I’ve never had a problem in the past getting my sites approved for Adsense however with this theme I am.
Here is the Adsense message:
Valuable inventory: Under construction
As stated in our Program policies, we may not show Google ads on pages or apps where content is unnecessarily difficult or frustrating to navigate or interact with. This includes pages or apps that are under construction, not functioning, or lead to error messages.
So I checked my site anfinson.ca with the new Google Search Console URL inspection tool. It tells me my page is not mobile friendly, clickable elements are too close together and content is wider than the screen. When I look at the errors, I can see why. Some of the theme CSS files are not being loaded. My robots.txt is set to allow the crawler to read everything except my admin login page.
I’m also getting a soft 404 error on this page. http://anfinson.ca/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/
I just updated the theme to 9.5 and am running the latest version of WordPress.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks!

@Simion I already corrected the faulty entry in my robots.txt and updated it as well. Heck, my mobile pages are also “friendly” according to Google’s own page friendly tests. But, Google is still showing that nagging error in at least 5 pages (not all luckily).
Maybe Google bot is having a rough day. Or, do I have to wait for a day or two, maybe?
Any resources that are blocked are mentioned in the test

@Simion I had to make some changes to my robots.txt file due to the server 5xx-error. But, now I have undone those changes because they were blocking resources. Now, my question is: does the mobile theme plugin lead to “content wider than screen” & “clickable elements are together” problems in Search Console?
Although, I have now switched to the default version of the site but the page loading times on mobile have increased.
P.S: The mobile theme plugin did improve the page speed but does it render the site mobile friendly as well? What would you reckon?

Hi there,
I am currently using Newspaper theme on my WordPress site, but I’ve noticed that its mobile page loading time is very slow. Especially when I run a page speed test on GTmetrix and Google Page Speed Insights, the results are atrocious so to speak.
As a workaround, I installed the mobile version (add-on plugin) of Newspaper and it did improve page load speeds on mobile. However, after a few days I started receiving errors in Google Search console such as: “Clickable elements are too close” and “content is wider than screen”. So, I have now uninstalled the plugin and my page loading time is back to square one.
Apparently Google considers that Newspaper add-on plugin unfriendly for mobile pages and starts flashing messages such as “content is wider than screen”, etc. How can I solve these issues, reduce mobile page load times and get rid of those nagging errors in my Search Console?
Any help would be much appreciated. x
Hi,
From what I can see there are quite a few ad related errors and some others, in the mobile friendly test tool
– http://prntscr.com/m9xxzp
In the website the same errors appear – http://prntscr.com/m9xyn1
Resources that take long to load or provide 404 errors eventually, can potentially slow down the website loading speed and this will lead to problems on mobile (being detected as not mobile friendly by Google). A similar topic here
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/i-have-two-problems-in-mobile-friendly-test/
Maybe investigate the resources blocked by the robots file as the test mentions, and the errors concerning the ads as a first step.
Thanks
Hi,
Please understand that the main functionality of the AMP plugin is to display the posts very quickly on Google’s eye. Basically, when a client in on AMP version, he is not on your website (that’s why your visits were falling down more and more ) and the main goal is to redirect it to your own website. The AMP will have to be viewed as a preview of the posts pages of your website which are delivered by the Google AMP Cache. This is a proxy-based content delivery network for delivering all valid AMP documents. It fetches AMP HTML pages, caches them, and improves page performance automatically. For more information about this case and to better understand the operating system for this plug-in, please check the following useful manual from here -> https://www.searchenginejournal.com/difference-accelerated-mobile-pages-amp-mobile-friendly-pages/172967/
As a very good example, please check the official page of Seo Yoast and there you will see that they have not implemented the menu bar on AMP pages, as you can see here -> https://www.screencast.com/t/OfzMGTLPQk
Also, please notice that AMP will work only for pages which were made with simple text and not with some page builder elements.
For more references and for a better understanding of AMP functionality please read the plugin documentation!!!
You should press the Leave a comment button from aMP and the user will be automatically redirected to your original website -> https://www.screencast.com/t/sG5xfpdE
Thanks for your understanding!
I found an article where someone asks Googles John Mueller about this specific question.
John Mueller (Google) reply:
“Okay. Now I don’t know, how what the specific page would be and where that might be coming from. What one of the things that sometimes happens is we need to be able to fetch the CSS files for these pages as well so that we can see what they look like. And sometimes we either don’t have enough time to do that for your pages, or your server is a bit slow, and we don’t have enough capacity to get that very quickly. And then the test might fail. So if we can’t get the CSS, then it might look like the page isn’t really mobile-friendly. And usually this is something that settles down over time and maybe you’ll see individual pages that fall into the state. But in general, that’s something I wouldn’t really worry about. If the page is really mobile-friendly, if for the most part other pages on your website are seen as mobile-friendly, then that would generally be fine. It might fluctuate a little bit. You might see that as a warning in Search Console but I wouldn’t worry too much about it if you’re really sure that everything else is lined up properly.”
So hopefully I will not have to abandon this theme. 🙂
I have looked at previous posts on the same subject and tried my best to follow the directions that were given to correct the issue, but when I try and activate the plugin an error message pops up saying “PLUGINS DISABLED AUTOMATICALLY The following plugins were disabled because they are incompatible with this version of Newspaper.”
I have double-checked the version of Newspaper and am running version 9.1. I have deactivated, deleted, and reinstalled the most recent version of the plugin from the tagDiv website with the same error occurring. I am at a loss for what to do, and would really like to create a mobile-friendly interface for users.
@Joe Jerde From what I can find, the performance on mobile may influence Google search results by the algorithms they introduced a while ago
– https://moz.com/blog/mobile-first-indexing-seo
– http://theconversation.com/google-wants-more-mobile-friendly-websites-in-its-mobile-searches-40457
– https://www.searchenginejournal.com/flawed-google-mobile-usability-test-results/127623/
If you don’t like the mobile theme plugin, then the default responsive version of the website will be loaded on mobile devices, meaning the exact same content.
You could activate the AMP plugin, AMP posts will have priority in Google search results
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/tagdiv-amp-plugin-tutorial/
I’m having the same issue as well. 7 pages have been found with the error. And you are right, sometimes the test will bring back normal results and sometimes not. My robots.txt file is fine.
The question is, does Google penalize our sites because the errors are happening in the first place?
And I tried the mobile theme but do not like it. It feels unfinished. My site is already pretty simple so not worried about loading time.
Any solution to the mobile friendly errors?
Hi,
For pages, we used to have to fill a block called “Mobile editor”.
In the Gutenberg version, I cannot find this block.
Do we still need to fill it to make sure the page is mobile friendly? Where?
Thanks
hello, I just bought this theme. It is amazing and easy to use, but I have been facing some real issues, which made me really unsatisfied and disappointed.
1. When I was uploading the default theme demo, it kept saying error connecting with server; however the demo was downloaded but in a weird way, as if it is broken.
A. The wide of the page is small then the demo
B. The Menu was totally broken, especially in mobile version!

