Hi Anamaria,

Please bear in mind that this is not a consistent problem, but when it occurs, it does really occur! Last time I had to completely remove that Ad box instance and introduce a new one, and that worked.

Usually I manage ads in a different way than the Ad box module, but from time to time I do need to use that instead, and every time I start off skeptical whether it is going to work or not.

This time I had to completely remove the Ad box instance that wouldn’t save the link, and introduce a new one as well, and this time it also worked eventually. But generally speaking it is crazy unreliable.

Hi Anamaria,

Thank you for assisting me with this. The PHP version is 8.1.31.

When I try to save the edits, I see no explicit errors in the console. The ad banner is being saved okay, and I get the green animation that confirms it; it’s only the external URL which is not being saved. When I reload the page on the front end, I can see the banner being displayed where expected, but the URL is pointing to my own homepage instead of the desired URL.

Best regards,
Konstantinos.

Good Gosh! Are people still necroposting in 2024!?

Hi @Anamaria,

I reckon you are asking @tonyb to reply, correct? If you are asking @mayur_cfe or myself, it’s been 3 years since our last input; we have solved our issues, and I believe @mayur_cfe have solved theirs also.

In the case of @tonyb it would be best practice to start your own support thread my friend. Hijacking dead threads has never been a good practice in public forums.

Hi Bettina,

Thanks for sharing those links. We have followed them guides, and so far it all seems to work properly.

I have had various results with similar actions in the past. Usually it was disastrous ones. Although I am going to take a full backup before proceeding, is this a test solution, or are we trying things out here? Also, should I be expecting for parts of my page to stop working after I deactivate those add-ons? If so, am I to create them anew afterwards, or would everything remain as is?

Thanks.

Thank you, that helped.

Issue resolved.

Hi Calin,

I have been digging on my old tickets, and I found this. I would like to share my feedback. I have replaced all tagDiv Standard Pack modules with Cloud Templates, and have also disabled TDSP, but I am still having 8 slow queries in the front page of my site. I have opened a different ticket for that case, but I would like to share the knowledge with fellow TDC users.

Hi Bettina,

I have followed your instruction again, and again, but it does not seem to have anything to do with a proper solution to this error. Would you kindly elaborate on what is it that it is causing this please?

Thanks.

Hi, do you have any updates on the progress of this maybe? Thanks.

Hi Bettina,

I played a little with the scale option and I discovered that it all comes down to the original content width. Basically when the physical page becomes too small for all of the content to fit, everything is blank. If I scale it down (the threshold being at 77% for an A4 page) then the content is being displayed correctly. This rules out the possibility of a conflict between tagdiv and any plugins. So the next question is, how can I configure the page in such a way that on print, the sidebar and left-right margins are ignored, and only the actual content is included in the print job? That means only the post title, the featured image (maybe) and the article content only.

Thanks.

In addition to the edit content I shared above, I noticed that that is the case with the orientation set to landscape. When the orientation is set to portrait, then the only page sizes that contain the post content are A0, A1, and A2. All other page sizes appear to be blank.

Apparently all that means that the page itself is too wide to fit on smaller physical pages? How can we discard the sidebar completely, and all of the left/right margins?

Hi Bettina,

Your guide recommends a PHP version equal to or greater than 7.3. Our site runs on version 7.4 which meets your suggestions.

Please proceed with proper instructions for further investigation.

Thank you.

That is a legit walkthrough of very helpful suggestions, 90% of which I have already done on my site also. Of the remaining 10% some don’t apply in my case (e.g. believe it or not I don’t use CF7) or I simply need things that they are suggesting I deactivate. Thanks for the share anyway.

Hi Calin,

Thank you for escalating this to the appropriate team. I look forward to hearing from you.

Have a good one!

In case it can be of help to your team, I had created this SO thread at the same time as posting here, to help accelerate things a bit. I am sharing the link here. Perhaps it contains some useful tips for optimizing those queries?

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/71532089/where-to-start-to-optimize-slow-wp-sql-query

Perhaps starting with the first suggestion to remove SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS would help indeed?

Hi Calin,

Thanks for the additional tip. Unfortunately we are not using that, so that is not an option towards lightening things up a bit.

Thanks.

Hi Calin,

Thanks for the suggestions. We have tried both without much success (staging and subdomain). The size of the installation doesn’t help either. It is already north of 50GB, and as you would agree, things are moving slow with such tasks.

I will try removing the pagination features selectively and see how it’s going, and I’ll let you know.

Thanks.

Okay, I reckon it’s something to do with SQL injection protection layer?

I am posting you my answer as an image to bypass what is restricting me from posting. Apologies for not being able to copy paste the content.

Hi Calin,

I am trying to post you a reply here, but I am thrown this error:

What’s wrong?

Redlemon

Hi Calin,

Thank you for the short tutorial. I’ve followed it through, and it stands as another option. In the meantime I used the same block and an image in a four column array with inline rows and inline columns to achieve a similar effect. I reckon yours is somewhat more maintainable, so maybe I’ll go with that instead.

Cheers,
Konstantinos.

Hi Anamaria, that module is a module of the author – a short bio or description plus their name and social icons. That is not what I described or asked advice for. I need to use or create a module to display the author’s profile picture and their latest article (article category name, article title, article excerpt).

If I create a module from scratch, what is the best way to save it as an entity to make it reusable for future use? I am looking into some other way to do so than have it exist in a demo (hidden) template, and then copy that over to the page template I will be working on each time.

Thanks.

Hi Bettina,

I don’t think this is a viable solution. As I explained previously, this site is quite an alive one. This means that if I create a backup, grant you wp-admin and cPanel access, and then the unfortunate happens, the backup would be stale. Please let me know what other options would be available?

Thanks.

Hi Bettina,

We are talking about two very different problems here. One is the theme appearing to be unregistered. The second is (was) that the theme completely broke the output on the front page. The former is still there – the theme appears to be unregistered still. The latter we addressed like explained previously. Allow me to point out that some theme settings were completely erased in the process of switching between child -> parent -> child themes; settings like the header, the logo, the default post template, the custom ads 1, 2, 3, 4, and more.

To be completely transparent with you, I am very hesitant in touching the update buttons again any time soon. This is not the first time I am experiencing unexpected output caused by updating Newspaper. If you search on previous tickets of mine (you could search history for my email associated with this account) you could verify this. Living with Newspaper has been anything but easy and trouble-free.

I attempted to re-activate the theme, but the wheel kept spinning, and spinning, and spinning. It was at least 5 minutes of spinning until I realized it was not going anywhere, and I had to cancel.

This is an alive installation, and every time something like this happens it never goes unnoticed. We honestly hope there will never be a “next time” in the months to come. The activation code is available, and we would rather resolve this without having to go through a similar experience another time.

Thanks.

All right, I’ll arrange cpanel access too, I’ll set up the staging environment, and I’ll send you the requested info to your email directly with a link to this thread. Thank you.
