Hi,

In Newspaper v9.7.3 if you have the child theme active the only template that will be display will be the default one ( the ones from the theme will not apply and neither those from tagDiv Cloud Library ).

Also now using tagDiv Composer with header manager and tagDiv Cloud Library you can do a lot of customizations.

Thank you!

Hi,

Ensure that you have correctly installed the theme via FTP way according to our documentation from here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/newsmag-install-via-ftp/ Also, if you are using the child theme, please switch to the main theme because we do not recommend using the child theme because it might break the theme functionality. Also, remove all of the untested plugins, clear all the caches, purge CDN files and check the results. For more investigation, please provide your website URL.

Hope this helps and let us know!

Thank you!

I reinstalled theme. I deactivated child theme I believe I did all ‘by the book’ but look what I get https://www.screencast.com/t/sNVJdkOA and why still outdated?
Also NEW has again disappeared from cloud library…

OK, before I go to the trouble of setting up a child theme so I can make changes to functions.php, I want to be sure I understand:

If I set up a child theme, none of the cloud templates will work? Is that correct?

And if that’s the case, and child themes no longer make sense with Newspaper, how should we implement customizations? Make them in the main files, keep a list of the changes we’ve made, and then make them again whenever there is an update?

Hello !

The Newspaper theme has a lot of features in order to have a lot of options when it comes to modfiying it, including special tabs for adding custom codes like CSS.

My personal opinion is to ditch the child theme. It would cause a lot of problems in the future updates since there may be changes and you will find yourself in a situation where you won’t be able to apply the child theme anymore or who knows what issues you may confront.

I think it’s easier to learn the theme and edit it with the options that are available.

You can see here some of the examples I was talking about: https://www.screencast.com/t/kIOBflNxDo ; https://www.screencast.com/t/Xvy9t8R0mx3

So, to answer your question, You shouldn’t use child theme on a brand new website using the Newspaper Theme.

Thank you !

Hello,

I just purchase the Newspaper theme, the website will be new, so at the moment is empty.

I am a bit confusing about to use or not the child theme. Usually until now when I start a new website I create a child theme with functions.php, style.css and header.php files.

So when I add some custom css into style.css or google ads into the header.php, if I update the theme nothing broken.

What happen now? Which is the best way to start create the website with child-theme or not? Notice I make changes into header.php (google ads) and maybe some css changes.

Thank you.

Hi,

Please make sure that you do not have a plugin conflict with untested plugins, please deactivate all plugins and child theme ( if you are using ) and let only the tagDiv Composer , clear all cache, deactivate the cache plugin and try again.

Since Newspaper v9.7 the child theme is working only for the functions.php and style.css files.
We wrote an article on the subject here: https://tagdiv.com/updating-the-core-of-tagdiv-themes/

Also since Newspaper v9.7 the api plugin cannot be used anymore, sorry! it has been replaced by a new plugin
https://forum.tagdiv.com/developer-info/
You could use this plugin from now on. Or experiment with flex blocks, maybe what it used to be possible only with the api plugin, it is now possible with flex blocks and grids

Hi Calin,

yes, I read through the WP codex Child themes section (https://developer.wordpress.org/themes/advanced-topics/child-themes/) and it seems still the old way: I could potentially copy the header.php file from the parent theme (let’s say in our case: Newspaper) and could modify header.php.

My question is: After the change from Newspaper v9.7.2. to v9.7.3 that doesn’t seem to work anymore, at least not without removing the first few code lines from header.php where tdc_header is called.
It seems that everything after that code in header.php is ignored? Is that correct?
If so, how would I make a child theme’s header.php work in Newspaper? Eliminating the call for tdc_header doesn’t do it because, as you said, all the functionality had been moved to the tagdiv composer plugin.
In v9.7.2 it was not a problem to make changes to header.php — in v9.7.3 it seems difficult — any pointer how to make a child theme’s header.php or footer.php work?

Thanks,
Frank

Most of the theme files including the post templates are now in the composer plugin
http://prntscr.com/o4b99f
Modifying them in a child theme isn’t possible at the moment, only directly in the plugin. What exactly would you like to do? Maybe there is a different way.

Before update loop-single.php template file overrides the default style template for Default post template(site wide) in theme panel setting. Now it is not working with the same file. Please tell me how we can override the default post template from the child theme.

Hi,
Thanks for clearing that up for me Catalin. So am I right to assume that I can simply delete the child theme without disruption to the site?

Thanks for this.

Hi,

Please make sure that you do not have a plugin conflict with untested plugins, please deactivate all non theme plugins and child theme ( if you are using ), clear all cache, deactivate the cache plugin and try again.

Please make sure that all the settings are like in our requirements, please follow the guide carefully
https://forum.tagdiv.com/requirements-for-newspaper/
and please increase all requirements that are lower, and follow all steps.

Also please provide some more details about the problem you are facing and some screenshots; did you made any updates or install some plugins before this problem to appear?

Thank you!

I have followed the steps indicated, but it still does not work in image galleries.
I have been able to verify that by activating the function of “TagDiv Slide Gallery”, the images of the galleries load well.
http://efmr.cat/Formato-de-entrada.jpg
It is a serious problem since we have a very extensive database of news and it is not feasible to rectify one by one all the galleries published for years.
Do you have a quick solution so that we can implement it in the functions.php file of our “child theme”.
Thank you.

Hi,

Please note that we do not recommend using the child theme, sorry! Most of the theme files were moved into the tagDiv composer plugin as per the requirements of Envato: https://help.author.envato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000472383-WordPress-Theme-Requirements.
We wrote an article on the subject here: https://tagdiv.com/updating-the-core-of-tagdiv-themes/ Moving forward with such requirements, a child theme will only work with functions.php, and style.css, as there are very few files left in the main theme as Envato, requires all functionality to be added through plugins.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for understanding!

The comments.php in the Child-Theme-Folder is ignored. How can we override this File comments.php ?

Here seems to be the master /wp-content/plugins/td-composer/legacy/common/wp_booster/comments.php.
