- NewsmagHow to update the theme
Hi,
The best solution is to make a fresh install like Christopher suggested via FTP – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-theme/
Christopher’ sticky guide can help – https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/how-to-guide-to-moving-from-newspaper-to-newsmag/
Thanks!
You might try manually uploading just the font files via FTP to ensure they are in “binary” format vs “ACSII” format — some systems may decompress that stuff incorrectly, or it might get zipped incorrectly, or even uploaded improperly via FTP the first time (some FTP software won’t “auto set” the format type from binary to txt on upload) — sounds stupid, but it’s happened to me.
Worth a try 🙂
And, or course, make sure they are truly being called from your local domain and NOT off the CDN, unless you have CORS rules setup on the CDN.

Hi,
I have checked your site and you have these errors in console: http://screencast.com/t/YzEGPI7ql3aG
Please do a fresh theme installation using this guide via FTP: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme/ and also update the plugins that come with theme’s files from /plugins folder – https://forum.tagdiv.com/update-the-visual-composer-plugin-wpbakery/
Also check this without any plugins active, leave just Visual Composer active, clear cache and see if you still have this issue with infinite scroll.
Thanks!
normal uploads directory in wordpress is now /uploads/
not managed by theme in any way.
You can over-ride that location in your wp-config.php file.
https://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php#Moving_uploads_folder
Also from your hosting panel or FTP, make sure /uploads/ folder is there and writable. If you changed the name of it, change it back 🙂
Hi,
We deleted the theme and reuploaded via FTP. Did the same with all of the plugins. Recreated the page (see here: http://shughaldev.wpengine.com/test-3/ ) and still have the same issues.
Thoughts?
Hi,
I have checked your site and noticed that a class required class is missing form your html structure: http://screencast.com/t/vCMiaV76
The row-fluid class you have in you html structure should be replaced with the td-pb-row class here: http://screencast.com/t/i1uJlmpEa
Try to re-install the theme and to do it connect via FTP remove theme’s folder then upload the theme’s files (don’t overwrite it). Use this guide – FTP method – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-theme/
Also make sure you do a backup of your current installation in case something goes wrong.
Let me know how it goes.
Thanks!
Hi,
I have checked your video, so please check this without any plugins active, leave just Visual Composer active as in your video you have some plugins activated. If you don’t have this issue anymore please activate your plugins one by one and see which one caused this issue. Also I saw that you are not using the latest theme version 4.6.3.
If you want to update please follow this guide and use FTP method – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme/ and update also plugins that come with the theme’s files from /plugins folder.
Thanks!
Hi,
We recommend you update the theme to the latest version as the latest update has fixes related to the security vulnerability recently announced on themeforest: https://blog.sucuri.net/2015/04/security-advisory-xss-vulnerability-affecting-multiple-wordpress-plugins.html
First make sure you backup your current theme and wp install then update the theme by uploading the theme files via FTP: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme/
Use this guide and the introductions provided there to make sure you do this right: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/how-to-guide-to-moving-from-newspaper-to-newsmag/
After doing this update the child theme. First make a backup of it then update it then copy the customized files.
Please note that if you have changes made to modified theme files, you need to adjust your customization to theme’s code.
Hope this helps!
Thanks
Hi,
Glad you’ve solved it!
I mean this: http://screencast.com/t/iGSUTlnbf – It happens due to your css/html minifications so please make sure you replace the style.css file with the original one or if noting changes please make sure you re-upload the latest version theme files via FTP following this guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme/
I’ve tested your minified css code and had the same issue: http://screencast.com/t/oiS78Y8a2
Thanks
Hi,
Please send an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide wp-access and ftp credentials so we can take a look. Paste also a link to this topic so we can know who you are.
Thanks!
Hi,
@frasercarly89
That behavior is on all your site’s pages, homepage also and they all appear unstyled. Checking your site I’ve noticed that you’ve minified/compressed your css/html so please make sure that you also tested this without using any plugins and turn off any css/html/js compression you have enabled then test again.
If noting changes then please make sure you re-upload the latest version theme files via FTP following this guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme/
@Stefan
I can’t see this on your site so please provide more details which can help me recreate this and also make sure you also test without plugins, empty caches turn off minification option and test again.
