Hi,

Try to connect via ftp and rename the plugins folder, so you will disable them, maybe it is a conflict there – https://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F

Thanks!

Perhaps I need to update the composer files? I haven’t done this since initial theme installation back in July 17th.

Can I simply just download the files and rewrite them in the plugins folder via ftp? I noticed the composer files have edit dates of July 30th so most likely cause of my issue.

Hi,

You cannot cannot connect to wordpress? Or your settings are not saved?
Please provide more details about this? How did you updated the theme? And did you upgraded from version 4? Do you get any errors?
I’m not sure why you have this issue, are you sure that you don’t use any plugins that may affect this? Check this guide how to update the theme(try to update via FTP) – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/

Thanks!

Hello.
Recently got round to updating my v4 site to v6.4 today. I’m working on a staged copy…
Full disclosure:
Went to maintenance mode and deleted the Theme folder (and the Child).
FTPed the new up and clicked the ‘import script’ which completed and told me to regenerate thumbnails.
(All regeneration failed – but that for another time.)
Updated plugins as requested…

The first thing I have noticed is that the default page layouts and custom fonts for example are all gone! That’s a real pain but not insurmountable, HOWEVER what is a problem is that I have lost the social counts (number of Tweets on posts etc) – I am effectively starting from zero as far as the outside world is concerned… this is very bad.

I suspect there may well be more, but that’s a deal breaker!

Please advise
Thanks

Hi,

I think that the better way is to update via ftp, there is a video tutorial – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ I suspect this issue may be caused by folder/file permission setting.

Thanks!

Hi,

Did you backup your site before update? Try to revert to the previous version and do a clean update via FTPhttps://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ maybe it was an error when uploaded the theme?! I did not found any issues with the new theme version(I also updated on my side – local), widgets are displayed fine.
Also check this only with Visual Composer active, disable all other plugins and clear cache.
Do you have this issue only with widgets? Or also with Theme Panel settings?
If you still have issues, send an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide wp and ftp access so we can take a look, also paste a link to this topic so we can know who you are and what your issue is.

Thanks!

Well, you should of course make periodic backups of your entire website, such as via FTP, or your hosting account file manager.

Exporting
a) tools > export will save basic dbase stuff but not “the” dbase on server
b) theme panel > export settings — save to a txt file; saves most theme settings.

I won’t suggest the DUPLICATOR plugin, since if you’re asking this here that will be way beyond your skill.

You can use this awesome plugin for free:
“MY WP Backup”
http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/my-wp-backup.latest-stable.zip

Or look for that on theme repository, or auto-install via the WP add plugin panel for “My WP Backup.”

Hi top10wala,

Recently we haven’t had any similar reports regarding the Visual Composer plugin so please check the theme system status to see if the php memory limit has been increased as setting it from wp-config may not work if your host does not allow for increasing the PHP memory limit–in that event, contact your host to increase the PHP memory limit.

If this problem persist please address us via email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide your site’s admin and ftp login details so we can have a closer look at this and also include a link to this topic.

Thanks

Hi,

Please try to upload the plugin via ftp, you can find it in the /plugins folder from files that you download from themeforest – http://screencast.com/t/9vFPNCUhK0 Let me know how it goes!

Thanks!

Hi Steven,

I checked this version(we use the latest version to help our users) and did not found any issues. Please make sure that you update the theme properly, you should not have this issue with missing file. Try to update via ftphttps://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ and see if you still have this issue. Always make a backup of your site before any update(even wordpress).

Thanks!

Best way to install is by unzip on your local computer, then upload via FTP.

If installing via the method you’re attempting, make sure those files are actually in the /includes/ folder you uploaded ! “File does not exist” means the installer can’t locate the file(s) to install.

Hi,
Received an email to say that Newspaper Theme had been updated and to download latest version.

I did this and applied the latest version of the the Theme via FTP after putting Wp into Maintenance Mode, but afterwards none of my Widgets that have been placed in my Sidebars are displaying anymore.

I have updated all Plugins as documentation stated after Theme version update.

It seems that any change within the Theme Panel breaks the Theme in some way, and this is just the latest thing to go wrong.

Surely I do not have to update all the pages and posts ???

Kind Regards

Any file you over-write, yes.
So you would need to re-apply changes to user.ini, custom.css, function.php.

htacess is not managed by the theme.

Basically if you over-write any file in the /wp-content/themes/Newspaper/ folder, it gets over-written to replace the original file.

I usually keep track of my changes, then reapply changes to the new versions, then delete old theme folder, and upload new one via FTP which has my modified versions of new files.

Hi,

I want to update my theme from 4.6.3 to the latest version. After updating Newspaper directory via FTP I got white page and this in error.log:

[Fri Aug 21 08:55:58 2015] [error] [client IP] FastCGI: server “/var/www/php-fpm/user/domain.com/fpm.external” stderr: PHP message: PHP Fatal error: Class ‘td_block_widget’ not found in /var/customers/webs/user/domain.com/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/includes/widgets/td_page_builder_widgets.php on line 3

Any idea why? Visual Composer was updatet also to latest version before updating theme.

Most themes do that now for the “custom CSS panel” in the theme — if they wrote that to a file like in the old days, then every time theme was updated people would lose all their custom CSS; so having it in the panel with the dbase means it can be saved/exported with the theme options (typically).

I’ve gotten in habit of saving stuff into a work folder along with ftp backup; and name the files things like snip-customcss.txt snip-functionshax.php etc.
