Hi Andrei, I didn’t want to post site info in this forum so I emailed the details to contact@tagdiv.com with attention to Catalin, please let me know via email! THANKS!!!!

Hello Catalin!

So I don’t mean the meta description of the image attachment. I mean the actual written text that comes after the image on a smarlist

Check http://screencast.com/t/yJY2oK61IqD

If you attempt to add a caption for the image (going into media attachement, adding a caption), the description of the list element disappears.

I believe the bug is reproducable on your demo. Just go into this post http://screencast.com/t/yJY2oK61IqD , for the image of Emanuela De Paula, click edit on the visual editor, add in anything in the caption area
http://screencast.com/t/FapbqpXW1X

now save the post/publish and you will see that the description of that list element that used to be there “Too much work. Let’s burn it…” is gone

@thesend, thanks for the help! when you write

@schindyguy, I suggest you to
a) simply paste the code of DFP ad units in the ad section of the theme (header, sidebar, custom slots, etc.);
b) add the javascript of DFP in the header of the theme. You should change and customize this part of the code if you want to make ads responsive (see Catalin’s link for the complete tutorial).

For b) does your js include all the default ad width/dimensions based on tagdiv’s adsense integration? Check out http://screencast.com/t/yr3IO4SuW – lines 98+ of /includes/shortcodes/td_block_ad_box.php show the ad slot name along with the custom “responsive” dimensions that fit within the themes layouts

If anyone else comes across this issue with responsive adsense, I was able to solve it by putting the responsive adsense in smart list 7 and then forcing the dimensions on desktop to 728×90 in the options section. The 728×90 actually showed without modifying the widths/breaking the theme standard layout

@temporary_saint, were you able to get demand partner SSP/exchanges working within adglare? Took a look at their demo which seems to only show adsense backfill. Do you run DFP in parallel and take DFPs ad tag and put into adglare?

If you are just using adsense as demand, then tagdivs theme out the box does this by using responsive adsense ad tags:

For one, the ads scale in size, so they look great and proportional on all devices.

and this if you customize what size you want by width within the theme panel options

Secondly, I was able to show ads in different places, depending on the screen size… meaning I could have a box ad in the sidebar when on desktop or tablet, but then have it jump into the content when on mobile (so that it didn’t end up with the sidebar waaaaaaay down at the bottom).

@temporary_saint, whats the best way to integrate DFP with newspaper after your trial and error?

Or anyone else thats used DFP with newspaper, there are some threads of issues, just would like to integrate with the best practices?

schindyguy

Thanks @thesend I have not yet switched to DFP but stumbled on this thread – seems pretty straight forward the way you explain it but then what issues are you having that you brought up in this thread? Did you follow this to get responsive working https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/tutorial-responsive-ads-with-google-dfp/ ?

schindyguy
tagDiv Member

@ChrisS, when you say

you just need to follow the docs to put in your custom HTML for the different media sizes …

do you take DFP’s ad tag and place it in a theme panel>custom ad slot and then hardcode something like:

< ?php echo do_shortcode('[td_block_ad_box spot_id="custom_ad_1"]');?>

Congrats! Love the theme

Was just curious if there is an update with support for multiple websites?

And if there might be a way we can purchase a multi domain license?

Can we just pay you directly for a theme license? Would rather you have more of the money than envato 🙂 Perhaps https://stripe.com/subscriptions if you can get a bank in https://stripe.com/global

So yoast has a good writeup on getting your site up to par with AMP
https://yoast.com/wordpress-amp-part-ii/
https://yoast.com/setting-up-wordpress-for-amp-accelerated-mobile-pages/

Basically summarized here to get AMP working: http://screencast.com/t/eIGyCleh

Re: fb instant articles, once they are available to everyone, fb will have an official plugin it sounds like
http://media.fb.com/2016/03/07/instant-articles-wordpress-plugin/

Tagdiv, are you guys planning to take any steps to incorporate into the newspaper core (either AMP or instant articles) or for the time being do we take Chris S’s suggestion of keeping it silo’ed with plugins?

