Okay, so I need to add this $buffy code in all smart lists’ .php file in which I want to display “ad” at the end of the post or do I need to do it only in the case of smart list-1 and smart list-6.

I usually use Smart List-1 and Smart-2 for the desktop version and since td mobile theme plugin is activated, Smart list-7 is shown on mobile device.

So, My prime motto is to display ads at the end of smart list-1, 2 and 7. Should I use the same method as suggested above?

I can also see that there are three different option panel to add ad codes for smart list- 6,7 and 8 ( https://i.snag.gy/z8ZvcF.jpg ) .

Thank you.

Thank you Catalin for making your best effort to make me understand these things but perhaps I have some issues with English writing skills that I am unable to make you understand what I am clearly trying to ask you ๐Ÿ™‚

Whatever you wrote above is completely true, but let me again try to write in more simpler form.

1. I bought “Newspaper” theme is last week of “August-2016” but I have already created a category named “Featured” with “slug “featured” in June-2016 before purchasing your theme. Now , how will “Newspaper theme” will react to this? Because by nature of code, Newspaper will try to create a new “featured category, but since it will recognize that there is already a category with the same name, it will skip this task. Right?

Now, this “featured” category which I had already created in “june 2016” will still serve the all the purpose needed by Newspaper theme. Right?

3. I already know what these sorting type mean. What actually wanted to know is- In the footer style-1, there is section called “Popular Post”- This section work on which of these type of sorting:

1. Popular (all time),
2. Popular (last 7 days or
3./Popular (jetpack + stats module required) ??

Kindly answer.

Thank you.
( PS: Sorry if I am still unable to describe my situation. This is be my last comment under this thread. Thank you )

Oh! I understand but this looks ugly. ๐Ÿ™ So, I have to delete the code.

Thank you anyways.

Actually it was not working because I should cache contents from all three places 1. WP Super Cache 2. My hosting server Cache and 3. KeyCDN cache purging.

Now it’s working. Thank you.

Hi Catalin,
Thank you.

I have gone through all the links that you have shared with me and have understood many things. Few things which are still not clear, please try to answer them specifically

1. As you said “Please notice that the Featured Category is a category that is added automatically by our theme.”, what if I have already one category with the same name “featured” with same slug even before I started using your theme. Will NewsPaper theme create a duplicate category with the same name but different slug? Or it will not create any new category ? ( Since I already have that category)

2. I understood that I can populate posts on the mobile theme grid by adding the posts in the โ€œfeaturedโ€ category: But what will be the order of the appearance of the post? Will the three latest posts from featured category will be posted on the grid or any random three posts ( not particularly in the order of date of publishing)

For the same thing- what is the case with “Editors Pick” under the footer section? Currently, I see that it shows random posts from “featured category” Shouldn’t it display the latest posts from this category?

Please try to understand that – Though you have listed “Featured” as one of the “Sort Order” here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/block-settings-guide/ but you have not made it clear that in what order posts will be displayed from “Featured Category”. Please make it clear even in your tutorial section. Let me know if you are having trouble in understanding what I am trying to ask.

3. what does sort = “popular” denote ? It’s 1. Popular (all time), 2. Popular (last 7 days or 3./Popular (jetpack + stats module required) ??
If its 3. Popular (jetpack + stats module required) , then I don’t have jetpack installed , how does it showing three posts under “popular posts” section in footer style-1 then?

I have gone through various threads here and have read various confusions about this issue with many community members here. A well-explained tutorial must be added in our community forum on this.

Thank you.

Hey, There is still one issue with “Featured Post” section. As I said, I already had this category pre-configured before even switching to Newspaper theme.

I just noticed that the three posts shown under “Editors pick” are not the latest posts under the “Featured category”. Does it randomly select any posts from featured category. Has it nothing to do with the order of publishing?

Thank you.

Hey Ventoura,
You answer lies here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/implemented-new-sort-most-popular-among-posts-of-last-7-days/

It will sort the most popular published posts from last 7 days, not all the time.

Cheers,

Oh Now I understand something about “Featured post” here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/featured-posts-2/

So, basically , Newspaper also creates “Featured” category by itself and it’s hidden. Great! I never knew this because I created “Featured” category back in July 2016 ( exactly same name) and I always thought that this is my created category and hence never given much attention to this.

Now, Since I already had this category before. Will it be compatible with your options? Will this category still be hidden? Should I worry about it ?

What about popular post?

Thank you.

Nano

Hello Bogdan,
Thank you for reply.

Yes.. I see but I still can’t understand this “Featured sorting thing”. Probably this is same what we see as “first three posts” on “TD mobile Theme plugin”. But how what is this featured sorting thing? I do have a category name called “Featured” but that’s something which I have created. So, it must not be the posts from this category.

Similarly what about “popular sorting” Is is all time popular, or popular for last 7 days ?

Please enlighten me on this. You may write here any tutorial or forum thread link that explains this.

Thanks,

Hi,
Thank you Amit ๐Ÿ™‚
But I specifically want to change the core CSS code for Font needs because it looks ugly when user sees changing fonts even for the mili seconds.

