I encounter an issue while installing the latest version of visualo composer that comes packaged with the March-April update of Newspaper: version 4.6.5. On openeing the Add New Grid Element page of VC, I get this error:

http://www.screencast.com/users/princepetropia/folders/Default/media/9d99574c-64b7-40ad-9609-9b600054c35a

Can anyone help? Thanks.

Hi,

The theme doesn’t have any “Automatic Post Delete, Changes Reverts” options. Not sure how this could and if it is possible.
Try to disable all plugins leave just the Visual Composer active then make sure you empty all caches you use and also purge files if you use cdn host.
After doing all this make some changes like you did in the first place and if this happens again.

I also suggest you go trough this WordPress’s guide on hardening your WordPress: http://codex.wordpress.org/Hardening_WordPress and also contact all your users whit administrative roles (if you have other users) and also take into considerations changing your admin panel password then give it a while and try to see if this happens again.
Hope this helps!

Thanks

Hi,
I’ve added two custom blocks in my Newsmag child theme using your “td_api_module” and “td_api_block” class inside my functions.php:

td_api_module::add('td_module_17',
array(
'file' => get_stylesheet_directory() . '/includes/modules/td_module_17.php',
'text' => 'Module 17',
'img' => get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/images/panel/modules/td_module_17.png',
'used_on_blocks' => array('td_block_17'),
'excerpt_title' => 12,
'excerpt_content' => '',
'enabled_on_more_articles_box' => true,
'enabled_on_loops' => true,
'uses_columns' => true, // if the module uses columns on the page template + loop
'category_label' => true
)
);

td_api_block::add('td_block_17',
array(
'map_in_visual_composer' => true,
"name" => 'Block 17',
"base" => 'td_block_17',
"class" => 'td_block_17',
"controls" => "full",
"category" => 'Blocks',
'icon' => 'icon-pagebuilder-td_block_8',
'file' => get_stylesheet_directory() . '/includes/shortcodes/td_block_17.php',
"params" => array_merge(
td_global::get_map_filter_array(),
td_global::get_map_block_array()
)
)
);

I’ve added this module and block using the init-hook. The module then shows up inside the theme panel, e.g. categories. But “block 17” doesn’t appear inside the widget page. What am I doing wrong?

Another problem concerns the typography: Is it possible to change the h4 inside the block_title to h2?

Thanks!

Hi,

This issue has been fixed in the latest theme version so it should work, could you please provide a link to your site so we can have a look at this this and also make sure this doesn’t happen due to a plugin, test without any other plugins laving just the Visual Composer plugin active and also empty caches.
Please let me know and if you want to do this in private you can also use or email, address and send us a message with your site’s url there: contact@tagdiv.com

Thanks

Hi,

You can try to add Featured block to another row and use it on full width row something like this: http://screencast.com/t/Z5eUtAEQH7http://screencast.com/t/jerzJpGYe
Or display more posts on Latest Reviews block to fill up that space: http://screencast.com/t/cU3LJbPa
There are many possibilities to build your page with Visual Composer, also you can use Widgetised Sidebar block to display your custom sidebar(create it and add widgets to it): http://screencast.com/t/9HoRs4sWI

I’m not sure if this is what you want, so if this is not please provide more details maybe a screenshot of what are you referring.

Hope this helps!

Hi,

What version of Visual Composer do you use? if you use the latest try to switch o the previous one and see if the issue is still there. If you don’t have the older version send me an email at contact@tagdiv.com and i’ll provide it for you.

Thank you, Emil G.

Thanks Hxadecimal for the question and Alin for the answer. I have the same problem and was researching a lot for the answer. As a workaround I use Post “Grid Module”.

I wonder why there is no block 7 Module for Visual Composer. I would appreciate a lot such block Module.

You can try limiting the number of queries per page, or get a better hosting provider?

Sadly, Visual Composer *does* use a lot of system resources as it’s a GUI to enable custom site layouts — so it’s like another application running on TOP of WordPress, which runs on top of php, which runs on the server.

You can also disable the visual composer CSS from loading on post pages where it’s not normally used (see my optimization sticky for the code to add to your functions.php file).

You can also simplify the category/archive pages to not use fancy Visual Composer blocks by default and simply show list of stories, etc.

Sadly this is an ongoing issue with Visual Composer, and not directly theme related.

Ideally one should be able to customize site then turn OFF Visual Composer, but keep the CSS in place to render the layouts.

Hi Guys,

The website was offline several times a day and my Hosting company just sent me this msg: “All the issues on your website are because of the plugin WPBakery Visual Composer which is consuming a lot of CPU in the background regardless of that all the content in most of the time is served from the cache.
I know that this is one of you main plugins and without it your website will not function properly but this plugin is very bad coded and if it can it will consume all the CPU server resources.”

