Comparing the two themes it is true that Newsmag does not have the amount of elements that Newspaper has.
I can’t say unfortunately if more elements will be added in the Newsmag theme, that may happen in a future update. Sorry for any inconvenience.

The theme javascript can’t be modified in a child theme, you could add your code in the main theme javascript. The javascript files the theme uses are in the js folder

The javascript is modified in almost every update by us, so even if it would be possible with a child theme, you would still need to update the file.

I am using a plugin which auto block any script/iframe on the website if the user does not give the consent to the cookie policy. However, also the javascript files in the Newsmag/js folder are now blocked.
In order to not block them I would need to add a comment in each js file with a specific keyword.
Now I would like to do that by using the child theme. Is there any way to do that or should I just update the files and then remember to add again the custom line in case of a theme update?

if related to Google Search console error – it’s a ‘soft error’…
This is an ancient problem with WP and Google – when you update a theme, your redirects are temporarily without a place to go and this can cause the ‘index’ file to load in the theme folder, and be seen by Googlebot. The only way to avoid this when doing site updates is to use a ‘maintenance mode’ plugin which pretty much tells the world “we are temporarily closed to do updates” — the main culprit, and one I have complained to WP about for a decade is their use of an index.php file as the default template vs template.php — so there is always an index.php file in your root theme folder which anybody on the web, including Google, can go to and it will try to load and then *correctly* generate an error — it’s not a public page.
One option is to use an htaccess file to setup a redirect for that to your main URL, make the permissions unreadable by outside sources, etc.
Or, simply mark it fixed in search console and get on with your life.
This issue has been posted in this forum at least 100 times now, so obviously a note about this in the FAQs might be helpful ?

It happens because of some design for style 4 and it will happen for all big grids with disabled meta + style 4 combination. I will add this on our issue list immediately and a solution will be found, hopefully for the next update.
You could modify this directly in the theme stylesheet, remove that background color

2. If you turn it off it will be hidden, such notices should not cause any real problems however.
3. Can’t find anything relevant about it in other topics, that will be hidden as well if you disable debug development mode. If there are no actual problems caused by this maybe that would be sufficient.

Sorry for this inconvenience, but for the moment there is now way to do that, the theme includes a license for this plugin, so you don’t have to buy it; you don’t have to activate the plugin license; you don’t have to worry about the plugin update warnings.

From what I can see you use quite an old theme version (7.0). Consider updating the theme, using an almost 3 years old theme with the latest WordPress version or latest Woocommerce may cause problems.

From what I can see those errors mention a missing author meta, and one has a missing updated as well. I have seen this a few times before, but can’t say why those are detected as missing.

2/3 Are you using the latest WordPress version, theme, plugins etc? About that SEO plugin notice I can’t find much online, try to re-install it. Or turn off WP debug in the config file.

The news ticker beneath the header on my Newspaper them site is no longer appearing after the Newspaper theme update to version 9 (this is the only problem I’ve had with update)