Can you please tell me what should I change in the core file and where?

Thank you

Hey Chris.

Hope you are doing great ๐Ÿ™‚

Today, I thought to look for any previous thread on keyword “plugin organiser” and then I was sent here ๐Ÿ™‚

Actually, I am looking for a way to keep using “mobile theme plugin” while still being able to use Visual composer based page on some pages. I asked the same question here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/how-can-i-use-visual-composer-on-specific-page-on-mobile-theme/ . I think that “Plugin organiser” can help me to achieve this result.

But here when I read this, I agree that we must try to avoid using any new plugins. So, is there any way to achieve this ( enabling visual composer on the certain page even when I am using TagDiv mobile theme plugin or disabling mobile theme plugin on certain page/post ) using few codes under functions.php ?

PS: I know everything is possible when a developer puts his mind into it, but I just want to know if it’s possible to do with few codes so that I can do it by myself too.

Thank you

Hey Andrei, Any word about this awesome life saver plugin I discovered for the first the time called “Plugin Organiser” with 4.8 out of 5 ratings. Plugin link: https://wordpress.org/plugins/plugin-organizer/

It appears that it can solve this issue. Any comment or previous experience ?

Thank you.

Oops! It created the box around previous and next article box individually ๐Ÿ™ I want a rectangular box of width similar to Author box so that both previous article and next article can come within that box as shown here with bold-red-bordered line: https://i.imgur.com/rkYQheR.jpg

Please have a look. Thank you.

” A possible solution would be to add support for Visual Composer in mobile theme but for the moment we donโ€™t plan to add this feature as will defeat themeโ€™s purpose”

70% of the internet is on mobile now. Even google is almost ready to go “Mobile first” for their ranking algorithm and everything. So, I can’t ignore mobile speed and optimization but at the same time, just because of speed, we are killing almost all other features that Newspaper has to offer. It’s so ironic that the whole documentation for Newspaper mobile theme can be written on just one full-length page but it’s been used 70-80% of the time ( in terms of traffic). Hence , we are doing everything for 20-30% traffic but not for the major portion ๐Ÿ™

I also feel that just because now you have created a separate plugin for the mobile theme, psychologically , you might be putting less effort in making further mobile optimization in your parent theme. Since you might be thinking that you have already achieved 300-400% more optimization on mobile theme so, if someone needs speed, you have a ‘ ready answer’ to ask them to use “Mobile theme” . but that time, neither user, nor you think that in that case, the whole awesome “Newspaper” theme will become the simplest blog theme which has nothing to offer other than speed in terms functionality;

So, Please give enough time to mobile theme feature updates and then you can give an option to “enable and disable” visual composer for mobile theme.

In fact, for the main theme too, we should have the option to disable or enable “loading of extra codes” page. post or categories basis to optimize it fully. We are using hard-coded shortcodes and smart list options in our various posts, so, if we even think to change the theme in future, it is going to break the site. So, it’s highly unlikely that we are ever going to change the theme.

Therefore we have high hopes from TagDiv.

Thank you.

Hi Nairolf,

Thank you for the advice ๐Ÿ™‚

But I couldn’t understand the perspective of “Be Original” here. None of the contents on my website are directly stolen or copied from any other websites. Yeh, it’s true that we curate trending news and we still don’t take exclusive interviews or do ground journalism but all our articles are well researched, manually written, plagiarism free and well-reviewed before getting published. We do have a team of dozens of authors who write for us and few editors .

About videos, None of these videos are created by me or my team but are embed in the post, but then this is how trending videos are being covered even by big sites Huffpo or Buzzfeed etc.

All your advises are actually helping me to understand the best practices and method that I should apply in my startup. So, feel free to criticise and comment whatever you think. It means a lot to me

I am trying to make a long-term website with a vision ( not some short-term money making stuff) and hence I really don’t want to do or repeat mistakes if I am doing any.

Thank you.

Hi Nairolf,
You may be true but I can’t see any reason for that. Secondly there is no such error or warning under Google Webmaster.

Can you suggest me any way to check this or any workaround to avoid this ?

Thank you

Thank you Chris and Bogdan for the reply.

As Chris said, Probably this has something to do with recent changes in Google algorithm . Though If you will look at my search link above. It will show you google.com not google.co.in

I intentionally tried to make global search using https://www.google.com/ncr but it still didn’t work. And yes, I also used Google Video SEO plugin by a famous developer named Amit Agarwal ( here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/xml-sitemaps-for-videos/ ) , though notable it hasn’t been updated for last 4 years… but the video sitemap ( https://tomatoheart.com/sitemap-video.xml) appears to be working working very well.

One more thing- I am using “XML Sitemap Generator for WordPress 4.0.8” for general sitemap not Yoast Plugin’s sitemap .. because it appears to have more functionalities ( like priority settings, ping/notify all SEs, Include sitemap in HTML format, compress sitemaps etc).

Do you have any views on this ?

Thank you.
