled with some nginx rules, that works perfectly fine. But I’ve switched to apache and wp super cache with mod_rewrite rules and no matter what I try I just can’t get all the css and Javascript to get gzipped. Ive tried .htacces deflate rules and even tried a plugin to do the work for me.
I’m totally lost and think about switching back to nginx with my own additional config. What am I doing wrong?
Hi tomawebdev,
Thanks for reaching out again.
I am using WPSuperCache with all recommended settings. I have got nginx so compression rules have been set as well in the .conf file. I have also configured browser caching options. I am also using google news sitemap.
What i have observed is that if i delete the cache and then update the story by adding a new image, Google picks up the new image immediately. It seems that when the story is first published, it is not considering the actual image of the story, but when the story is updated, it pulls the correct image. Strange!
Regards,
I use a nginx server.
1Gb RAM, and KeyCDN with WP Super cache
And Newspaper theme. Speedbooster plugin is activated and these results are without Google Ads.
Please assist me, this has implication on my SEO.
What do you suggest i do.
Website is Factwide.
Please help.

Your page has 2 blocking scrip

Hello, i’m running your latest theme newspaper 6. i have notice slowness in my wordpress and when try to load the homepage, I believe is the VC plugin. Please check in your end and let me know.
I run my website in top dedicated server with FASTCGI cache on Nginx and HHVM PHP
Thanks,
Gregory

First. (missing files) http://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.movzio.com/XJg9IOf2
You need to disable tag div api plugin or fix them, because its calling https://www.movzio.com/wp-content/plugins/td-api-plugin/css/style.css and this file doesnt exist.
second (light files) https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.movzio.com%2F&tab=mobile
You need to MINIFY and COMBINE html, css and js code. I dont like w3 because have too many options, but you can try minify option on w3 :-P. Just exclude style.css
Third (server response)
You are on Nginx and nginx works better whit other cache plugins like WP-FFPC instead of w3, just need to install memcached latest version on your server.
Regards
@thomas Another thing, Wordfence isnt a god option 🙁 Its better to use jetpack and activate bruteforce. Wordfence + falcon only works well on Nginx and you need at least 4gb ram and 4 cores or your site will turns slower.
If you uninstall wordfence then you need to enter on phpmyadmin and detale manually around 10tables related to wordfence!!! Its a really a bad plugin xD
Since updating, quite a few of our pages are showing as full width when they should have a sidebar!
I have made sure that Template Settings -> page has got sidebar right selected and that the individual pages have got default template selected but this is making no difference 🙁
These pages do not use any VC elements. Interestingly, if I disable Visual composer all my page templates give an error in nginx and I can’t see anything, yet posts and taxonomies still work fine.
my setting is this link =>

when i upload image, 16 piece image made (So many thumnail and other image made)
what is the best setting? (please)
15 same image made => how setting is the best setting?
I am use cloudflare / Nginx / php-fpm / mariodb
Hi,
We haven’t had any recent reports on regarding our theme configuration and nginx. My guess id that this is due to your host’s configuration and I’ve provide you a more detailed answer vie email.
Thanks
Hi
it was relatively easy to get a score of 92 with Google PageSpeed with the Newspaper Theme.
After our hosting service has implemented Nginx and instead of improving things got worse.
PageSpeed now dropped to 84 because the response time of the server indicated he got up to 1 second.
There is an incompatibility with Nginx with your theme? How do you solve the problem?
Hi
I have a question that maybe you can help me solve.
I tweaked my portal with the Newspaper Theme to obtain a good score of 92 on items PageSpeed…
Subsequently my hosting service has implemented Nginx and now it often happens that the response time indicated by PageSpeed is superior to 1 second with the consequent result of PageSpeed dropped to 84 …
They say it’s okay but it’s not true, of course there are problems in optimizing server
What would show him to help solve the problem, or what can I do to reduce the response time?
Thanks
Hello. After I replaced module 5 with that code(http://pastebin.com/z8kLLY5j) I am getting parse error :
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end, expecting T_FUNCTION in /usr/share/nginx/html/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/includes/modules/td_module_5.php on line 90
Hi,
I cannot write directly to visual composer support as I have the plugin via your theme (Newspaper).
I would like to ask a question. When under HHVM (instead of plain PHP), in the “Grid Elements” when I try to “Add New” I get a blank screen. Under normal php it works.
We use Nginx+HHVM+MariaDB at ubuntu 14.04 for performance reasons at our setup instead of classic AMP.
Any suggestion please?
I realise I cannot cache external resources.
What I mean is that before I put the settings in nginx/varnish etc. I have about 30 internal resources (.js, .css etc), however, now, I seem to just be left with these few resources, and for some reason they aren’t displaying browser cache expiry headers.
I have signed up with cloudflare, currently awaiting DNS resolution cache all my static assets.
Still does not explain why only some of the resources are getting cache expiry headers.
Guys, could do with a bit of help.
My Newsmag 1.6 site (I did not upgrade to 1.7 due to the reported increase in load times) runs on a LEMP installation with Nginx + PHP-FPM + APC + Varnish running nicely.
On top of this I use WP-Rocket to cache, minify, concatenate, and lazy load.
In so far that I can tell, everything works more or less.
I want to take it to the next level.
I have already used PUTTY and optimized nginx.conf, nginx’s pool.d, varnish’s default.vcl, php.ini, php-fpm etc.
I have already put in the strings to leverage browser caching both in .htaccess, nginx, varnish etc.
Strangely, some files are still not displaying cache expiry dates.

Any ideas on why certain .css and .js files aren’t caching?
Thanks for all the help.
(I will give the tagdiv dev’s my URL if they wish for it)
Thanks for that Chris.
I’m running 1.7 on nGinx with PHP 5.6.6-1+deb.sury.org~precise+1 / 64Bit OS
And I did recieve weird numbers on performance as well.