The reason I write is because they actually don’t want to provide me with the hosting if I do not resolve this.

Please advise.

Hello alin

We have to include nofollow tag with below code generated by Visual composer shortcode generator

[vc_button title="button" target="_new" color="default" href="#"] [vc_button title="button" target="_self" color="default" href="#"]

But the link you have referred the article generating custom HTML code manually. Shortcode is nothing but things to be done in quick manner. If we are adding more than 5-6 buttons in a single post, then the instructions you have referred URL not useful anymore.

Suggest me the better way.

Hi,

Using post carousel could be an option but you if really need this and you need customization for it I suggest you get someone help you with this.
If this suits you, the posts carousel VC element can be added to the page like this: http://screencast.com/t/2Z6BW9op9c
Result: http://screencast.com/t/gHIoVHXxrlH

The VC drag & drop issues was reported in previous version of VC plugin and when used with WordPress 4.1 version so if you don’t use the latest version of WordPress (4.1.1) please update it and also update the VC plugin to the latest version (4.4.2).

Download the latest theme version from themeforest: http://themeforest.net/downloads ..the latest version of the VC plugin is included within theme’s files in the /plugins folder. Use this guide and update tghe VC plugin according to it: https://forum.tagdiv.com/update-the-visual-composer-plugin-wpbakery/
Let me know how it goes and if you still have this issue afterwards.

Thanks

Hi,

Unfortunately there is no block made by module 7 so you can use with Visual Composer: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/category/module-7-category/ But you can set to display Latest Articles on your frontpage(blog): http://screencast.com/t/vqw4rV203f4 and choose module 7 to display articles from Theme Panel > Template Settings: http://screencast.com/t/2nLdGWM3yJfy

Result: http://screencast.com/t/EnwTdPRJ

Hope this helps!

Hi,

Please try this without any plugins active, leave just Visual Composer active, clear cache and purge your files if you use CDN.
Also please provide a link to the issue.

Thanks!

Hi,

1. Please also makes sure you try this without any plugins active, leave just Visual Composer plugin active and makes sure you empty all caches and urge files if you use cdn host then try again.

2. You can use this css for that: http://screencast.com/t/a1TR3Jdwqo2G

.block-title {
line-height: 30px;
}

3. For retina logo you have to upload a larger logo which will be used on devices that use retina: http://screencast.com/t/vgkN0H5H

Thanks

Yeah. I have that issue notably with Internet Explorer; less so with Chrome on Windows 7/64.

The trick I’ve found with that is to do ‘save’ on right side to update, then try again, and if it spins, hit save. Then if it shows up, then go to edit.

Stupid I know. Went through this same issue over the weekend with migrating site to Newsmag from Woo Canvas. Basically it’s the Visual Composer uses a bit of memory, and since it’s all ajax based and uses WP “transient” settings, seems like browser runs out of something.

And I’m on a Mac Pro with 32GB of RAM, running Windows in 64 bit – what memory am I running out of ? 🙂

So try this:
1) clear your browser temp files/cache.
2) try the “save” button right side before doing ANYTHING.
3) if it spins and spins, try save changes; then if it drops into the slot in the preview, then click the pencil icon to EDIT it once it’s there.

Stupid, I know … but that’s how I got it done! 🙂

Hi,

I’ve tested this and tried to recreate it but could managed to do it. This could be due to a plugin so I suggest you also try without any plugins active, leave just Visual Composer active then try again.
Also make sure you empty caches and purge files if you use CDN host.
Let me know how it goes and also provide your site’s URL.

Thanks

I’ve never used Visual Composer for posts; but it’s specifically designed for pages. Normally you would create new page, then use the visual composer to build your “columns” and elements that go into each column.

I don’t think you can just drop a bunch of shortcodes into a page for it to work properly, unless I’m mistaken.

I prefer to work with pages. And I use the Visual Composer plugin. But everything I do only works for posts. In the VC settings are pages and post selected.

But the result is completely different.

Post:

Page:

Am I doing something wrong or are only posts prepared for use with Visual Composer?

This post:

http://sunnyinkabul.com/2015/03/07/4-reasons-nato-used-a-white-lady-to-explain-afghan-lady-problems/

…uses post style 5, since I don’t want the featured image showing up at the top.

How could I move the headline over and the sidebar up like you’ve done for the default post template?

One of the reasons I love this theme are the different templates and how easy they are to use, and bringing that headline in would help clean up the visual.
