You can’t until they provide it and test it’s okay.
You can buy your own version, but the bundled version gets updated with the theme.
If there was a major bug fix, they will likely do another dot update for the plugin if it’s necessary.
You don’t “have to get” every new update as it happens. Many “brand new” updates are buggy and can take down your website. So, be careful in always wanting the latest shiny object 🙂
WPBakery Visual Composer update available 4.11.1 but Newspaper 6.7 includes version 4.11.
How to update the plugin to the latest version?
I’m getting this when I try to upload the new newspaper update:
The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.
Theme install failed.
Can someone help? Thanks!
Hello All,
First update, so please excuse the newbie questions.
1) Made a back-up of my theme files.
2) Downloaded new version
3) Placed site in maintenance mode
3) Switched, activated other theme, then deleted Newspaper theme.
4) Added New Newspaper theme and activated it.
Here is where I am unsure….
5) De-activated plugin Visual Composer and Revo Slider, then deleted them.
6) Installed Visual Composer and Revo Slider from download themes file and activated them.
Everything seems fine, I am just concerned that I followed the right proceed for the plugins…
Thank-you for the time in answering my question(s).
Hello there,
I updated my theme using envato wordpress toolkit plugin. That’s fine, but my home page is meant to have four articles in a ‘big grid slide’ format – it isn’t working!
http://citysavvyluxembourg.com/
If I add another ‘big grid slide’ underneath, that does work.
Any solutions?? Thanks in advance,
Farrah
Hmm, it’s already come a new update for Slider Revolution.
Well, useful to download the zip files from your themeforest account, view on hard drive by opening the zip… then upload the version via FTP.
Version I downloaded has the updated style sheet. Also where I got the changelog info 😉
Got it. Thanks for your reply. One of my plugin ‘User Submitted Posts’ was making some issues while creating posts by Editors. Please try to include ‘Submit Your News” form similar to User Submitted Posts plugin in next update so we don’t have to use such additional plugins at all.
Great job. Keep it up!
Please fix this. Just did the latest update and it was not resolved. Of course I forgot that I had done it last time and have complaints about the “weird” code on the page.

In style.css file says v.6.6.5, so I suppose that the transfer has failed. I will try again, but I have already tried twice. I hope it can be updated correctly, because it´s really strange. I didn´t have this problem previously.
There is updated version of visual composer included with today’s theme update. 🙂
If you look at the style.css file it does say v 6.7
Obviously you need to clear your cache prior to upload, then clear cache after update in both site/cdn (as applicable) and browser.
You can often “over-write” in place, however this can sometimes lead to confusion if there are files removed and no longer used. Deleting old folder and upload new one is best practice, and that’s how WP does it when installing its own content.
Up to you – if it WORKS for you, then keep doing it. If not, do it the clean (proper?) way of deleting old folder(s), upload new ones.
Often you can do this in place without changing to Twenty Sixteen first if your transients work properly, as if done quickly, you’re hiding the update from WP while you do it. Then when you login it automagically is loading the new files (transients are mini-caches).
Good luck all!
Following… I updated the theme and now my homepage isn’t working as the visual composer doesn’t seem to be posting the ‘big grid’s correctly??

@PatWire I have read all instruction and all documentation about how to upgrade the theme and several ways to do that.
As @ned4spd8874 has said, there is an option in documentation which explains that you can overwrite the “newspaper” folder. I have done it five or six times previously without any problem, but I can´t update now. I don´t know exactly the reason.
1) Do you include a free update WPBakery Visual Composer from version 4.9 to 4.11 in the theme package? If yes, please educate.
2) How to increase the size of block title in all block settings?
3) Is it possible to customise the look of the block title?
4) How can I increase the height of the header? Now I’m using “full dark menu with logo”.
5) Under ‘Latest articles’ section in http://themeforest.net/item/newspaper/full_screen_preview/5489609 , which content block do you use? Block 5? If it’s block 5, then why the dimensions of the featured images look more rectangular than mine (www.feelthecar.com)
Thank you.
@PatWire Although I agree that deleting the theme is the way to go, their own documentation says that it’s okay to overwrite the files.
https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
“Step 6 – Drag and drop the new “Newspaper” theme folder into “your site/wp-content/themes” and overwrite the existing files.”
Albert
So many questions here are through people not reading instructions with the greatest respect – it doesn’t sound like you’ve followed the process – it’s really easy and clear in the documentation on this site my friend.
In Appearance – Themes – activate Twenty Fifteen or similar
Delete Newspaper from this screen
Upload your new newspaper zip
Activate your new newspaper theme
Them read about how to update plugins for the theme
You don’t just upload and overwrite the theme you can’t have two instances of it at the same time
Thanks Chris,
Yes, I’ve installed the plugin in that way. But I need to update it. Can I override the old files? I have to deactivate/delete the old plugin?
Hello
I can´t update. I have downloaded the zip file as always, then I have overwritten the Newspaper folder but when I go to Theme Panel, the version showed is 6.6.5 and not the current 6.7.
What is going wrong? I have seen a folder “patch_6.6.5_6.7” with some files. Are these files which I must to overwrite?
Thanks
I’ve updated your theme. Now how can I update revolution slider plugin? and visual composer?
Thanks
You shouldn’t, but good to make backup of that stuff anyway. 🙂
I always update theme via FTP which seems to work better. Remember to update plugins, too. Most of that can’t be done from WP panel.
Heh. I just posted on the update thread about that — I never use it as there is often a weird permissions error based on who “owns” the folders, such as Apache or FTP user. So, I only use FTP myself. Best “safe” way to do it.
i am using Newspaper theme, if i update theme from WordPress dashboard, will i lose my custom css code added in Theme Panel and other color customizations…i am new here so want to know before updating.
Thanks.
I never use the Envato Toolkit as it can have issues with ownership permissions. I personally always always update via FTP as it also allows me to grab the entire site for download as extra backup sans dbase. So, I’m no help on that one, sorry!
I’m getting the following error when trying to update the theme using the toolkit: Warning: function_exists() expects parameter 1 to be string, array given in /var/www/html/wp-admin/includes/class-pclzip.php on line 1770
I just moved hosting and this is the first time I’ve used the toolkit and it worked before. I’ve moved to a AWS LEMP stack, so I’m assuming that it’s related, possibly permissions? Any ideas on where to start or what directory might need it’s permissions changed on?