Hi Bogdan,

Because I am using a specific smart list 7 ad unit, is there anyway with css to overwrite the containers padding just for that smart list 7 ad unit so that it will fit 728×90 banner? Visually for desktop views, http://screencast.com/t/iaLZOWeGn78 there does seem to be space for a 728×90 ad if the content/sidebar container padding was reduced. The 728×90 ad will protrude into the sidebar, but thats ok.

I know it can probably be done with js, just curious if theres anyway with only css

Thanks for all your help!!!

Thanks Bogdan! I can’t find any VC visual examples of each style, color, etc anywhere on their site. Do you know if they have a demo illustrating each of the content elements?

In case anyone else needs it I found this which shows all the variables
https://wpbakery.atlassian.net/wiki/display/VC/Content+Elements#ContentElements-Button

Thanks for the help Bogdan, but how do I use VC to design a smart list 7 post?

schindyguy

Hi Bogdan,

So your saying that the 728×90 image http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper_travel/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/rec728-3.jpg is being resized to fit in a 696 wide container, right?

Is there anyway to adjust the main width of the content block to be 730 instead of 696 so that a responsive adsense unit can fill a banner thats 728×90? http://screencast.com/t/zkRkbXCt Perhaps removing 17px of padding from both sides so the container will be 730 width?

Thanks

Seems to be related to td crumb container: http://screencast.com/t/TzBtq2PVapPP

schindyguy

Thanks Andrei, but its actually happening on mobile.

I am referring to the white space above the headline and below the header ad slot (my header ad slot uses responsive adsense)

Also, are you sure .td-module-meta-info includes all of this:

category tags
author name
date
post views
comment count
tags

and the sharing buttons? I am trying to hide everything in red box http://screencast.com/t/ySXqq3YDb5 and there not be white space (on both mobile and desktop)

Thanks!!!

Just as a heads up as of 12/23 the 6.6.3 package downloaded from envato has the old revslider plugin in the plugins folder zipped up as if its new (revslider.zip)

Theres an additional folder in plugins called revolution_slider_5 that has the revslider.zip (updated) inside. But the one revslider.zip in the plugin root folder is not the new version

Bogdan, wasnt able to find a is_post_type(sponsored) function so if anyone else has this issue you can modify this conditional https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/remove-ads-in-certain-postpage/ to look for a tag “sponsored” which worked like a charm

wp-content/themes/Newspaper/includes/shortcodes/td_block_ad_box.php

on line 27, I added added

if (has_tag(sponsored)) {
return;
}

Thanks again for the help!

No need for a developer, but in case anyone else has the same question, it needed to be added to the Newspaper/loop-single.php as thats where the do_shortcodes can go to call my fb comments plugin and custom_ad_slot 1 which contains the taboola code.

Thanks for the help though!

schindyguy
tagDiv Member

Where exactly would I put the Taboola code in the big td_smart_list.php file (and/or each individual smartlist template file) to render taboola widget under each item of the smartlist?

Thanks!

schindyguy
tagDiv Member

Thanks Catalin! The topic seems to use post or page ids to exclude the ads, what would the code be to exclude all posts for a specific custom post type named ‘sponsored’?

schindyguy
tagDiv Member

Ok so if I wanted to keep the accent color and the footer color the same, what custom css can I add to the theme panel so that the hover over underlines the text and keeps the text white so it’s readable? I sent you my site via support email and the screencast above shows the footer with hover over if it helps. Thanks!

schindyguy

So where in the smart list file should I add the Taboola code so that it appears below the each of the slides (each smart list item)? Thanks!

schindyguy
tagDiv Member

So I updated to 6.6 and it looks like because you fixed the duplicate content appearing on smart list 7 and 8, you re-wrote the code and now I don’t know what to remove to remove the list item number http://screencast.com/t/ErNWd6BXFPd

Can you tell me what to remove the list item number so it doesnt break smart list 7 and 8?

Thanks!!!