thankfully, after spending 8H trying to fix this weird issue, I figure out the solution, which is this adding this custom CSS code.
#td-mobile-nav {
position:fixed;
}
The problem is why the hell, does this mobile-nav appears in desktop version? and it’s broken in mobile version.
Please I need the theme to be wider as the demo, and the menu work without this additional css.
—————————
2. Facebook counter is not working ! it is showing 0 followers!
Please fix this issue, I even uninstall and reinstall social counter from theme panel but facebook still not working.
—————————
3. The theme is far from being mobile friendly !!!! too many render blocking CSS and JS , I used TD booster but it said conflects with WP security plugin! and it is out of questions to delete this important plugin; so I used autoptimize plugin! he successfully combine CSS, but no JS are combined !!!!
Test in google test speed page, show 20% for mobile and 80% in desktop !!! huge difference !!
—————————
4. The menu in mobile is not working correctly until the whole page load !
5. when I activate TOP BAR, the mobile menu doesn’t work at all.
6. Lazy load is not working at all in mobile ! ( google test speed page ) show warning about lazy load in mobile.
—————————
I am tired, it is 02:14 A.M , I spend the past 11 Hours trying to figure out solutions! but I failed!
I need TAGDIV support !
Please help me, ^^
ps: my website is in Arabic, but that is not the reason for those issues anyway.
Hi,
If the website resources are loading slow sometimes, or are blocked for some reason (by a robots file for example), there will be warnings or the page in question will be declared not mobile friendly
– https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/6352293?utm_source=search_console&utm_campaign=sc-mft-test
That may happen when testing with the mobile friendly tool, when the stylesheet loads slower, Google sees the page with the CSS not loaded. So most of the links will be detected as too close together, which does not happen if you check with an actual mobile phone.
Usually repeating the test the results will be different, for example when I test your website (@Aboda Magdy) the page is mobile friendly
– https://www.screencast.com/t/RfufPRQne3r
So the results from this tool would be somewhat inconclusive at times.
Having the mobile theme plugin active is a plus, this plugin was designed specifically for mobile so it is mobile friendly

Thanks

I checked the gallery in the post you mention, for me it does not work on desktop as well, clicking on the navigation arrows or thumbnail images at the bottom doesn’t do anything. It should work same as here
– https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/td-post-aston-villa-beat-liverpool-to-join-arsenal-in-the-fa-cup-final/
Could be a plugin conflict, a plugin could be breaking the gallery functionality. Does the same happen if you test with a gallery in a new post? If it does try to deactivate all non-theme plugins as a quick test, check if that solves the problem.
when i trying to index some url to google then getting this error.

Hi, today I have been updated theme to latest version. After checking I found that google think my site isn’t mobile friendly.
I do not installed any new plugins. Of course I didn’t do any changes inside theme.
In fact site totally mobile friendly, but google think’s not.
Could you help me resolve it?
https://search.google.com/test/mobile-friendly?hl=ru&id=7tO9ytA94vICDYh7q8lx6w
Domain: https://ratatum.com
Testing the same post still says it’s not mobile friendly. In the details screen it says “Other error” which is not very helpful to identify why this happens.
Seems like the theme resources are not loading on time and the menu links are detected as too close together.
Maybe you could make a quick test and deactivate all your plugins, leave only theme plugins active. Test with the tool and check if this has any effect.
Or maybe install and activate the dedicated mobile theme plugin, which should solve the problem.