Thanks
Hi,
Please send an email at contact@tagdiv.com , paste a link to this conversation, backup the site files and database, and provide wp-admin and ftp access so i can take a look.
Thank you, Emil G.
Hi,
If you have a backup use it to restore the site to it’s previous state.
Else try to contact the host administrator to check if they have any backup for your site, they usually create backups.
If the none of the solutions from above work please send an email at contact@tagdiv.com , paste a link to this conversation and provide wp-admin and ftp so i can take a look.
Thank you, Emil G.
Hi,
We recommend to update the theme via FTP using this guide – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme/ but also you can do this using envato wordpress toolkit from the same guide.
Thanks!
Hi,
@waleedaslam
Do you have an issue with function file from WordPress?
As the theme functions file is in root of the theme(not in WP-includes) – http://screencast.com/t/ZTgx0gO3uU0 and you can upload it via FTP like Christopher suggested.
Thanks!
Hello,
I tried to do the latest update (via FTP) but something strange is happening with the header and the search button.
Old theme: http://www.nieuwetijdskind.com/theme1.jpg
New theme: http://www.nieuwetijdskind.com/theme2.jpg
Can you help? Thanks!
Sincerely, Niels
Hey Chris,
I tried deleting via FTP, and still just brings me to blank pages (it doesn’t time out, even after clicking delete, the first couple seconds of me going to my website, its just all blank pages, won’t load).
Not sure what to do, as I need to modify the home page, and I am not able to because visual composer doesn’t work… :\
You can delete the js-composer folder in your wp-content/plugins/ folder via filezilla using the delete command ….
however, I run into this issue where it may “time out” and not finish…
this is a normal server issue with trying to delete too many files via ftp …
If you have a “filemanager” module in your web hosting account panel, it’s MUCH faster to navigate into your public docs folder (e.g., httpdocs or whatever), then go to that folder and check box, and click delete. Server can do it in one click.
FTP, you might have to open the stupid js-composer folder, select all, then click delete and might have to do that twice until folder empty.
Just went through that on 7 websites. The filemanager method MUCH quicker.
Hello,
So I just updated my theme, via FTP method. Then after, I updated wordpress. Now all there is is a blank page whenever I go to my website – just a white screen.
I had to revert to my back-up, now back to square one.
Thanks,
Carly
Okay, so I updated the theme via FTP method, do we need to do anything with the folder that says “patch_4.6.2_4.6.3”?
Simplest way is to upload the file from the theme download for Newsmag….
upload via FTP or from your hosting filemanager to /wp-content/themes/Newsmag/functions.php
“somehow got modified” is not a good thing …
nothing in the theme modifies that — so unless you have somebody working on that, you should make sure your site is fully patched and secure with latest version of WordPress 4.2.1 and double check ALL your plugins are updated/patched!
Hi,
Unfortunately we cannot install the theme for you, also we cannot provide any custom work for the moment. You can use this guide to upload your theme via ftp – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-theme/ and also install the plugins that come with the theme’s files from the /plugins folder.
Thanks!
Hi,
1. I have also tested this and did not found any issues with block 7 pagination when background is set – http://screencast.com/t/vv9FR4Px6
I have checked this with latest version of the theme(1.7.1) so please update your theme(question 2 – seems that you use 1.7 version) and also update the plugins that come with the theme’s files from the /plugins folder. Use this guide to update your theme (FTP method) – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-theme/
Also disable all plugins, leave only Visual Composer active, clear cache and check if you still have this issue with block’s pagination.
2. It was an issue with custom ads in version 1.7 of the theme, but it was fixed in last update.
Thanks!
Hi,
I’m not sure why you still have this issue. Please try to remove/reinstall Envato Toolkit – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme/ maybe will work after. Also we will take a look at this in future theme’s updates and see if there is an issue.
If doesn’t work please try to update via FTP, just follow the steps from our guide and make a backup of your current theme installation. After you update the theme you have also to update the plugins that come with the theme files from the /plugins folder – https://forum.tagdiv.com/update-the-visual-composer-plugin-wpbakery/
Thanks!
You can install , theme, ftp me?
